No it won't. They'll just get some other director to continue the series. The studio won't stop until the films start flopping.

So, how long do you think that’ll take? Children is probably solvent by bringing back Paul, God-Emperor is a maybe if they find a good writer (lol who am I kidding) but I can’t see 2020s dunc sois accepting the last two

Villeneuve just wants to tell the story of Paul. There's only one more book with Paul. He said the next movie will be the last. So we can assume he will finish Paul's story. Maybe the producers will get someone else to make Dune movies. There are plenty of stories left to tell. Villeneuve will just make the last one i think.

Sorry, I misunderstood your reply as meaning that it would be the last movie Villeneuve ever makes. It'll almost certainly be his last Dune movie since he's been pushing to adapt it as a trilogy for a while now.

Paul's story is over with Messiah. He exists in Children in a supporting role to Leto II, both in-universe and within narrative function.

You can just say "Paul was eaten by Shai-hulud after walking into the desert" and it's a functional ending.

        From Frank’s books:

        >Dune, Appendix II, page 543. "Mankind's movement through deep space placed a unique stamp on religion during the one hundred and ten centuries that preceded the Butlerian Jihad." The Jihad was 201-108 BG, so this would approximately be 11,100-11,200 BG.

I wasn't the least bad, the jihad was completely inevitable as soon as he did the water of life ceremony. Then he pussed out on turning into a worm and become a schizo desert bum instead because he was distraught about billions dying in his name. Which wasn't a path he chose, it was the inevitable future.
