It was mid af just keeping it real. Also the good guys lost in the end
If this doesn’t win best visual effects at the Oscars it will be the biggest travesty since Truman Show getting snubbed
The visual effects aren't even special. The movie is rendered blurry most of the time to mask the low fidelity.
it's not masking anything, it was shot on a high end consumer camera
Which is crazy since the movie looks great. It even has that cozy film grain.
The movie is blurry as shit regardless of what it was shot on, and it's full of fake grain to make the effects even harder to focus on.
It will probably win. Either this or Minus One. Which I'd love to win but it's more of an underdog and it was more story and character driven than effects driven. But either of those should win because they were made on a smaller budget so them winning would be such a statement such a middle finger.
>The Creator
+overall better effects (and bigger budget)
+American
+more critics probably saw it
-so so reviews
>Godzilla Minus One
+tiny budget and looks great
+stellar reviews (it's not meaningless even with purely technical categories)
+being foreign may actually help its chances
-but it could also mean it's more overlooked by the critics
-it's not a type of movie that typically wins awards (while The Creator is more of a pure high sci fi that's consistently the critical darling)
Laziest bait thread of 2023.
The editing ruins the visuals though. They don't hold on a shot for longer than a nanosecond in the entire movie. Just a waste of a decent production budget.
Will Gemma Chan win best supporting actress this year?
She should support my role if you get my drift.
much better + features prime virginia madsen booba
>didnt hear a fricking thing about this until it got absolutely shilled at the very last minute
>never heard about it again
Idk seemed boring
6/10 at best, and not even the best sci-fi film this year - presenting picrel.
Ending felt a little needlessly forced, with killing off both dad and the revived mom.
>revived his dead fiance just to kill her a few minutes later
why? that last "10 minutes" (as if) was horrible.
I think the movie would've been drastically improved with another hour or two, not kidding.
>Best film of 2023
was this year really that bad
Yes. I want to push back on OP's statement, but I can't really. And I haven't seen Snyder's latest self-indulgent homage to copyright infringement, some people seem to love it.
It’s crazy how many people discounted this film just because America was the bad guy. The message behind the movie is universal and the parallels with the Vietnam War makes it quite realistic. It’s not really supposed to be a political commentary, just something that grounds it in reality. The rest of the plot is beautifully paced and the action is absolutely beautiful to watch. What a beautiful movie.
GM sir!!! Very original movie!! Please buy ticket and watch at movies help support qualityoriginalunique scifi!!! IMAX is must see !!
I don't see a single Indian in the comments but I guess your ass wasn't going to be honest.
I saw it on opening night in my capitol city!
>America was the bad guy
apparently the snowflakes saw it this was but I didnt at all. The entire world banned AI. Its just the US was militarily on the frontlines because that literally is how it always has been
Yeah I know. The movie has a universal message about accepting AI and ending war. Some people just instantly shut down the moment any element of America is not put in an idealistic and morally “good” light. As if the American war machine isn’t the most expensive in the world and most vast.
Bot post
>beautifully paced
holy frick, no. The opening scene is rushed AF. The mission is rushed AF. This movie could have been great as multiple films. And I think Gareth could have handled it. As it was, it was a rushed mess.
There's no way this setting deserves multiple films.
No one "discounted this film just because America was the bad guy", people just wont watch it because no one wants to watch black people
this.
This. The black guy on the poster is why I didn’t watch it
It felt like Israel isctge bad guy. Noyice how the tebels are hiding in tunnels. The bad guys nuke villages indiscriminately and use giant tanks that crush homes. And basically their power is just neverebding bombings.
The renels are a religious cult they even have a golden dome.
I didn't want to watch a nog.
>It’s not really supposed to be a political commentary
one of the explosive robots literally said "america first" before it took off on its kamikaze mission
The story was anti-human dogshit
This movie had some of the best eco-futurism architecture I’ve ever seen.
Let down again by weak writing and an utterly nonsensical third act.
How low IQ do you have to be to think “destroy Nomad” is a nonsensical plot point?
agreed, the movie sucked. cool visuals and wanted to like it, but just fell so short. They had robot suicide bombers???!??! Why not just use a rocket?? shit was so stupid.
