Genuine question.

Genuine question. Do people actually think that the setting of Star Wars is not conducive towards politics, complexity or any degree of world building?

I think that up until to the prequel trilogy the star wars universe was very weird and pulpy but it became more suited to that sort of thing when the prequels gave the senate something more than a background role.

Even the EU books had been giving Star Wars worldbuilding. So I don't understand why everyone thinks that because Star Wars is based off of sci fi serials, that means it can't have any depth or worldbuilding.

Sure, it's fine for it. With decent writing. But Lucasgays need to decide what he wanted to be. Lol what fricking little kid is into political dramas?

It's "How to subvert democracy" dumbed down into something you could show on Sesame Street.

The universe established in the OT is simple, black-and-white, and cartoonish. Trying to add drama, complexity, or political intrigue to that type of environment is a losing battle.
The entire concept was to recreate pulp fiction action-adventure serials. It's not the fans' fault that the whole idea behind the franchise is self-limiting.
It's a story about a guy who looks like an evil wizard as the main villain. Not really something you could add complex politics to.

        >Not really something you could add complex politics to.
It works best as it is in ANH, something other characters talk about existing and allude to the happenings of.

The politics in the prequel trilogy are not complex. They are simple as shit. The problem is all the characters not named Palpatine suck dick.

The politics of the prequel era are pretty dead simple ideas like "Politicians and corporations are corrupt and easy to manipulate" with characters having satire names like Nute Gunray or Halle Burtoni

It's "How to subvert democracy" dumbed down into something you could show on Sesame Street.

And that's the main reason it's bad. Kids don't care and it's far too simplistic for adults.

It's not bad. The movies are shit for reasons entirely unrelated to whether it has politics of any complexity present.

That's probably worse. Reinhard is omnipotent absolute monarch who can afford to be a do-gooder and give concessions everywhere and Yang is a cynic who doesn't give a shit, or he does but he's a sop all the time
I need to finish still. I like Oberstein though

In my opinion the story was almost perfect until kircheis death then it really declines in quality.

            >who can afford to be a do-gooder and give concessions everywhere
Except he needed his redhead twink friend for that. He immediately compromised and let the nuke happen.
It's a major character issue the entire series ad practically defines him

It's more that I think the prequels are boring with worldbuilding that's often outright shit. Good worldbuilding is possible with Star Wars.

    >palpatine says something along the lines of
    >AND WE SHALL BECOME THE GALACTIC EMPIRE
    >*cut to a bunch of squid aliens celebrating?*
    >*cut to panda bear and jar jar looking sad*
brilliant representation of politics and bureaucracy. really smart stuff.
