He looks a little to old.
He just needs to drop the ear ring, shave the goatee, and grow some hair, then he will look a little bit like Static but I am certainly afraid that he may be a little too old for the role.
He just needs to style it the length is fine
As a dreadlocks chad, all he needs to do is lock up his hair now, and keep the sides faded. Instant Static.
It's common practice for adults in their early 20s to play 14-18 year olds, Static is 14-16 years old depending on the property, so it's alright.
Black don't crack; He'll pass for 15 for the next 20 years, depending on how thick his neck/shoulders are.
Loved him in Stranger Things, so sure, that sounds good to me.
>Literally any static shock content at all
Yes, absolutely, I'm here for it.
Careful with that monkey's paw anon, at one point they announced a film starring Jaden Smith was being developed
Something isn't always better than nothing
Did ANYONE read the most recent reboot series beyond the first issue?
No, I see people talk about the new Icon run more than The new static.
Guess, the new origin really rubbed people the wrong way.
>do we like him?
Dude you need to get your own personality and opinons
No.
He’s a good actor on Stranger things but I would hurry before he ages out of the role also thank god it’s not Will Smiths shitty kid
The chances of Jaden getting that role went out the window when Will Smith had a public meltdown and b***h slapped Chris Rock.
Still crazy how there was more backlash for that than Ezra Miller's Hawaiian Rampage.
More like blacklash--Am I right, fellas?
Carlos...
Miller's a B lister on a good day. Only DC autists are following Ezra's Hawaiian beat down tour.
Too be fair Smith did it on National TV during an event seen by billions of people while Ezra attacks people either when they are alone with him or when it’s dark out
>Oscars
>Billions
They've been bleeding ratings for years
Will Smith has been famous for decades and publicly attacked someone. Ezra Miller isn’t as famous and they’re just accusations at this point.
>they’re just accusations at this point
spotted the ezrasimp lmao
Tfw Homelander actor went Homelander.
https://theblast.com/189503/the-boys-antony-starr-arrested-beat-up-21-year-old-chef/
After he punched the victim several times, Starr also smashed glass on the man’s face, which resulted in several facial stitches, as the outlet reported.
Good old Ezra makes that seem like nothing
Nah that's way worse than anything Ezra did
Ezra was mostly sleeping on the street and just acting like a manic schizo
>Nah that's way worse than anything Ezra did
The shit with the little girl, where he says the absolute groomiest shit ever to her parents, is wayyy worse.
get it right, it was a little boy
Maybe we're talking about different times, because I read the excerpt from the article, and I distinctly remember it being a 12 year old girl.
Nah dude, it's a 12 year old "non-binary" boy
Oh, Christ. That's even groomier than I thought--I hadn't realize he'd already infected the child with his bullshit, too.
nah, the kid was non-binary before he met Ezra so he was probably molested too
the mother looks like a piece of shit also honestly
"Non-binary" is just a giant, red flag.
Either the person is narcissistic, or severely mentally troubled. Often both.
it's all the rage nowadays for mothers to force the gender bullshit on their kids
celebrities are doing it all the time lately, so it's probably affecting normie mothers too
I find this abusive imo
That offer went out the window when Suicide Squad tanked and he didn’t want to do the sequel.
>He’s a good actor on Stranger things
Really? I'd say he's the worst of them all. With the possible exception of whatever Finn Wolfhard is doing this season.
I'd say it's less his acting abilities and more that his face doesn't look like some sort of sideshow attraction. Finn Wolfhard aged into a salad fingers motherfricker and Gaten Matarazzo was born that way so you knew what you were getting in season 1. Noah Snap looks fairly normal and can act, so he's in the top half of the group with Caleb McLaughlin. of course they're all better than that chud Charlie Heaton
>course they're all better than that chud Charlie Heaton
What's wrong with him
>I'd say he's the worst of them all.
I disagree. I liked Lucas in season 1 because he was the straight man counter to Dustin and rounded out the original quartet of kids. The problem is that as the cast grew other characters filled that role or others and he was left being informed by his dynamic with Max. Hate to say it but I feel like he devolved into the token black kid.
Token black kid doesn’t get the girl though. Do he’s not a token in that respect.
Plus I like how out of the four nerds, in high school he’s the one on his way to popularity.
Have you ever seen Revenge of the Nerds? In those movies, the token black guy is also the token gay one.
>he’s the one on his way to popularity
...Not anymore lol
>a black person
Cinemaphile hates it
Cinemaphile loves static stop talking out of your ass.
Cinemaphile has nostalgia goggles for static because of a show they were too young to fully grasp and don't realize he's a heavily politicized character. They'll freak out once the show comes out and there's politics involved and screamed how they ruined Static
>it's another "anon pretends all of Cinemaphile shares the same opinions as the /misc/ tourists" episode
This one gets re-run too damn often, sheesh.
People would absolutely start whining about Static being room political “now”, completely ignoring how he was wearing a Malcolm X cap in the 90s.
Yes, they would. But Cinemaphile is not a hivemind.