>uses realism in entertainment as a benchmark on what is good and what isnt
your type is just annoying.
I was under the impression sci fi was supposed to explore new and novel ideas. like i said, visuals were cool, but the movie was creatively bankrupt. i'm sorry i didn't like your move, but no reason to be so butthurt
lol I dont care what you think of the movie, ive just heard your moronic point of view in anything entertainment like movies or videogames. Its moronic as frick
amazing counter. you must be a big fan of zack snyder
Elysium+AI: Artificial Intelligence+BR 2079 aka kino of the highest order
I loved it, but it's definitely not the best.
John David Washington is a really good actor. He’s really good at being realistic and down to earth but he’s also really good at turning up the drama. Those scenes where he was crying were really convincing. If he keeps taking roles like this he might end up becoming the next big kino magnet.
The end was his best acting. I've seen him do it, but the opening scenes, he's completely unbelievable.
I skipped this because he is usually a shit actor, but he definitely put on his best performance of his career in this movie.
7/10 for me, one of the more enjoyable sci-fi movies I've seen in a while and a shit ton better than that pile of shit Tenet.
sick ass explosions, that last one with Nomad got me fricked up
Is it actually an okay movie or not? Just tell it to me straight. I can't tell if you guys are being ironic or not with the praise.
do you like visuals? then you'll probably like this movie. Do you need your movie to have a compelling story and make sense? then you probably won't like this movie.
Wow grey shit such good visuals. Fricking moron pleb.
Of course some butthole replied to you first to give you a shitty take, because chuds scour this site just to poison your mind for the culture war.
The movie is beautiful in story and in visuals. It is unique and has a cool message about AI and war. If you like high concept stuff this movie is for you.
>unique
Fricking zoomer.
Woah dude you’ve seen the animatrix? Woah man you must be like the only one that’s seen it woahhhh. Frick outta here sub 30 year old.
The point is, The Creator is not a unique story, and claiming otherwise is tantamount to JLaw saying she was the first action heroine.
It is a very unique story. Seethe moron.
No it isn't. The Animatrix is one such example of this story being told before.
What is unique about it?
based on the first phrase of your post I will disregard the second phrase.
It's fine. It's like a Blomkamp movie minus the good industrial design. It'll be forgotten instantly like Chappie was.
me rikey repeating digitu
its absolutely worth watching you b***h
Visually superb. And there are some standout performances. But you definitely feel the length.
yeah, it's cool, the story is a bit too elysumized for my taste but the SEA and LA ciberpunk setting it's amazing
Yes, but turn off the brain and enjoy the visuals. The world building and the plot make no sense at all.
You’ve already replied multiple times to that post to give your moronic ass take about the plot being bad. Stop coping.
kek stay mad. You shills deserve the rope for recommending me this shit.
I’m not mad I’m winning
>The world building and the plot make no sense at all.
they're flawless, frick off
All the characters are brown/nogs.
Just watch it, it's free, or just browse Cinemaphile for another 2 hours instead of forming your own opinion. 6/10 story for me with 9/10 visuals. acting was good too. I like to draw robots though. ymmv
movie looked good but it was a glorified blomkamp shallow as frick story. The ending was so fricking moronic
>stupid kid, we have 5 minutes, lets go
>but wait, the kid has to take that memory of her mom and put it in the random robot that looks exactly like her mom
>nothing happens but man sacrifices himself so he could randomly walk up on the newly revived robot mom and die together
lol wut?
>BMAF
not watching it
This. I refuse to watch modern israelite Black person content.
So this big important space ship that if it were destroyed would turn the tide of the war, was able to be boarded effortlessly, able to have its power turned off easily, and able to blown up like nothing? Trash
Yes because they had a messiah robot kid who had wifi control of all tech. Did you even watch the movie?
Right and the military was fully aware of that fact and they would've taken precautions not to let a fricking civilian aircraft into their base
The military was aware of the planes heading for manhattan and the pentagon on 9/11 as well. What happened there?
So you're daying the government wanted NOMAD to get blown up so they could have an excuse to attack the AI?
