I watched the first episode, it was boring. Everyone keeps acting like it's going to be some sort of game changer in the MCU. I think it's going to be some pointless side story that wraps up Nick Fury's character and other than that will not have any major repercussions.
I think one of two things is going to happen, everyone that is revealed to be a Skrull is going to be a literally-who and it'll be like a Hydra in SHIELD situation, or if an important character Rhodes is revealed to be a Skrull it'll be just recently. Like they won't have been a Skrull for very long. Pretty much I think the shit is just going to get wrapped up and never mentioned anywhere outside of these six episodes.

also Armor Wars is wrapping up in August. They cannot get rid of Rhodes, unless they go with the "Tony Stark was replaced after Infinity War, and the real one is seething in space because of Thanos" theory, and bring RDJ back for that. But that's highly unlikely.

If Rhodes is a Skrull, which I doubt, he won't be gotten rid of. He'll have just recently been replaced. They don't kill the people they replace, they put them in some sort of 'capture chamber' to steal their memories.
So basically if Rhodes is a Skrull in this show, I believe it will have been some time after End Game. Actually fairly recently to this show. Like he won't have been a Skrull this entire time, it doesn't make sense especially if they're coming out with Armor Wars. That would also mean that Ross is not actually gone either. It'll be a "oh thank you guys for rescuing us from those Skrull imposters, they've had us trapped for two weeks! Thank goodness we wrapped this all up and there were no major implications aside from Maria Hill dying and we never have to talk about any of this again!"

If they're still doing Armor Wars, that's most likely going to happen. It's kinda funny, Secret Invasion was one of those big crossover storylines in the comics. It really deserves a whole phase and an Avengers movie to tell the whole story. But instead they're doing a mini series with almost none of the big name heroes participating.

The way they dropped the ball came way earlier than that, but it has to do with the bigger story arc. As an old-school comics geek, I think they did an extremely mid-to-bad job of giving us the Infinity Gauntlet, but at least it provided an actual backdrop. It at least gave the audience a sense that the movies were part of a larger story, that this was all leading somewhere. I think of it like this:
Imagine if Lord of the Rings wasn’t a beloved, decades-old story that had already enjoyed previous adaptations and a serious level of cultural familiarity before a major studio started making any movies out of Tolkien’s story. Now imagine a movie simply titled “Aragorn” came out and was moderately successful and well-received. After the credits roll, there’s a scene of Aragorn speaking with a mysterious, bearded figure in a wizard hat about joining a team he’s putting together. Now imagine that somewhere around five or six movies later, we learn the significance of the One Ring. Then somewhere around twenty movies later, we see the entire Fellowship along with various and sundry other characters all work together to finally defeat Sauron and banish him for all time.
And then we get a movie called “Rosie.” It’s set in the Shire and follows the adventures of Samwise’s wife.

Joss Whedon used the chitari but made a point that they were not the Skrull in interviews after Avengers came out, splitting them even though you're right, they're supposed to be skrulls. In the MCU, both are different alien species. They haven't really focused on Skrulls in the MCU until now because Fox had the rights to alot of the more important skrull characters.
Fox had the rights to Skrulls through the FF so Marvel started using Chitari as a Skrull stand in if I remember right

A big reason the comics died is they have so much continuity but so little editorial control. One person comes in and makes a pile of shit, and because its a shared story, everyone else has to deal with that. If you want to know what's going on, you can't just deal with the story you're interested in, you need twenty other stories too. And because one author can do something stupid without any control, most of the stories are just retcons to undo then redo then unredo somebody else's change. Jean is alive, Jean is dead, Jason Todd is dead, no he's alive, no that was just Clayface, he's really alive though, but that was a clone though, but the REAL Jason...etc.
The MCU is making all of the same mistakes. The comics also suffered when the characters people like were replaced with DEI versions, which the MCU is also attempting to do instead of just recasting.

The thing is, it took the comics 30 or 40 years for the continuity to become so tortured. The MCU fast-forwarded to that point unnecessarily. Introducing the multiverse is the sort of shit you do as a desperate gimmick when you've run out of other stories, and they went right at it post-endgame.
They're overvaluing the "big event" and ignoring the individual characters now. Nobody's going to give a shit about the Kang Dynasty if the only people involved are the phase 4 humps like Captain Marvel and Blacktin' America. Just make some good solo movies where the characters casually overlap if it makes sense.
They messed up before Endgame. I get the whole “gotta keep hype” thing, but from a story perspective, this would work much better

What's even the point of doing this story now? They already blew the infiltration of S.H.I.E.L.D load with the Hydra plot in TWS. There aren't enough super powered characters in the MCU in the world to make their infiltration a major threat like it was in the comic run. Endgame was finale to MCU. Everything else feels like an extremely overplayed epilogue.
They needed a Doom or Galactus appearance in the Endgame post credits. Instead they've yet to do that in nearly 5 years, even Kang just came off as an Ant-Man one off villain who was defeated in the movie he showed up in. So no one knows what the point of any of this is.
