AOL TimeWarner was arguably a worse name.

If I wanted to pay for a streaming service that's going to be 80% black I'd have kept a Netflix subscription.

I'm not totally huge sports watcher guy or very atheltic but when I was a kid for a time I did bowling and even got a fair amount of trophies (not just participation trophies like actual tournament and league stuff) I was decent I guess but I don't remember ever going over 190 points.

Most sports fans are the opposite of people who actually play sports.

Doubtful. Maybe different under TKO, but UFC has a habit of jumping ship to somewhere else when a network is changing/merging/etc.

So what is the price difference now to access all programming vs 15 years ago?

The article is from about 10 yrs ago.
Basically, you get a package and have to pay for premium channels in '00's but during '10's max and hbo went full israelite and started doing this stuff like up than charging for both cable access and internet or you get a milked down basic cable and HBO.

to get everything from a cable package was like $200 a month at the peak, with some places charging obscene amounts for ESPN.

of course I'm not accounting or the cost of internet + streaming, because that's kinda psychotic.

I was about to say streaming let's you watch on-demand instead of having to watch live, but then I remembered even cable boxes had on-demand services

Funny enough I'm in a decent coverage area to get channels just by using a freaking clothes hanger

It depends on what you want to watch and where you live. Outside of the NFL, the networks usually only cover playoff games beyond a single weekly matchup. The rest is typically only on cable or some league specific streaming service.

However, the regional sports cable TV business has kind of imploded over the last few years. A handful of smaller market MLB, NHL and NBA teams are airing the majority of their seasons on the free local channels. I expect that to continue as it's easier for those leagues to sell the rights to someone than try to build out a streaming service of their own (most already have them, but they're usually pretty niche for a couple of reasons).

    > “The launch of this new streaming sports service is a significant moment for Disney and ESPN, a major win for sports fans, and an important step forward for the media business, said Disney CEO Bob Iger, in a statement. “This means the full suite of ESPN channels will be available to consumers alongside the sports programming of other industry leaders as part of a differentiated sports-centric service."

It will be $50 at least, these channels are like 80% of the cost of a cable/satellite bill
