Comics youtube

What other good comic book youtube channels are there, that aren't obsessed with any sort of culture wars but just talk about comics?

Noah Van Sciver and The Comics Cube for more interviews with creators.
Strange Brain Parts and Strip Panel Naked make some nice videos.
This may seem sexist, but I don't watch anything with a woman speaking on comics, or anything with a """nerd""" tuber.

I haven't watched Comic Book Historians except for the Howard Chaykin interview (audio only). Good stuff.

This is the one where he says despite hating Grant Morrison, he really liked All-Star Superman. Some of their other interviews seem to have video, but it's really about the audio anyway.
There's also The Jack Kirby Museum and Research Center.

          Anonymous

Poor Noah is probably getting glossed over by a bunch of people because of that other c**t.
OP here, and when I first read it I was gonna dismiss it, 'cause I read "youtube" and "Van Sciver" and automatically made the wrong assumption.

Also, I am aware of the limitations of the CK guys. Watching/reading other people's reviews/essays doesn't mean you don't have to do your own homework. Once you get to know a reviewer, you learn to take what's of value to you and what you can just ignore. Some people here seem to just want to be told "how it is".

That looks like a quality issue to me and not an issue with comic books. Just look at Matttt's channel. His long form histories on figures in the comic book world get a lotta hits. Single issue reviews need to be better to justify engagement.

Because when the question of whether or not the content is any good comes around, its instant deflection. Sure, you can get easy clicks with politicrap but actual enthusiasm in modern comics is nonexistent. The fact that a youtube search for "Harley Quinn" doesn't bring up her current ongoing is a testament to this....And the lack of marketing by DC is also suspect.

Whatever your opinion, there's 35 issues in the current run. Surely some fangirl is covering it, right? Right?

Strange Brain Parts (even though he frequently doesn't know what he's talking about)

Comic Belief (even though he has shit taste)

ComicSamurai (most of his videos are collector nonsense, but his "hidden gems" recommendation videos are excellent)

PulpSecret was the very first comics channel on youtube all the way back in like 2007 or 2008 or something. They abandoned that channel before long and switched over to a new channel called ComicBookClub which, incredibly, is still going and they post regularly. Now they're like in their 40s and still posting multiple times a week. They must have genuine passion for this shit, because in all this time they have UTTERLY FAILED to cultivate ANY kind of following. Their videos get double-digit views and it doesn't stop them. They actually have interviews with industry pros, yet it does NOTHING to boost their views. Make of that what you will. But I think they're worth mentioning for being the OGs.

Another "how the frick did this last so long" comics channel was Pete's Basement, which was apparently the SECOND youtube comics channel (after the above mentioned guys). It's a dude from New York named Pete who'd review new comics each Wednesday with him and his friends sitting at a round table in his basement. They were usually about a half hour long and all done in one take with a single camera then uploaded the same day. They started around 2008 or 2009 or thereabouts and continued until the shutdown in 2020. That fricked them over HARD. Without new comics coming out they had nothing to discuss and even once new comics started coming out again they never really got back into the old habits. They tried to keep the channel going with various comics content (mostly interviewing writers and artists of ULTRA OBSCURE indie comics), but they never really had a regular release schedule again. Haven't posted since last year, so it looks like the channel's dead unfortunately.

    Also, anyone remember ComicBookGirl19?

These dudes are too focused on art. They are only able to give surface level criticism on storytelling and that is reflected even in their own works. They should probably start taking some writing courses if they want their stuff to succeed. At least they got the art part down.

      Anonymous

Yes, I watch them a lot just because of that. I'm quite well versed on literary "reading" so I don't need any of that.
Besides most other reviews you'd find online, either on video or written are too story driven and basically just make general mentions on whether art is good or not so I appreciate that aspect of their reviews. And I also like their conversational approach, which is much more entertaining than just having the one guy just talking.
