I don't think that counts. It's written from a 3rd person perspective rather than 1st person.

I had a small book-making operation going before the teachers destroyed my enterprise. Now I make computer games on the side and sell them to people for free.
          In other words, terribly.

I read a book in the 5th grade with a very similar premise. It was called Lunch Money. I bet you didn't even get the girl in the end.

        >Judy Moody
My only memory, other than seeing them on top of my elementary school library shelves, is of the Poptropica promotion and catching the movie on cable years later. I was bewildered at the fact that it got a movie.

Based. Did unreadable comics as a kid and always had a House Comics logo in the bottom because I wanted to make comics like George and Harold

Did anyone actually read those Timmy Failure books? Also I'm just now finding out they adapted this.

I did as a kid, mainly the first one as I actually owned it. I remember it being strangely melancholy. I think I was more drawn Timmy's home life rather than his very moronic sleuth shenanigans.

Read most of them growing up. I liked the part in of the sequels where timmy and molly go to a book store that has the authors of various other children's books on it.

Big Nate was a comic strip for decades before the novels. It just wasn't as successful as other kid strips because most of the characters are massive jerks.

Speaking of which, you guys ever just go and find the original designs of comic characters and see how they evolve over time?

It was a Flash adventure game/MMO hybrid made by the Wimpy Kid guy. Some levels, called "islands" as that's how they're presented in the context of the game, were sometimes based other books.

How many of these characters have had a Poptropica island?

There was 2 based on DOAWK, a Big Nate one and a Timmy Failure one. There were tie-in promos for Dork Diaries and Middle School too.
        Poor Jamie got left out.

Amelia Rules doesn't really fit the criteria of OP
She's more in line with Calvin & Hobbes and Peanuts than DOAWK or Dear Dumb Diaries
She DOES narrate but it's far different from the diary format's handling of the first person perspective

I just remembered how messed up the middle school books were (bottom left guy). The main character is a kid whose mom's dating an abusive boyfriend, and at the end it's revealed that his best friend is actually an imagination of his twin brother who died at birth. The author wrote another book series (not illustrated iirc) about a kid who becomes a comedian to cope with the fact that his family died in a car accident that also left him permanently in a wheelchair. He also lives in the garage with his butthole relatvies