I’m saying the government was hubristic and made a mistake
those warbles whenever Nomad targeted things with its big blue laser were kino af
seriously. I saw it in imax and it was just pure Exstacy. Looked so good
I actually regret not seeing this in theatre. The sound design was top notch.
Kino
?feature=shared
This is some plebbit tier slop
Cry me a river
Only if you promise to drown in it after
Yeah sure dude I promise, now cry harder
Don't forget the cement blocks tied around your legs
This thing looked cool but was a bit of a dumb idea. Something that has to shoot straight down is just inherently weaker than what we have to today, and there's one scene it shoots down but then the missile goes off to hit a target laterally, so why does it even need a giant downward crosshair to begin with?
So it can terrify while it annihilates
A truly godly combination of traits. Excellent weapon design in my opinion. I especially like the sound effect.
The way the AIs would look up in terror at it. Thing reminded me of a superweapon in RTS games
The crosshair is for picking up immediate targets in its line of sight. It can also take target coordinates like the AI bases which were hidden.
Pssst, anon.
Make a 9th gate thread
My ISP is range banned from thread making.
Thanks...
Honestly the setting is one of the best parts of the movie. The low tech shanty towns and south East Asian jungles mixed with the towering Syd Mead-sequel buildings was really cool.
the art direction is great. I have been watching Gareths movies since he made "Monsters" basically in his bedroom back in 2010. Glad to see him get a movie he controls again. Really too bad nobody gave a shit
>Black folk
haha
no.
o lawd he comin
>Command confirmed. Goodbye ma’am it was a pleasure serving you
;_;
loved that groan/growl it did when it jumped past some of the guys to get deeper into their defenses
how is this superior to a rocket? or even grenade? having a robot run at you going 20 mph
Because its hilarious and somewhat frightening
The dumbest part of this scene is seeing the giant fricking battleship flank a group of the AI and them being surprised as it comes around one of the houses as if it wasn't obvious to spot beforehand
They were getting smoked out, they couldn’t see shit
im just happy seeing less white people on screen
I dunno, to me casting of this movie seemed kino. The American characters were cool as well, it just took place mostly in south east Asia so it was mostly full of them, and none of them were presented as “le all knowing foreigner” or anything like that. All the dynamics felt natural.
As a fan of this music video I personally really liked the cast and the vibes:
?feature=shared
it was. my post was sincere
Meh, it gave us a decent look at 2069 in an alternate future where we had a semi singularity in '72.
I don't watch movies with that that racial profile.
>move starts off with women doing irrational things and getting nuked
I can't even imagine the level of moronism that would be required to think this was a quality film. It makes marvelslop look like Kubrick by comparison.
>WHY ARE YOU HERE YOURE GOING TO BLOW MY COVER OH NO SHES RIGHT BEHIND ME ISNT SHE
There's no way anyone with an IQ above 100 read this script and thought it was acceptable
His mission had already gone screwy by that point. He had to act fast.
You think that's bad? There's an anon in this very thread who is convinced this movie is an utterly unique story.
Imagine coping this hard because you lost an argument. Typical sub 30 year old.
The only thing I have lost is time wasted on someone who doesn't matter. You need invest some time in cinema that was made before 5 years ago.
MISSED MY TURN! HYUCK HYUCK WINK WINK
Such a good premise destroyed by shit casting, stupid writing like the above goofass quips, and huge plot holes.
I bet you also think Tenet is bad because you hate JD Washington and “I ordered my hot sauce an hour ago”
I don't see how Americans were the bad guys in this film. New Asia was clearing weaponizing their AI and over stepping, as usual.
The AIs did nothing wrong. The LA nuke was due to human coding error.
not my problem, they shouldn't be allowed to exist if such errors can occur in them.
There’s a scene in this where a cgi monkey detonates a sticky grenade
>AI cops throw a grenade into the garage
>dog picks it up and drops it into the ditch they're in
>BOOM
>dog stands there barking as the AIs stumble around missing pieces like a fricking cartoon
This movie kept going back in forth between comedic and serious, sometimes doing it right in the middle of serious scenes
That whole scene was kino
?si=GtQZ7RW-VXZT9GsY
Godzilla Minus One was better this year. And definitely not best sci-fi of all time
I might watch it when I'm bored but probably won't give it my full attention
You really feel the length of the movie. It's slog except for a few really great scenes.
