This. James was always cool. It does turn into Soap Opera kino until the last 3 episodes. If you ever got into a show like Coronation Street, you'll probably dig it. Although it does somewhat Flanderise coop. Still when Annie shows up in FWWM, it sorta makes it worth it.

Go back and watch S1. You wont but trust me when I say this. Coop is sorta no nonsense when he shows up. He is efficient, methodical, and comes off as a man with a code who is somewhat particular. In his first interaction with Audrey he's a bit aloof, charming but also distant. By the time you get him in the flannel, he becomes aww geez what a swell fella Coop. Whenever Lynch comes back into the picture, he straightens him out again, but I got the distinct impression Robert Engels and Harley Peyton only understood how to write his most out there eccentric qualities because they're not as nuanced.
I did notice a difference in Coop in the pilot, but I think his personality changes by the first episode. Could be wrong.
It depends. Lynch obviously directed the Tibet stuff with the stone tossing in the woods. At the same time, Coop has no patience for the Log lady stuff. There's a weird sort of thing when it comes to his approach to the mysticism. Either way, he definitely isn't one note, which is a bit how he's played later in Season 2. I also like that Annie stuff and at times it works. The closeups on maple syrup dripping and all that gets me. Some of the gooey stuff comes on a bit strong though.

I always got the impression Bob magnified impulses and behaviours already found in the host. Makes sense with that line about needing absolute purity of conviction regarding the Black Lodge. This doesn't make much sense with the goofball interpretation of Coop who doesn't love nothing more than his heckin coffee. Although, to take Lynchs character, there is room for those evil intentions. To be honest, I'm not entirely sure where I come down on Bob. Leland seems completely normal a lot of the time. FWWM makes it seem like the person is still in there. But then why is real coop in the lodge. Could go round in circles like this. Officially, anything Lynch or Frost is true canon.

It's about Hollywood so in partial it's about israelites. The story is also told half through the subconscious of Naomi Watts' character. Since she doesn't understand "it's the israelites" her subconscious fills in the blanks with movie trope characters, like the Cowboy who presents as a stereotype of a Western movie character.

I’ve always had a problem with how the return ends. It basically is just another abrupt bad end just like he did for the end of the first run so it feels like a retread. But more than that, the return’s world was so dark and the people were all kinda fricked up, and it was obviously supposed to reflect our society at the time in 2016 or whatever. Ending with no sense of hope just made the whole experience sort of grim. Why have Dougie come back at all if the last real goodness in the world gets fricked at the end?

I think that the ending was perfect when he saved Bob and all the cast members showed up at the Sherrif's station. Then it felt like it wasn't enough for Cooper to leave it there, he tried to fix things with Laura and just made everything worse.
