I watched Shrek Retold yesterday. I forgot just how much of it was low effort memey crap. The only live action segment I liked was the one that tried to be a well-shot drama. I'm glad the Shrek vs the knights fight scene had someone who actually gave a shit. There were lots of iconic parts of the movie like "WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY SWAMP?!" that were done by people who couldn't give less of a shit when it's supposed to be a tribute to Shrek.

The best part is that it segways from a competent anime parody indie animation right into fricking Chris-Chan.

In the latter half of the video. Some dude legit just makes a really fricking awful review of Shrek instead of actually doing a skit and it is not funny at all even ironically.

I am so glad we are past that irony poisoned era of the internet, goddamn it was so bad.

The problem is that these projects are filled with either people making it look like shit ironically, or they're genuinely untalented, and the fact that actually skilled people work on these make the problem more apparent. Wish they were more strict with who they allow to work on big projects like this.

You'd think Shrek 2 writers would have the King give his blessing to Shrek and Fiona when they were in their ogre forms. Not that heartfelt if he does it while they're handsome humans.

Shrek 2 isn't as good as the first, sorry if this sounds controversial these days. Shrek 5 stars, Shrek 2 4 stars. Shrek 3 3 stars, Shrek 4 2 star.

Dreamworks sure went out of their way to make kung fu Panda 2 as boring to watch, narratively rushed and annoyingly unfunny as possible. One of their worst films.

Should've stopped with the first movie. They couldn't stop with the second movie even if they wanted because there was still unresolved stuff. For example, what the frick happened to Charming?

Fairy Godmother breaking her diet by eating junk food out of stress like tacos, chili rings, monte cristos and deep fried food smothered in chocolate was just Dreamworks trying to make adults laugh via cheap identification. Nothing clever about that joke.

    >deports fairytale/nursery rhymes characters to a swamp, even the human ones like Pied Piper or Old Woman in the Shoe and her children, because they don't fit his idea of a perfect world
    >has Gingerbread Man tortured so he rats out his fellow magical characters, and later throws him to a garbage can once he loses interest in the interrogation
    >forces the DuLoc citizens to live in identical looking houses with the same coats of paint
    >wants to send knights to fight Dragon and save Fiona because he's unwilling to do it himself
    >turns Magic Mirror in his new source of information against his will
    >turns Mama Bear in a rug for his bedroom
    >doesn't thank Shrek for rescuing Fiona and tells him to go away before he changes his mind about giving him back the swamp
    >stops considering Fiona after she turns into an ogresss ("it's disgusting") and inmediately says he'll lock her in the tower again while holding a dagger to her throat
    Farquaad was an butthole

It's okay on a closed environment, is even a great film since nothing quite like was done before. But the damage it did to animated movies and his legacy kinda ruins in some level, specially because what it did and what made it special was copied and pasted over and over again in all animated movies to come after him so rewatching you don't get the same experience, becoming a meme also didn't help but is not that important, when you look at it from a separate angle you see how Shrek was destructive thing even if didn't tried to do that.

I think the sequel gets the type of humor it tries to do better, barely remember the third one and never watched the fourth because I had no reason to.