I didn’t have an issue. I was invested the whole two hours
same. Youre talking to tik tok brains.
I wasn't. Largely because I have seen that story before, told in a far less hamfisted way.
>Have cool robots in the movie
>The robots have flaws and bad aim and are easily dispatched by other humans throughout the movie
They are made in China after all
Glad somebody else had a problem with this. And why exactly are their AI Buddhist monks? Why is digital consciousness utterly identical to meat consciousness?
>their
*there
>Why is digital consciousness utterly identical to meat consciousness?
That was the point of the movie. Why are we killing them and treating them different when they're pretty much the same as us
I know, but the reason I have a problem with it is because it makes it extremely obvious that the AI are just stand ins for an oppressed "other". There is nothing uniquely "AI" about them. May as well have been the Prawn in D19
>Blade Runner
>Robots
Are you actually moronic?
It’s time to have a nice day
Blade Runner wasn't about androids, anon.
Literally based on a book with Android in the title. You can play semantics all you want, but the words being used aren’t brand names, they are words that encompass the reality of their being
Have it your way. But replicants were distinct beings. As in, distinctly NOT human. A replicant would fail the Voight-Kampff test. Because they weren't human. that made them distinct beings, and thus the question of their essence held more gravity. But that clearly doesn't matter to you, because "robots ayyyyyy"
Yeah totally dude they weren’t humans they were hunans. It totally changed everything now.
It’s like this is your first time watching a movie about robots. Were you also complaining that robots acted too human like in Blade Runner or AI?
>And why exactly are their AI Buddhist monks?
Cribbed from the book The Mountain in the Sea.
The little girl was a good actress and wasn’t annoying at all, which is always surprising when it comes to child actors
i,robot gibbery with Jaden with a hole in his head. What did you expect from local america atm, but the visuals were next level. Anyway, too stoned to remember anything.
it had a decent start but the third act went full moron
it was perfect
I bet it's because you're all incapable of feeling emotions is why you're having such a hard time with this
I agree with OP best film of the frickin year by a mile
nah you are just am easily amused fricking moron likely due to a low IQ. The plot is that they made a weapon that evolves to be able to take more and more control over electronics. If you have the tech to take over electronics why the frick would you out into a robot? You woulnt you just make the weapon or humans to be able to hold and use themselves.
Also electronics are either remote accessible or they arent, a robot cant just start your computer because it wants to unless the electronic was designed to be accessed by a remote signal. Terminator 3 did this same moronic shit. You are too moronic to understand this about electronics which is why you didnt cringe about how moronic it is to think a robot can take control of your toaster by praying really hard
its a movie you joyless sperg not a book report
yes, as I said a stupid movie. It started out half decent then went full moron and only a moron could enjoy its moronic premise
Shows what you know about electronics. You can literally shoot high energy particles at transistors and get a computer to do totally random shit from a distance
>bu bu but what about EMPS!
you are an idiot, stfu
I didn’t say EMP, not that that’s not another example either
ignore him bro it's literally that one guy who's always here ruining threads out of mean spirited spite
merry christmas creatorchads, we won
Thanks bro. Fellow kino appreciators rise up! We on the nice list and we eating good tomorrow!
