      no, it's not
      >Our Strange did not die defeating Thanos. We were at war. While the rest of us banded together to try to stop Thanos, Stephen, as always, chose to go it alone.
      >838 MORDO: He turned to the Dark hold, began Dream walking, in hopes that our salvation might lie in the Multiverse.
      >CAPTAIN MARVEL: And guess what? It didn’t. But he kept doing it anyway.
      >REED: One night, you called us all together, confessed that you had been Dream walking, and in your words, “Things had gotten out of hand.” You never told us the details of what had happened, only that you had inadvertently triggered an Incursion. You, our friend, had caused the annihilation of another universe. Everyone in that reality died. Everyone.
      >PROF CHARLES XAVIER: Stephen renounced the Darkhold’s evil and helped us find The Book of Vishanti, a weapon we did use together to defeat Thanos.

Putting all forms of strength into some blanket "power level" completely ruins every fiction that does it.

            Anonymous

They don't, and they fluctuate wildly even for individual characters. In another comic Black Bolt could fight ultra Thanos and one shot him because of some bullshit explanation that won't carry over to the next writer anyway. It's the nature of autism + multiple authors.

My problem is there are so many forms of power (magic, psionic, raw strength, etc) that its never clear what overrides what and you just have to accept outcomes when characters fight each other, but that sort of takes out the tension of the fight.

              Anonymous

Yeah, that's the problem. There is no nuance regarding different types of power at all. Whatever power a character does have just gets added together and set at a "power level" or "tier," then the only thing that matters is how that level compares to the opponent's.
For example, if Character A has some super high psychic power but has zero physical strength, they will be able to tank punches from Character B who's a superpowered body builder as long as Character B's "power level" is "below" Character A's. It's fricking simplified bullshit that removes all actual thought for the writers and lets them just not consider anything other than some cumulative tier comparison.

              Anonymous

it will never work because authors don't read each other nor care about internal consistency.
In a comic you have Punisher breaking every bone of his hand for punching Spidey's jaw (which btw didn't absolutely nothing to Spider-man) and in the next one you have Punisher tanking Juggernauth punches and at worst have a bruise. Is just a contest for who cares less about the comics and puts the biggest asspull.
Imagine as if all Marvel/DC authors were Kubo Tite.

There were all kinds of theories as to why Dr.Strange gave up the time stone and the writers just decided the team should fail. If strange could have opened a portal to earth at ANY TIME. He could have gotten to Thor, told him to cut Thanos's arm/head off. Victory. Basically, 14 million possibilities is too many. They should have just made it so Thanos was immortal thanks to the soul stone. Then using the book of vishanti they destroyed the soul stone, killed thanos.

Where's my million dollars for fixing this franchise?

If DBZ worked like this the world he "returned" to would be wildly different due to his initial journey to the past creating changes in the timeline

except she pulled the ship from 2012. If the 2012 thanos spent years studying it, his 2012 self would then have a future that can't be changed. It worked the first time because they were in a branch reality and that 2012 thanos didnt have a future yet.

That's exactly what it means. Every time anyone time travels they create a new reality.

In the Marvel world, a universe is something which contains all its own timelines and also multiple dimensions. You're using logic and definitions from other media, you need to speak in terms of the media you're discussing.

No, I'm not. In Doctor Strange:

            >This universe is only one of an infinite number. Worlds without end. Some benevolent and lifegiving. Others, filled with malice and hunger.....

really what is the difference?? did he checked timelines or universes? arent they kinda synonimous?
This multiverse shit is just lazy writing and you know it. Gives them free way to create cheap shock value content to make capeshitters go wow and then everything can be negated by a sinlge jump back to universe number 420.

Comics needed this as corpos are greedy fricks and they wanted 20 different writers with 20 different stories at a time to sell bs.

          >did he checked timelines or universes? arent they kinda synonimous?
Timelines. He essentially save-stated his way from the moment he arrived on Titan to see what actions insured they would win.

If he was jumping universes at that point, then Xavier, Blackbolt, and Black Marvel would have mysteriously manifested there too, which they did not.

              no, those are branching timelines.

No. I understand you are confused about it as they function pretty fricking similarly in most fictional writing, but they're still largely separate concepts.

In Endgame, they're all time traveling. In Multiverse of Madness, they're universe hopping. A branched timeline still requires a main timeline to go off on. A separate universe does not need a "main" universe to branch off of.

Timeline is within universe, it is not the multiverse itself.

also, Stranges fiurst movie involves time shit as he introduces it to Dormammu and his dimension, which he fricking hates.

So there's an infinite amount of universes with an infinite amount of timelines? So really nothing matters whatsoever.

                Anonymous

                Yep, pretty much.

Which is why you should always avoid hopping universe and then time traveling in said universes; It makes for stupid writing that will never be done right.

                >Time travel 2 years in the past, change a LOT of shit
                >Hop to another universe in that past
                >Time travel 2 years in the future in new universe
                >Hop to another universe
                >There's a chance were you can land in an universe were the changes you made on your first time travel's past don't exist, effectively going to a universe that's pretty much the same
comicgays want to sound smart but then time traveling and universe hopping are pretty much the exact same shit and can take you to the same potential spot.

Only if that Universe births a Kang, and that Kang starts exploring timelines, and one of them doesn't win over all the others.
                It's really up to that.

The problem with endgame was they bothered to explain what would happen if the avengers took the stones from the past. and to an extent what would happen if they got replaced. that single conversation between the hulk and ancient one is one i have to absolutely re-explain to every fricking person ever who tries to talk about endgame/marvel timelines/universes.

Introducing Multiverses and timelines more or less simultaneously was a mistake.

They had to do it to resolve the issue of how they can take the stones without changing the timeline. By having it explained that they'll put them all.back it fixes the paradox

why would they make the MCU universe 616? Wouldnt it make way more sense to give it a new number so they could have MCU characters cross over with other comic runs and stuff? Because now we cant even imagine the mcu and the comics being in the same multiverse

It did seem that way, yes.

Maybe Thanos regained control of himself without him sperging out regardless, I dunno. Strange did the homework and likely one of those was putting Quill to sleep and it still didn't work.

even if they get the gauntlet away, Thanos is still tougher than dual wielding Thor, and might be able to get it right back?
