I think you're right. There's a lot of stuff Dune does, like the endless internal monologues or all the Weirding Way fighting, which are very awkward and out of place in live action but perfectly acceptable in anime. Plus animation allows for a lot more surreal visuals in general and Dune really needs that.

I'm a booklet so I'm only going off the movies. In the first movie, it looked like the Voice could only control you for a few seconds before you came back to your senses. In the second movie, Jessica uses the Voice to give people orders that take hours or days to complete (like the time she uses the Voice to order a Fremen to go look for Paul). Is that just Villeneuve going overboard with his favorite sound effect or can you really use the Voice to mind control people for a long time?

The Voice makes someone carry out a simple task, so it could be used in that way if the subject was weak-willed enough. You could also assume the Voice got the Fremen to leave and start the search and at some point they just decided to keep going. But yeah, Denis was taking liberties for dramatic effect because it's not actually used that way in the books.

He couldn't stick with a cinematographer if his life depended on it. In his dozen films to date, Villeneuve has had eight or nine different cinematographers, I think.
Probably has to do with him not really being an auteur, but just a studio director for hire. Meaning he'll just have to take the cinematographer the studio hires for him anyway.
It's a shame cause Deakins really brought a lot to the table with his cinematography and it wasn't just blue and orange meme. The first Dune isn't even that bad at the beginning when it still follows the book close enough for it to be enjoyable, but then it becomes trash and any novelty the cinematography had wears off. And don't even get me started on those awful action scenes with that shit cinematography and cheap CGI.

Im surprised at all the criticism for the casting. The cast isnt great but I think the script is a much bigger issue. Most actors would look bad with the shitty writing of this movie.

The real problem is that Dennis Villeneuve is incapable of even directing grown-up professional actors properly, so there's no way that he'd manage to get a good performance out of a child.
