We have as keep sake in my family journals, letters pictures and physical artifacts of my family's past. The old west is romanticized yes. it was closer to dead wood for the layman's sake for comparison. No amount of professor liebowitzes re- imagining. Can undo what came before or how many lay below.
Amd I say that because most english bobs that wanna challenge this Go outside tomorrow afternoon on independence day and take a long walk thru a local cemetery and pay attention to the older looking tombstones. The world existed a long time by our measure before people motivated too tried and failed to erase it
>abandoned it
Black person the west got settled which was the whole point, there was only so long it could remain unsettled for.
Nobody tell this dude that the Wild West was a creation of Hollywood and was never truly like it's depicted in fricking John Wayne films
Sick of this redditor talking point. The west was as real as it got and only Gucci loafer wearing city slickers will deny it.
My ancestor were practicing polygamy in the badlands of the great basin while yours were jerking it to dime novels in some hovel.
>Abandoned
When people went west, the goal was never to move out to the desert and live in poverty, tilling the land for 20 years until you get attacked by Apaches. They went there to settle the land and when enough people did the job was done, there wasn't a culture to abandon when the whole thing was inherently transitory
>The wild bunch when I'm in the mood for ultra violence. >Hostiles for realism >McClintock or little house on the prairie
When I need a laugh >The rifleman for Chuck Connor cornball antics.. also you can't tell me bruce Campbell dose binge the rifleman >and Cold Mountain for when I wanna feel.
It's not really a western but only because it's not set in the west. Some people shit on Jude law and nicole kidmans chemistry but after reading the book in all makes sense also big points for humanizing antebellum southerners and show they were real people too
Finally gave it a watch after hearing so much about it. Not gonna lie. The only good part was Gene Hackman who is always fantastic. Other than him the movie was a boring slog and for me, Eastwood has the acting ability of a plank of wood.
How could i forget Deadman,
I gotta jump back in. >Jeremiah Johnson because it's comfy till the gloves come off > No country for old men. Face it doods it's a western > a fistful of dynamite for obscure Leon ki o
Anon I almost threw that in there behind ncfom just for another examples sake. And isn't it kind of a reboot of a 60s legit western?
Let's not get carried away and say Fargo though it does fit the bill in some ways

If you're in the mood for a modern western check out Lone Star
And it's great.
There is nothing more entertaining than a foreign exaggeration of tropes in such circumstances.
I'm kinda amazed America or other countries haven't done more rip offs of Mad Max and exaggerating Australian post-apocalyptic tropes. It could be done the same way.
Spagetti westerns are not a american genre
Western is a specific, canonicaly determined genre
Like theres literaly a canon that determines what is a western, theres a set of matrices it has to comply to
Spagetti western is a derivation of it but a genre all of its own, its recognisable as such, the tropes, the music, the ambient, the character types, you could make a spagetti western in 1590/1990s balkans it would still be a spagetti western if the atmosphere and camera and so on is right
Anything else, like any movie 'set in the wild west' with actors dressed in 19th century clothes etc...is just a 'historical action movie' or a 'historical period movie' set in north america, not actualy a western
Theres a croat a bosnian and a serb
None of them is good but the croat is good looking
The serb is a chetnik, bad to the bone
They both agree the bosnian is ugly, just for laughs
Lonesome dove is the end all be all last word in westerns and it's totally overlooked
Listen to the book on audible because the first quarter is long , the whole book is fricking long but the first chunk is kinda boring to set you up.for the story to.come it truly is an American epic one of the best things I ever read/listened to
Then watch the series. Should be required to graduate to prover your not an NPC
Gus rant about banks is the heaviest of redpills about life and the establishment of the west/America.
Lonesome dove got into the big question about form civilization

