    It's not really a western but only because it's not set in the west. Some people shit on Jude law and nicole kidmans chemistry but after reading the book in all makes sense also big points for humanizing antebellum southerners and show they were real people too

        Finally gave it a watch after hearing so much about it. Not gonna lie. The only good part was Gene Hackman who is always fantastic. Other than him the movie was a boring slog and for me, Eastwood has the acting ability of a plank of wood.

        Spagetti westerns are not a american genre
        Western is a specific, canonicaly determined genre
        Like theres literaly a canon that determines what is a western, theres a set of matrices it has to comply to
        Spagetti western is a derivation of it but a genre all of its own, its recognisable as such, the tropes, the music, the ambient, the character types, you could make a spagetti western in 1590/1990s balkans it would still be a spagetti western if the atmosphere and camera and so on is right
        Anything else, like any movie 'set in the wild west' with actors dressed in 19th century clothes etc...is just a 'historical action movie' or a 'historical period movie' set in north america, not actualy a western

        Listen to the book on audible because the first quarter is long , the whole book is fricking long but the first chunk is kinda boring to set you up.for the story to.come it truly is an American epic one of the best things I ever read/listened to
        Then watch the series. Should be required to graduate to prover your not an NPC
        Gus rant about banks is the heaviest of redpills about life and the establishment of the west/America.

    One of my favorite westerns was always Quigley Down Under.
    As a kid I was too impatient, but now I can also appreciate Once Upon a Time in the West, The Good,The Bad and The Ugly and other spaghetti westerns.
