I wasn't giving you a different answer BJJ IS a meme. It has zero takedown awareness, the users get lulled into a false sense of security thinking they can neglect athleticism. Just walk into a muay thai class and then a BJJ class and you'll see what I mean. They also lie to you and tell you that you can face bigger guys when in reality at best it'll help you SURVIVE not getting your face smashed instantly.

Also the tournaments and rulesets disqualify you if your opponent pulls guard and you lose balance and fall on them. They call it 'slamming'. Also this is coming from someone with 6 years of BJJ. Judo is better, wrestling is better mostly because of the takedown DEFENSE and they have much better takedowns + control.

Yeah that's true. And when you add punches and kicks into the mix BJJ loses a TON of it's cohesion. Look at combat jiu jitsu worlds. They added ground and pound into the mix and you'll notice how most of the people who do mma and participate stomp because the element of realism with striking kind of crumbles a lot of the 'not particularly athletic' types.

The more athletic dudes can hang but you'll see that when they get hit a few times the pressure caves them. There was a saying that went something like "Punch a black belt and he turns into a brown belt. Punch him again and he turns into a purple belt…" ect

Anything BJJ has I think Judo or wrestling can do better. If you're a strong wrestler and come to a class you're automatically almost purple belt material same with Judo. The elements of takedowns and top control are far too valuable. Plus just knowing how to not get taken down will immediately alienate you in a class lmfao. But BJJ can be fun if you have a girlfriend.

I know, it's just of what I said earlier. BJJ classes lull you into a false sense of security when it comes to the whole 'bjj can make even the weakest defeat the strong!' it's a lie but it sells. Its what makes people neglect athletics. Why wrestlers are better by default is not just techniques because it's wrestling culture that says they MUST be in PHENOMENAL physical condition for it.

Being more jacked than your opponent isn't the biggest trump card but it also makes so many things infinitely easier to do.

Yeah in order for you to win if you're smaller is you have to be at the top of your game, in incredible shape relative to your opponent and far more experienced and skilled at keeping the fight at your comfort zone while having the determination and resolve to cause great physical harm to another human.

The last part is harder than you realize.

Boxing + wrestling is the GOAT combo. That the old occidental stuff steamrolls 99 percent of oriental arts was the true discovery of MMA that got smothered by the Gracies promoting BJJ from the rooftops.

Judo works even if a person is wearing something light like a t-shirt. I'd give gi jiu jitsu a pass if they forced you to focus on takedowns before grappling but again that's what makes it suck is the pure ground focus. Judo is great because they force you to learn the throws and THEN do the ground work. Imagine landing a hip toss on concrete? But all grappling arts suffer if you and your opponent are sweaty. It's another reason bjj sucks in MMA. longer fights, more sweat, harder to secure shit.

What this anon said. If you're a good striker even if you're smaller you actually can deal with the weight disparity MUCH easier. Remember height and weight is far more valuable in a grappling match but if your opponent can't actually grab you being able to hit and move without getting tied up will lead you to victory especially if that's your go to fighting style.

Aikido doesn't have very many practical uses. Some joint locks can be applied in a grappling sense if you can actually get past a resisting opponent. But Even if you spend 10 years trying wrist locks and throws it's actually hard to do half of that when someone is throwing their fists at you with everything they have and crashing into you and tying you up.

Plus once you're crashed in and tied up with someone an untrained person (aikido has no clinch work but neither does the crack head down the street) will just lose balance and fall over and your 10 years will be nothing when you're in deep waters (the ground) rolling around with limbs flying everywhere.