Nice, i got it already so gonna check it out soon.
Enjoy
One of the funniest parts is Jake spoon is talking with a prostitute that runs a brothel he's shacked up with who confineds in him she's wants to be kidnapped and fricked by Indians. He's like >YOU WHAT! SpongeBobfish.jpg
And she like "ohh that's nothing I've been with a Black person too. the town folk found out and they hanged him and ran me out"
Do yourself a favor and never watch this but the similarities between it and The Revenant storywise make me think that movie ripped off this one and made it better.
For real horror, Bone Tomahawk and Burrowers. Not exactly horror, but the best western monster movie is White Buffalo. And I heard there's a movie about Joe Don Baker and a pterodactyl but I haven't seen it yet.
The Dollars trilogy is the best but both Once Upon a Time are good as well even if OUATIA got sabotaged by the producers. He started with a movie about the Colossus of Rhodes that I don't remember very well.
One of my favorite westerns was always Quigley Down Under.
As a kid I was too impatient, but now I can also appreciate Once Upon a Time in the West, The Good,The Bad and The Ugly and other spaghetti westerns.
And as a kid of course Winnetou.
America had a true culture in the West but it abandoned it.
not sure what you mean by abandoned
Divorced themselves from it to chase what is fashionable.
Nobody tell this dude that the Wild West was a creation of Hollywood and was never truly like it's depicted in fricking John Wayne films
>America as you know it…is all fake!
Quit being a goddamn israelite parrot please
>popular idea of the wild west is an invention by Hollywood israelites
>pointing this out is israeli
cowboys.... le never happened
These were the real cowboys

They look to be Buffalo Soldiers, some of 'Black' Jack Pershing's men.
Those are just some bucks that got broken in
It was better than the John Wayne films
>Hollywood invented this genre of story that was most common in late 19th century and early 20th century pulp literature
>abandoned it

keep seething over my gucci loafers
city slickers stay winning
City slickers are ultra POZZED Black person worshipping water brained cucks to the highest degree

She Wore a Yellow Ribbon
Is this even up for debate?
Gunfight at the O.K. Corral is better.
Tombstone hating contrarians incoming
Tombstone is just the best. Nothing compares for me but Maverick is very good too.
>Maverick
Peak Mel
Butcher's Crossing was a fantastic novel. What ever happened to movie with Nick Cage?
>The wild bunch when I'm in the mood for ultra violence.

unforgiven?
Fantastic. "English bob are you talking about the queen? On independence day?"
Finally gave it a watch after hearing so much about it. Not gonna lie. The only good part was Gene Hackman who is always fantastic. Other than him the movie was a boring slog and for me, Eastwood has the acting ability of a plank of wood.
3:10 to Yuma remake is fricking fantastic
Seconding.
Really? I haven't seen it since my family rented the DVD but I remember not liking it.
>Christian bale
>Russell crowe

Three zeros in one movie.
You're quite the salesman anon.
That one and Tombstone bc of Kilmer

Anything by Sergio Leone.
John Wayne stuff is great as well. Specifically Rio Bravo, The Searchers, and Liberty Valance.
Unforgiven
Dead Man
The Outlaw Josey Wales
How could i forget Deadman,
I gotta jump back in.
>Jeremiah Johnson because it's comfy till the gloves come off
> No country for old men. Face it doods it's a western
> a fistful of dynamite for obscure Leon ki o
>NCFOM
better add hell or high water if we're doing modern westerns
Anon I almost threw that in there behind ncfom just for another examples sake. And isn't it kind of a reboot of a 60s legit western?
Let's not get carried away and say Fargo though it does fit the bill in some ways
If you're in the mood for a modern western check out Lone Star
this looks fricking insane I haven't clicked download that fast in a while
For me it's McCabe and Mrs Miller
For me it's Tombstone
>bridges
>brolin
>meetttt damonnnn
>coen brothers
The girl is ridiculously annoying but at least they keep beating her up
mmmmh
>glen campbell
Literally one of those “the studio wants to do a little business with this record label” castings
This was awful. Poor direction, terrible acting, all around garbage.
Wrong on every account
>Steinfeld’s SHIT performance
>Matt Damon playing Matt Damon playing a cowboy
>Bridges phoning it in
>bridges phoning it in
What movie did you watch?
You only hate on Steinfelds performance because her character is an annoying little brat. But that's the point. Which you obviously missed.
Terrible remake. Has none of the charm of the original, and the girl is just boring.
Out of the recent ones I really like Sisters Brothers and Hostiles.
Arizona
Yellow Sky
Will Penny
this movie is good but very dark. kinski commands every scene
Not really a western, but I'm enjoying Yellowstone
>kinski
I refuse to watch anything with that bipolar kiddy fricker
i refuse to post on the same board with a fricking facebook homosexual, go back
>Lead actor wants to be in movie but doesn't want to have to learn any lines for it
>'I know! Let's make him mute!'
Love this movie honestly.
Tombstone is overrated by fujos who cream their sweatpants over based Val Kilmer
>fujoshits overhyping Tombstone
I have never heard that take in my life.
Out of left field.... firefly and serenity. its cowboys... in Spaaaace
>Joss Whedon
Frick off
Were ironically made by Italians.
cultural appropriation
And it's great.
There is nothing more entertaining than a foreign exaggeration of tropes in such circumstances.
I'm kinda amazed America or other countries haven't done more rip offs of Mad Max and exaggerating Australian post-apocalyptic tropes. It could be done the same way.
Why did Italians make the best movies in the most American of genres? Was it revenge for appropriating pizza?