Frick off moron, we like Static because it actually handled those kinds of issues realistically rather than vomiting the creator's specific viewpoints onto the viewer with zero nuance as has become common in recent years. McDuffie was based.
>McDuffie is dead
>Bendis is still alive
I know anon, it's all so tiresome.
Don't worry. Bendis named his wonderful character Naomi after him and she has her own tv show now. Isn't black female character Naomi McDuffie wonderful?!
(Just ignore all those black created characters not owned by Warner Bros and DC.)
Black writers handle political topics better than "woke" white writers any day of the week
Look no further than McDuffie and McGruder
Frick you, I love Static because the show and original comics were great. Also Static was the first black cartoon superhero I remember seeing at the tender age of 5 years old, I didn't watch Justice League and see John Stewart until a few years later, so he was inspiring to me. I even pretended to zap people on the playground.
>he's a heavily politicized character
No he's not you sub-human historical revisionist.
>They'll freak out once the show comes out and there's politics involved and screamed how they ruined Static
Because they WILL ruin him. Why did no one complain before if he was so political? Why does it only become a problem now if everything was always political? Do you actually think your logic helps your arguments, or does it just expose how stupid they are?
>No he's not
Frick off.
No. it's more like you retroactively inserted your values and got mad when your delusions of le all art political got debunked. have a nice day you redditor filth.
>Why did no one complain before if he was so political?
Because reactionary buttholes don’t care about politics when they’re growing up as kids, it only becomes important when they’re adults and now have to cry when their personal politics is suddenly not affirmed by comics anymore. And they always delude themselves into thinking “it wasn’t political in year X”
>Why did no one complain before if he was so political?
Who says they didn't?
Static came out in 1993. The internet wouldn't be popularly used for another 3-4 years and everyone was on dial up. Fandoms and hatedoms didn't exactly have a lot of room to grow like they do now.
Cinemaphile doesn't love static, they love using static as a shield against accusations of racism. But when you actually try and point out facts like yes, the cops were responsible for the big bang in both the 90s comic and the cartoon, people will call you a liar because either they've memory holed the entire franchise, or never consumed it to begin with.
I thought the Big Bang was written as a cluster frick on both sides, as shitty as cops can be there isn’t much more you can do to a literal GANG WAR than shoot tear gas into the area and try to break it up. I like mile stone for the most part but the company flopped for the same two reasons the big two are flopping now, overt preachiness and over long stories that connect to every comic across the line. Difference between then and now though is there was an earnestness to milestone that isn’t present in modern comics
>Difference between then and now though is there was an earnestness to milestone that isn’t present in modern comics
Bullshit. The only difference is that it’s entirely PC for corporations to show people being openly gay, etc. in media today, so now people have to try and come up with all kinds of mental gymnastics and dogwhistles to whine about gays “because it’s not earnest” anymore, as if big media corporations are ever fricking earnest about what they produce. Trying to do stupid purity tests like that is fundamentally inane.
>it's the cops' fault for trying to intervene in a massive intergang brawl, they should just mind their own business
Source? I don't want to get my hopes up
it doesnt matter .,
we know the writing will be shit thanks to the woke and blm agenda ...
Why a show? Why not give him a movie? Static is probably one of the more famous black superheroes these days. Why not leverage that into a film? God knows WB could use a successful superhero movie.
>Why a show? Why not give him a movie?
It is a movie.
It could be decent if it's done well, I'd be cautiously optimistic about this in the same way that I am with the Blue Beetle stuff we've been seeing.
The one thing I'm really afraid of is then ruining a character like Static by leaning too hard into current year teenage bullshit like TikTok as so many other series with teen protagonists do. I'd almost like to see it done as a period piece set in the 90s or early 00s to avoid that and recapture that vibe that the old comics or the cartoon had, but I know that's just wishful thinking.
I can see that The “Modernized” take they did for Milestone Returns absolutely sucked
There was nothing wrong with Static's new origin in Milestone Returns.
Milestone Returns has been mostly great, it managed to salvage Icon. Hardware has been the only weak link.
Is Technique in the series yet?
Yes but she looks like Barraki now and Barraki looks like Tiffany.
I like the other series but Statics has been the weakest series by far… until the one by Thorne comes out as that dumbass can’t write for shit
>it managed to salvage Icon
I never understood the hate for Icon's original characterization.
>Static Shock was teased in the ending of young justice
>They did frickall with him, even after getting renewed for 1 more season.
please HBO, he fills all the diversity quotas, let this be good.
Frick this libtard shit. They're gonna make static all political and shit with like blm and racist white people. Liberals ruin everything.
Liberals created Static in the first place, anon.
moron detected. Richie (Rick Stone) was gay in the original 90s comics, some of them were written by transgender voice actress Maddie Blaustein (Meowth's best voice), they talked about racism, homophobia, white supremacy, and all kinds of liberal AND leftist things in the comics. Static has always been political.
Despite Caleb's age, it's relatively easy to make him appear younger so I think he'd be a perfect fit.
Nice! He has the perfect energy of becoming cool but also being nerdy and awkward. So glad it never ended up being Jaden Smith.