LFG sci fi kino bros
I rarely come to this board you moronic Black person. I just dont like movies written by tech illiterates acting like le epic hacker can change the traffic signals from his laptop while driving down the street. It makes people with triple digit IQs wince when morons write scripts about certain topics that are not believable in the least that other morons think is le epic hackerman kino. If you are going to write a movie about AI the least you can do is understand the very basics of how electronics work. This is what made the matrix such a successful series and by the token Tom Clancy, Micheal Crichton and John Grisham books/movies, because the writers actually understood the topics they were writing about
>I just dont like movies written by tech illiterates acting like le epic hacker can change the traffic signals from his laptop while driving down the street
I will take this back slightly with ONE exception. I am a big starfate atlantis fan and basically every episode was rodney saving the day by being a le epic hackerman. pure kino though
>makes post talking about how a computer engineer doesnt understand electronics
>shows how fricking moronic he is that he has no idea how electronics work
like pottery. what you describe is exactly how an emp works. I will explain it to lay moron such as yourself. Do you understand fuses and what they are designed for little fellow? An EMP works by sending a signal to string for the little piece of copper in the circuit to handle burning up the wire and chip it is connected too, just like how you blow a fuse. Not all electronics are susceptible to EMPS, It is actually quite simple to guard against in fact by simple using larger gauge wiring and better wire shielding or to stick to the metaohor: use a larger fuse then the emp is capable of blowing
>sending a signal
well it is actually more static electricity in the atmosphere
even if the film set it up as literally magic, it worked and I loved it because I'm handsome and enjoy quality films with soul and heart
that's fine. I never said you coulsdnt enjoy it. You responded to my post my Black person, I didnt attack you for liking it. It just wasnt my cup of tea because for me I could not suspend my disbelief with such a lame plot.plot holes
I wanted to like it ad was willing to shut off my brain as much as possible to enjoy it because scifi is my favorite genre but this anon was right. The writers simply did not understand the topic to write a believable and immersing script. I am willing to let nonsensical mcguffins slide here and there to move the plot along but jfc they may as well made the kid a wizard because they kid was just using magic for all practical purposes. The premise and Universe were nonsensical preventing people who like reality to make sense from being able to become invested in it.
I always love it when morons get pissed and need to give you a rundown of something everyone already knows but is besides the point as if that helps them win the argument
the truth is objective, like all art
it's irrelevant what he thinks about anything because the only correct answer is the film fricking rocks and the details are inconsequential
CreatorC does rock, you’re right
ah yes, you knew it all along, sure sure ya did. you are a troony fricking homo
He specifically addressed the nonsense in your post. Are you an actual moron or just a studio shill shitting in the streets of Mumbai?
there's declassified papers out about how we could infiltrate airgaped computers back in the 70s
not that even matters because the films logic and world are perfectly explained and built up
I cried at the end bros
>super futurist AI world
>the ones with AI are still using motor boats, donkeys, foot travel, and basic ass cars to get around
>the americans have an orbiting deathstar and 3 story big tanks
did you not watch the fricking movie?
Only flying shit I saw were military "planes" and police helicopters shaped like cargo crates
cool
give an example of a film you think is good, a good sci fi even
name one
Oblivion
jfc
of course you enjoyed that, it's middling slop that doesn't challenge the audience at all
Don't ever talk to me or my mother again, homosexual.
he's right
the AI are sentient, they are not humann and thats the point
same as BR, they even use the line more human than human in the opening sequence
The post you are responding
to is mine
I deleted it for that reason.
That vault at the beginning was giving me Elfen Lied/FEAR/Akira vibes.
same, super akira influenced, even with the kid and her growing powers
it hit all the right notes and looked great, loved it
Worst script/plot of the year and that's saying something. Ludicrous story that seems to have been written by a literal moron
>Worst script/plot of the year and that's saying something
how
there was absolutely nothing wrong with it, it was perfect
no one can win with you wierdos
you beg for an original IP and you get the film of the year with incredible sci fi backdrop and because it almost made you cry you freak out and say it sucks
grow up
Asia is still rural
US has a death star that the main character easily enters
Main character dangles on the edge of outer space but manages to come back inside
Dog throws grenade
Plot is explained by "we didn't actually drop the bomb"
Le ebil American soldiers walk around freely inside enemy territory
The only reasaonable complaint there is the
>Plot is explained by "we didn't actually drop the bomb"
No, all of those are objectively amateurish, inept screenwriting.
The one thing that confused me is why they put on those space suits when they went back to the shack Maya got bombed at. I thought maybe it was for the radiation but then they take off their helmets later. Was it just to look more undercover?
agreed
probably the best sci fi from the last 20 years
don;t care too busy posting with my fellow creatorbros
for me? it was ken wantabe being the literal embodiment of kino in this
>gets shot and has a massive hole through his chest
>walks it off
My brother
you being an offputting sperg isnt' a plothole
Best final explosion in all film. Better than the Death Star.
