Do we have a name for that grimey aesthetic that the Aliens film have? It's so comfy.

That's an instant watch, thanks anon. Also I don't mean only scifi films, but any film with well crafted old school sets

Then it wasn’t instant, was it.

Used Future is it. Ridley Scott came up with it

And yet Lucas used it in Star Wars two years earlier. Also, Alien is specifically a mix of Used Future and Cassette Futurism. So is Blade Runner.

Star Wars looked dirty and lived in but it was never heavy industrial

I'm not sure of the name of it, but the idea is to show the world is actually lived in and things are used. Real life is dirty and grimy, not polished

"used future" is what you're thinking of, but Alien is not used future. Star Wars is.

      "Used future" "cassette futurism" "Greebles"

      see above

Industrial is probably the word you're looking for, in this case Industrial Sci-Fi.

      This. It's industrial.

        >Alien is not used future. Star Wars is.
I don't see why they're different, and if you want to be truly pedantic, all Star Wars is is a shitty Dune clone

everything about Alien leans more into industrial than Star Wars does with its dark gritty claustrophobic atmosphere.

Cyberjunk, a future built on technology andvtrash. 80s was anti-sleek, anti-clean futurism where most scifi was concerned. It was about grime, greebles and trash blowing in the wind. A future of waste, garbage and tacked on, built up infrastructure that is long since in decline.

used future is also a mood on top of an aesthetic. you can really feel the mood of a used future with Star Wars for example.
