Dune: Prophecy

>Dune: Prophecy is set 10,000 years before the events of Dune (2021), the series follows sisters Valya and Tula Harkonnen as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect known as the Bene Gesserit. It is scheduled to premiere on Max in late 2024.
Is it a mistake for Dunc to try and grow into a franchise like this? It seems dumb to adapt non-canon prequel books first instead of adapting the rest after Messiah.

Definitely. Dune's canon works past the original are shaky at best and very improvised. You don't get the picture there was a grand plan to all of it.

Of course it is but villenueve has no say anyways, it's not up to him. He doesn't own the franchise and is not involved in the project. WB will do whatever the frick they want because David Zasalazaz loves freestyling out projects and blaming everyone but himself

If it has even the slightest association with Brian herberts work it will be an abortion the likes of which makes the star wars sequels look good.

The cast listing is literally just powerful woman, powerful woman, powerful woman

To be fair, Dunc is a pretty good launchpad for a cinematic universe.
Competent producers would focus on building on that quality with a show that would make people excited for Messiah. But this is wb so obviously they have to tank it the second they're able to wrestle any creative control from the person who built it up for them
