Yes
I consider them Cinemaphile.
Can't they be both?
Ba Dum Tas
Too high brow for Cinemaphile
I mean, they literally have comics in them.
I consider them high art.
I don't think that counts. It's written from a 3rd person perspective rather than 1st person.
It's like a close relative of the examples in OP's image in my opinion
That's moronic
That's like saying EVERY Scholastic graphic novel counts
I know it sounds stupid, but George and Harold inspired me to try my hand at being an entrepreneur.
And how did that work out for you, Anon?
I had a small book-making operation going before the teachers destroyed my enterprise. Now I make computer games on the side and sell them to people for free.
In other words, terribly.
I read a book in the 5th grade with a very similar premise. It was called Lunch Money. I bet you didn't even get the girl in the end.
i thought of the same thing when i read that except i thought the book was frindle
they had a whole universe planned out for that caveman fricker, i wanted to be as cool as them
>i wanted to be as cool as them
We all did, brother. We all did.
For me, it's Judy Moody and Cam Jansen. I'm scared to talk about them on Cinemaphile, though.
>Judy Moody
My only memory, other than seeing them on top of my elementary school library shelves, is of the Poptropica promotion and catching the movie on cable years later. I was bewildered at the fact that it got a movie.
>Judy Moody
Holy frick, thank you, I was trying to remember the name of these books.
Based. Did unreadable comics as a kid and always had a House Comics logo in the bottom because I wanted to make comics like George and Harold
Did anyone actually read those Timmy Failure books? Also I'm just now finding out they adapted this.
I did as a kid, mainly the first one as I actually owned it. I remember it being strangely melancholy. I think I was more drawn Timmy's home life rather than his very moronic sleuth shenanigans.
Read most of them growing up. I liked the part in of the sequels where timmy and molly go to a book store that has the authors of various other children's books on it.
Big Nate was a comic strip for decades before the novels. It just wasn't as successful as other kid strips because most of the characters are massive jerks.
Man, Nut Weight has to be my favorite comic book character.
Speaking of which, you guys ever just go and find the original designs of comic characters and see how they evolve over time?
Real chad coming in.
How many of these characters have had a Poptropica island?
>Poptropica island?
The what though?
It was a Flash adventure game/MMO hybrid made by the Wimpy Kid guy. Some levels, called "islands" as that's how they're presented in the context of the game, were sometimes based other books.
There was 2 based on DOAWK, a Big Nate one and a Timmy Failure one. There were tie-in promos for Dork Diaries and Middle School too.
Poor Jamie got left out.
>made by the Wimpy Kid guy
Wait what, I didn't know that. Makes sense with the art style though
No Amelia?!?
/co/, I am disappoint!
Amelia Rules doesn't really fit the criteria of OP
She's more in line with Calvin & Hobbes and Peanuts than DOAWK or Dear Dumb Diaries
She DOES narrate but it's far different from the diary format's handling of the first person perspective
The Brits did it before it became mainstream.
my wiener is already getting hard reading this.

There's something about that How to Draw Manga style that I really like. Nikki is cute.
I just remembered how messed up the middle school books were (bottom left guy). The main character is a kid whose mom's dating an abusive boyfriend, and at the end it's revealed that his best friend is actually an imagination of his twin brother who died at birth. The author wrote another book series (not illustrated iirc) about a kid who becomes a comedian to cope with the fact that his family died in a car accident that also left him permanently in a wheelchair. He also lives in the garage with his butthole relatvies
Yeah, I remember hating the movie because of how they removed most of that shit.
Oh... Who is that little angel there in the bottom left..?
Nikki from Dork Diaries
Looked into it. The website is a treasure trove of preteen girl emotions and budding sexuality. Thank you for bringing it to my attention
>I'm so moronic
>the star wars books with the moronic kid
Jedi Academy? I don't remember any tards in that one.
it didn't take place in star wars but was about star wars
this moronic kid makes an origami yoda and gives advice in this shitty yoda voice
i dont remember if it holds up or not like wimpy kid
These books took place very close to my middle school, and the author lived nearby. I always assumed they were just a small local thing
Supremely based
I love Jamie Kelly!
Yes
Okay Cinemaphile which of these had it worst than the rest? I think the one left of Greg is a schizo with a divorce family but I don’t know the rest to cast judgement