Imagine the good the bad and the ugly 90’s balkan wars. Who is who?
Theres a croat a bosnian and a serb
None of them is good but the croat is good looking
The serb is a chetnik, bad to the bone
They both agree the bosnian is ugly, just for laughs
Anything that involves cattle ranching?
The Cowboys with John Wayne
Open Range and Appaloosa don't get enough credit.
Both are very good
artsy answer is the assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford. then cleanse your pallet with american outlaws, the exact opposite movie
Poetry don't work on prostitutes.
"I will knock on your door and I will be mad as a hornet.. I will be hot"
Dewieners Paterson
Loved this movie as a kid, but holy shit it does not hold up at all.
I'm assuming you mean movies about cowboys and not any western film. So...
>HUD
>Lonesome Dove
>Red River
>posts films that are actually about Cowboys
Based king I kneel
>Lonesome Dove
should i read it first?
Lonesome dove is the end all be all last word in westerns and it's totally overlooked

Whichever. Both the book and the miniseries are good. Can't go wrong
Nice, i got it already so gonna check it out soon.

Shanghai Noon
Back to the Future Part 3
Ballad of Buster Scruggs
brokeback mountain
high plains drifter. Clint straight rapes a b***h. also pale rider
Recommend some western horror movies.
Saw this, it was fairly spooky
For real horror, Bone Tomahawk and Burrowers. Not exactly horror, but the best western monster movie is White Buffalo. And I heard there's a movie about Joe Don Baker and a pterodactyl but I haven't seen it yet.
I watched Unforgiven (1992) yesterday and thought it was a perfect movie.
>best cowboy kino?
The Searchers, and you know it.
el topo
tombstone
TGTBaTU
Treasure of the Sierra Madre
The magnificent Seven
simple as
I've seen the dollar trilogy. What other leone movies are good?
Once Upon A Time In The West
He only made seven of them it's not a lot of effort to watch all of them.
So are they all good? What are the best?
The Dollars trilogy is the best but both Once Upon a Time are good as well even if OUATIA got sabotaged by the producers. He started with a movie about the Colossus of Rhodes that I don't remember very well.

What I heard of Rust so far is amazing. I hope they don't ruin it in post-production.
Comfy cowboy kino comming in with 10/10 soundtrack
Forgot pic
is there a cowboy movie where they slaughter a lot of indians and/or orcs?
Stagecoach
Red River was one of the best movies ive ever seen and no ones seems to talk about it
>not one mention of Silverado
This board is dead
Ford
Mann
Boetticher
Walsh
Open Range
not a movie but if you like Westerns, Blueberry by Jean Giraud is the greatest western never put to film.
It was put to film, it just sucked and flopped
Only good part were the trippy ayahusca sequences
that's moebius, right?
Nevada Smith
Tom Horn- it's slow paced, but based on the true story of the last years of his life. Also, it's Steve McQueen's last movie.
For me, it's the searchers
Howdy
My Top 5:
The Outlaw Josey Wales
My Darling Clementine
Yellow Sky
Johnny Guitar
Shane
Bone tomahawk is tight as frick
Unironically, Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2 are the peak of the genre. A true masterpiece.
Best one if you're into trippy cult westerns
