Get ready for an animation renaissance using AI

The corridor crew guys have been playing with AI animations (using a few reference photos and mocap).
Results are rough for now, but give it 5 years and we'll see a deluge of poor quality animated films (think the shitty straight to video versions of famous Disney movies).

Good or bad for animation and cartoons?

I can see this being an android situation where the technology is so accessible and easy to use that there are literally thousands of shitty mobile games released a day. Only for cartoons.

You will never be a real artist. You have no skill, you have no knowledge of the essentials, you have no artstyle. You are a portfolio-less man twisted by laziness and software into a crude mockery of nature’s perfection.
All the (You)'s you get are two-faced and half-hearted. Behind your back anons mock you. Drawgays are disgusted and ashamed of you, your “fellow anons” laugh at your ghoulish multi-limbed generations behind 7 proxies
Artists are utterly repulsed by you. Thousands of years of artwork have allowed men to sniff out ai frauds with incredible efficiency. Even generated pics that “pass” look uncanny and unnatural to the viewer. The eyes and mangled appendages are a dead giveaway. And even if you manage to get a coomer to commission you, he’ll turn tail and bolt the second he gets a peak of the eldritch horror AI passes as a vegana.
You will never feel the satisfaction of drawing. You wrench out a fake smile with every soulless stolen picture you generate and tell yourself it’s your work, but deep inside you feel the truth creeping up like a deadline, ready to crush you under the unbearable weight.
Eventually it’ll be too much to bear - you’ll delete the software, deactivate your socials, delete all of "your work", and plunge into the cold abyss that is pestering artgays for weird fetish art. Your anons won't remember your name but will relieved that they no longer have to live with ai spam. They’ll make a throwback thread talking about the dark era of ai and every anon for the rest of Cinemaphile will know you were an imposter who couldn't draw. Your generations will 404 and go back to the archive, and all that will remain of your legacy is garbage that is unmistakably artificial.
This is your fate. This is what you chose. There is no turning back.

It's all garbage. In fact the digital slop, 3D, and CGI of the last two decades prepped consoomers for the garbage that will be AI "art."
To see good stuff you have to go back to at least the 1990s, and the 30s-60s were the height of comics, animation, and illustration (aesthetically).

Don't bother, anon. You can't really help people out of a mindset that not only conveniently cancels the worth of what they're incapable of understanding or achieving, but also grants itself superiority by the sheer delusion of myopia rationalized as "big picture" vision.

          >everything good in the industry
What's good? Comic series in pic related are some of my faves, and most are at least a few decades old. I still come across the occasional good new comic. I don't even keep up with animation anymore, even the ads make me cringe.
The problem is digital production, coloring in most comics is shit, most animation looks like shit because of over-reliance on 3D, CGI, etc. Movies look like video games. There's no character in anything. AI will worsen the trend.

            Anonymous

Okay that explains it, you're a "stylization is god" type and what you have to understand is that some styles can ONLY work in flat 2d media without becoming massive money sinks. Some artists' motifs simply don't gel with animation and much less with live-action and that's not the faults of those mediums.

        Anonymous

        Huh?

          Anonymous

Some characters were (the humans mostly, SW included but not the dwarfs for example obviously

Damn, did people look like this in 1937? The GD sure took a toll

), because the artists were fricking dying on their feet while trying to pull off the monumental task of doing a feature-length film for the first time and upgrading their ability to depict really believable human characters at the same time. So despite the protests of a sizable part of the team, they were asked to stop analyzing the reference footage and actually trace over it. Some did, some partially did, some didn't.

The irony is that this argument is often brought up to "prove" that rotoscoping is the same thing as animation, but what it proves it that rotoscoping is what you have to do when you simply fall short of the required skill to do animation. Of course, the following 3/4 of a century of reference material actually used as reference material is conveniently ignored.

People who want to acknowledge the value of rotoscoping and actually know what they're talking about (or simply, don't just intent to use rotoscoping as a self-serving endall argument to compare the op slop with what animation actually is as a creative medium) bring up better examples like "When the Day Breaks".

            >but what it proves it that rotoscoping is what you have to do when you simply fall short of the required skill to do animation
            Yes? It's a time saver.

              Anonymous

Kinda, in the way that fapping is a "time saver" compared to sex and definitely cuts back the required buildup of skill and dedication to make it happen. They may of course overlap in what you may be interested in getting off it (pun intended) and that's fine, while definitely missing what others value but you don't (or can't), a fact that shouldn't be ignored. And granted, many, MANY people may never find out the difference, in some bizarre cases out of a delusion of personal choice built on the notion that a limited perspective grants a different point of view, rather than a lack of one.

It'll be mostly Youtube content, only the stuff made by people with an actual creative spark will hit anything resembling retail. Honestly, I'm not against the idea of AI being a supplementary tool for things like in-betweens or quick and dirty storyboarding but the problem is that the conversation's been hijacked by people who aren't artists. The loudest voices are people who are absurdly bitter at artists and want to make this about replacing people which is really petty and shows that all they care about is the output and not the work that got it there.