Can Sadie Sink play Frieda?
Or would that be stunt casting?
She should have played Cyclone in the Black Adam movie
God damn it, you're right.
She would’ve been perfect as Maxine
You all know what they're gonna do with his origin story, right? That alone is reason for me to be pessimistic.
Why? It's not overdone like Batman, Spider-Man, or even Superman's origin.
Static's origin is very political. In the original static run and the comic he gets them from experimental tear gas at a gang meet up.
In the the milestone returns run it's a BLM march where the tear gas is unleashed.
As a black guy I hated the direction they took with new one. I hate the police as much as the next guy but the fact they would use experimental gas on teens is a step to far for me. The gang fight at the dock around the chemicals makes more sense.
Who the frick gets into large scale gang fights these days, anon.
It made sense in the 90s but now it.
Keep Static relevant.
>large scale gang fights these days, anon
You do realise gangs still exist right?
>but the fact they would use experimental gas on teens is a step to far for me
The cops were immediately in riot gear, beat up women and journalists and shot tear gas at people when they protested the overturning of Roe last weekend. Cops in 2020 also indiscriminately shot rubber bullets and sprayed pepper spray at random people from moving cars. Cops will do whatever the frick they feel like, and if they've got new toys they will want to use them.
Yeah but no one with a mind would give cops chemicals that can turn protesters into superheros
>but the fact they would use experimental gas on teens is a step to far for me
What I could see happening is them using tear gas against the youth that just so happens to be nearby some experimental chemicals on a truck, and someone (a cop) fires a gun trying to kill someone, causing an explosion that mixes the two.
Yeah this is great casting. Micheal B Jordan is way to old now.
Michael B Jordan is going to be either Val Zod. He’s a producer on Static though.
Who will they cast as Frieda, Daisy, Dusk and Virgil’s older sister?
I hope they cast a red head for Frieda.
Static Shock is very few black heroes I genuinely like so yeah. But that actor need to shave
He does for Stranger Things where he plays a freshman in high school.
You guys do realize that actors shave and get different hairstyles for various roles.
Yeah, it made sense when strange things started nearly 7 years ago. Now they're all looking abit too old for those roles.
It's because they started those characters in the danger zone. If they were a few years older it could all be handwaved like Steve, whose actor is 63. Something like Static is easier to pull off.
is he gonna shave at least?
What actors and actresses should be the other characters?
Frieda
Too obvious.
Them being typecast as a couple is never good
You’re right.
It would be some up and coming late teens actress. Sadie’s too established to just play the girlfriend.
What are things that you think are a must have in the movie.
Personally i don't have much hope for it since there is no one like McDuffie in charge but some fake woke writer
Should this stay purely Milestone or have DC 'stuff' in it like STAR Labs, Monitors, supervillains from other characters, etc
Personally think it should stay Milestone but realistically I think that would confuse people so they will probably make it DC.
Will Cress Williams return for a black lighting meets static story? Every Version of static has a one of those.
wow that's so close to being a unibrow....
WB new owners have mandated that HBOMAX movies don't have a budget more than 35 mil. Not sure if the movie will look good with that budget, let's see if they can get a director that can work with that budget without it looking cheap.
I heard a rumor that the movie will start filming next year and the movie will be out in 2024. If that's true we should be having casting news soon.
Frick hb* and he looks like a discount villain
Just asking a question, is there any particular reason for not using a white actor?
Yeah, they should've just cast Tom Holland in blackface.
Clearly bait, don't bite it
Daisy is comfy for me, as a black guy whose been around nerdy white and black women his whole life, there's just something about a Daisy, you know? Then again, I like israeli redheads so Frieda is up there too.
>Black person mc
No, obviously
Who’s the best love interest for Static?
Daisy? Frieda? Madison? Plus? Rocket? Dusk?
Frieda is the best love interest cause she makes Static grow as a person.
Plus she’s the second hottest next to stuck up Madison.
Daisy, Dusk and Plus were hit in their own way though,
He's not a good actroa and doesn't fit Virgil at all outside of being black.
>a black guy
I’m sick of race swapping
This homie needs to find a way to get his goatee to grow like his eyebrows
is he gay though
Stop making shit up anon
Richie is the gay one you idiot. I hope they have Richie as a masc gay nerd (Rick Stone wasn't really too masculine but he wasn't that feminine either, and Richie from the cartoon was closeted due to standards and practices).
didn't DC make static shock's new origin with him being a gay teen who got his powers during a BLM protest? sounds absurd but I remember the thread when it happened
Rich is gay.
Not Static anon. His love interests are Frieda, Dusk, Daisy, Madison, Rocket and Plus.
They want us to believe in Wakanda and forget Waukesha.
>Live action
Why can't we move on from this cringe trend
What costume should the movie use ?
The original milestone, then at the end he upgrades to the season 3+ black shirt version from the show.
From season 1 of the show. Its simple enough that a teenager can come up with and iconic
I prefer the upgraded version to the original, but I agree.
better him than Will Smith's crazy son
Dude looks thirty and to serious.
