Rebuild 3.0+1.0 reveals that the Rebuilds are actually a sequel, with shinji having repeated his life many times until finally something different (mari) breaks the cycle and allows him to be happy

No, Kawaru is just an artificial angel and those are the previous failed attempts at making him.

Anonymous

This was actually a soft confirmation that kaworu was the same kaworu in every piece of eva media. Like the spinoff mangas and dating games and shit. It doesn't actually confirm that the rebuilds and nge and the rebuilds are many 'cycles' apart, just that the rebuilds are the last one
Eva is like a loop. It repeats over and over again because both Adam and Lilith are on Earth. Every time the humans discover both they frick it up and try to use them instead of keeping Adam shut down by the Lance of Longinus. The aliens knew that having both is a big problem but either they were too lazy or weren't able to retrieve either egg, so they crippled Adam and shoved him under the ice. Shinji and Eva Unit 1 serve as the catalyst for the singularity that eventually results in time resetting. The Third Impact. In the series Shinji chooses, or potentially accidentally chooses, to carry out Human Instrumentalization. Theoretically, HI should result in the evolution of the human species and launch humanity to the same advanced state of being that the aliens achieved. By melding everyone in a single super-intelligent being humans would be able to surpass their bodies and emotionally crippled existence. However, in End of Evangelion, Shinji chooses to stay a person and get laid. Thus looping it back over and causing it all to happen again. In the rebuilds Shinji is supposed to be able to somehow redirect the path of humanity and (maybe?) prevent the impacts from happening again. Shinji and Mari are able to just be people and everyone else probably got to as well. An extremely important piece of symbolism that people ignore is that at the end of the rebuilds Shinji and Mari are in Hideaki Anno's home town. It's possible that he is trying to say that Shinji has finally managed to align humanity's path with the one we're on now. Thus meaning that Shinji has finally overcome what prevented instrumentality from succeeding in the past, and humanity can exist in ignorance.
The fact that this is going over so many people’s heads is really making me question the intelligence of this board. They quite literally spell it out for the audience in one of the films.

You should always doubt the intelligence of a Cinemaphile user. I very, very rarely engage in legitimate discussion on this entire website because the userbase has shifted so drastically. Ultimately, you can group today's Cinemaphile users into a few groups

>2016 election tourists who never left because their favorite subreddit was deleted
Every single member of this category is too stupid to think critically. They came here solely on the back of a populist social and political revolution that was engineered specifically to prey on and take advantage of those too unintelligent to notice.

>underage users
A lot of the posters here are children. That was the case when I first started using Cinemaphile in 2009 too. As adults, presumably, we have to be understanding and mature about the way children comprehend and communicate about their favorite topics. They are typically very emotional, irrational, and uneducated. This leads to most of the moronic debatelords you see as these kids are smart enough to want to engage in intellectual exercises, but aren't yet prepared for it.

>actual morons
Self explanatory.

I think you mostly nailed it but I'm curious about this part: "Shinji overcoming what prevented instrumentality from succeeding in the past" - wouldn't that mean that HI would be carried out and we'd all be reduced to orange slime? Rather, Shinji would find a way to make HI redundant or atleast not possible. From my fuzzy memory, Shinji simply rejected the ideas of EVA's in the fourth movie. However, I am likely wrong and misinterpreting things.

[...]
I didn't notice that. From the third Rebuild movie, I take it? So the timeloop doesn't reset time, it's actually a loop that starts off from where the previous cycle ended in a linear timeframe?

I don't know actually. You could be right, HI could potentially only result in the slime. HI could result in a peaceful life where every human is completely unaware of the terrors they created because they are in an ignorant bliss. That's a question for someone who has spent more time on Eva than I have.

The difference is Shinji gained control of Eva Imaginary. Previously only the real could be affected, but now he could effect even the imaginary. So instead of resetting things like had previously happened he was able to imagine a world where the Evas simply never existed at all.

That's kind of the part of End of Evangelion right? "Eva Imaginary" almost kind of hints at Shinji getting to make the decision for himself, but ultimately he didn't really have total control. He could only choose goo or pussy, right?

No, that was still just standard instrumentality which could only affect reality. Gendo "discovering" Eva Imaginary is the difference.

That's what I got from it, which is also why the moon still has the bloodstain and the ocean is still red.

Anonymous

I thought, perhaps incorrectly, that the ocean was red because they had managed to survive multiple impacts. Am I just making that up?

Rebuild starts 15 years after the second impact just like the original series, but the ocean is blue in the original series except for in Antarctica and the rest only gets discolored after third impact.

I actually like the fact that nothing ends up happening between Shinji and Asuka. The fact that she wants to get fricked, and he wants to frick her but neither of them is able to make it happen due to their character flaws and the lack of understanding between them really fits the show thematically. Their inability to bridge that gap of communication and understand one another is a really clear example of one of the show's major themes.

Literally EVERYTHING is worse in the new movies. I don't know what happened to Anno but he lost the spark and he just doesn't get what made the original so special and unique. I can't think of any artist who owned himself so hard. The new movies are everything wrong with anime today. True, but the last one was legitimately good. The originals were a vehicle for his grief and depression, and it sounds like he’s just been separated from that for too long to make good art about it… except for the fourth.

Both look extremely pleasant and alluring. But I'm not the best to judge because any kind of women's undies look alluring to me, so long as they're not granny panties. My wife decided to start wearing granny panties several years ago because she found them to be the most comfortable kind of underwear. Problem is that they're also the most unflattering kind of underwear, particularly for her physique. I see her in those fricking granny pants and I cannot feel aroused no matter how much I try.
