    hey guys, hey hey guys

remember that show with the South Park ripoff style animation that kept buying ads on Cinemaphile? it was about some gross family and nobody fell for it. probably russians, I don't remember.

also remember when not Logan Paul but the other one did an NFT scam? not cryptozoo, that was Logan Paul, I'm talking about the other one. It was called Dink-Doinks and they came out with a cartoon and they ripped off the South Park animation style too!

so what kind of scam is this one?

This video is older than the concept of intermet content being used for profit.

I found out recently there's a bunch of SP episodes on Nico Nico, and even if I can't read japanese it's fun to see how they react to certain scenes

Half of South Park is celebrities they'd never recognize. What do the Japanese get out of South Park?

The best South Park episodes are pretty universal and anyone can enjoy them

I dunno, I enjoy shit like Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei which is just chock full of cultural jokes that are probably sailing over my head but the presentation and the characters and comedic timing make it seem funny anyway. Like, I don't have to necessarily get the full joke to kind of infer SOME of the context.

Honestly, though, there's a lot of jokes involving celebrities AMERICANS wouldn't recognize. Who the hell even knew Brian Boitano was even a real person the first time the say that episode?

You know we live in an era where you can look up a reference if you don't understand it, right?

That's like going to see a standup routine and then googling the material later. I'll grant you that in the streaming age you can just stop and look stuff up but that ruins the flow of the show, and again, comedic timing is important. Sure, you can look stuff up later, but having enough context to infer SOME degree of meaning is important. My point is that something can be funny and you don't necessarily need to understand it past "This absurd man thinks he's a gay fish".

The creator of frickin Hetalia used to post south park episode reviews on his blog and said he used south park to learn English and practice understanding it by ear in fast and casual conversation.

Apparently that's what interests a lot of Japanese fans.
South park to Japan is like what Naruto or DBZ or AOT or whatever is to America. It's one of the "starter animes" in terms of American cartoons, so any of them who wanna experience genuine 'murican TV, the big three for them are usually south Park, Family guy, and the Simpsons.

It's more common in Japan but in lots of eastern countries its also like this, one of my best friends is from Latvia and he enjoys that other American Dad show the way I see anime fans enjoy hero academia. Like the big chin guy is his babygirl and fav character. He also loved the baseball episode of south park because it "felt so american".

I also think the most popular episodes out there, are episodes just about the kids being kids. Japan always likes that kind of stuff.