Ah yes, the classic millions of tons of steel crashing into earth yet remaining intact on impact.
this is another plot hole
>if we destroy the ship we win the war!
Why? They built the first one, why cant they build another one? Or even better weapons? This is just stupid
the lenticular cloud was cool.
I liked how the space station ship thing was both in orbit and airborne depending on what looked cooler to the director at any given point.
I also liked how the sneaky special forces squad had support during their night raid by that giant bright target light illimunating the entire area.
>something that can fly can change altitude? Plot hole!
Pic related is me dropping a load on your post
next he'll say that because it wasn't filmed in the literal year 2070, it's a plothole
You mean to tell me that huge, completely nonaerodynamical thing with no apparent forward or lift generating propulsion is actually an aircraft that also happens to be able to leave the atmosphere? Amazing.
Black person on cover = no watchie
>tfw mom and dad are both in Dian Dang now
Did the human-like bots have sex holes? Because if so I don't see a reason to not have them in the west.
frick you guys I cried more than once
goyslop
>ctrl+f "moronic"
>1 of 23 matches
Kek
>Brutally mogged by a movie out barely a month later
lmao
>adult animation
>syfy
This is the true one.
I’m assuming unregistered firearms are ok in this universe?
I feel like blacks/browns don't belong in sci fi, it's a White genre and should stay that way.
I agree.
waddabout yellows? robot geishas?
Movie is shit.
obviously was a flop
Finally, a movie shot on film.
This doesn't even look real. Who would watch something so clearly guaranteed to be atrocious
It's based on a true story that just hasn't happened yet.
>when the squad leader recognizes Denzel jr on the bridge and tells him to take cover, then the nig fricking shoots him
Maybe it's a good movie, but I have unironic Black person Fatigue ™ and I just can't stomach seeing another goddamn black. Or several, I don't know.
They are fricking up so many movies/series/games with this bullshit, its crazy.
It gives this aftertaste of shit to something you would normaly enjoy.
This sounds like poisoning to me.
He's not even a Black person in the movie though. he's just american? no mannerisms, dialect or anything like that.
You blind, dude?
color blind, booyaahh
It would be solid 8/10 sci-fi movie, but them writing out MC as suicidal was moronic idea for cheap tearjerker.
He should have stay alive for a fricking kid and raise her in memory of his wife.
Instead he went out like a pussy ass b***h.
Frick Gareth Hackwards for this specific moment.
To me its picrel sequence. Shit just got real for a few minutes and then went to shit again.
that was pretty great. but dumb how a tiny little sticky grenade disabled one.
Rogue One was the best Star Wars movie imo. Guess I'll give this a chance.
So... uh... why dont robots or robot sympathiser nations have air force?
I swear every time i saw Nomad in the sky i asked out loud "Why not to shoot it down??? Dont you have long range missile? Dont you have jets? Really? Really? You can create perfect androids and cant shoot down that shit? REALLY?".
>fire at big thing in space
>defense destroys it
>guess we won't try that again.
it makes no sense given how fragile the station is and how commercial spaceship was able to fly towards it without getting blown up
if the station had great defense, movie failed to convey it
in fact, it did the opposite
True. Should have shot down the plane with the civilians aboard.
in 10 cases out of 10 real military/government would have done it
Real examples?
what? cases when military/government decides to sacrifice people for state's success?
dont make fool of yourself
Haven’t and will never watch it because of ngers
So why didn't they make the robots better fighters?
The ship on top of this poster looks like the goatse butthole
In a world where robots are very cheap, why would you pick up rice by hand?
>its the guys who aren't using robots having the tech advantage
Did you even watch the fricking movie, the kid robot is a tech God
It's what anon is saying
>Asia is technologically superior
>USA is winning
Excuse me, but that is a Black person.
Worst film of 2023 and one of the worst sci fi films of all time.
ftfy
Black person sneed
