It was okay when there was 4, with 2 lanterns to sector 2814 and 2 stationed on Oa for special purposes. With Alan being a pretender with a magic knockoff.
Jess could kind of work as the one with an alternate universe knockoff. Simon has no reason to exist. Teen Lantern absolutely has no reason to exist outside of just wanting to make a lantern for a cancelled Young Justice series. Jo has no reason to exist in current continuity, and I don't think she was even a 21st century lantern to begin with.
Jo was meant to be a cool space noir cop, far away in her own small corner of the universe. She works on shorts solo titles, not in mainland titles were everyone Is fricking OP, but go tell editors that.

It's so depressing. I had high hopes for Jeremy Adams because he was on the GLTAS but this run is absolutely boring. We're ten issues into this and the plot is still hinging on the readers caring about this United Planets bullshit even though this plot has all the hallmarks of what people hate in bad GL runs.
As for GL War Journal, it's fricking John Stewart. He's boring, I don't give a shit about him and his mom, and he will never have willpower equal to Hal or Kyle's no matter how many power-ups they give him.

Imagine if Peter became a serial killer supervillain and his entire rogues gallery and supporting cast were killed off and retired in an effort to make Miles look good. John's introduction is much more in line with Miles, a new GL that replaced his predecessor temporarily before working alongside him

That's more because the editors who plotted Emerald Twilight are Supermangays and Batmangays like Denny O'Neil who never liked Green Lantern to begin with, they just wanted sales to go up. Even then the interactions between Kyle and Hal were the highlights of Ron Marz's run because he treated Hal respectfully, unlike the last two decades of GL.

Hal is only on Earth now because he said frick you to the galactic government and is technically a rogue again. Both John and Guy pretty much gave up on Earth life, and usually live as honor guard GLs full time on New Oa/Mogo.
Except with GLs you can arguably get away with that given the nature of how GLs work and the entire universe you can play with. Batman on the other hand is a different story since we're talking about physically trained street heroes working in one city. Which even then I can somewhat give a pass given the size of Gotham and how perpetually fricked that city is.

That never felt like the case, from his inception. Not even a Halgay but Kyle was just given everything from the start, and they kept on giving him more things like random power-ups and titles (Torchbearer, Ion, White Lantern, etc.) to just keep pushing him as special and relevant.

I think the problem is that GL now has the same problem as Batman franchise. Every single new writer to the book wants to invent a new OC and try to push that as the next big thing.

The current run is too fricking slow. We had 6 issues of Hal fricking around on Earth. It was a year of issues before we were told why he was fricking around on Earth, not an official GL, and why his ring keeps shutting down when he leaves orbit.
A fricking year, and it feels like this should technically be on the third page of issue #2 by now. Frick around on Earth on issue 1 THEN get on with the fricking story already. If this were a show we would be at the 8 minute mark of the first episode right here. This is the most annoying slowest slow burn that is making me fricking bored.

yoiu see, you are making a joke but this is pretty much what is going on. And for the purposes of landing their next gig. It's the same thing in animation too. Personal clout really helps land the next job in about 6 months so they do anything to bring attention to themselves or anything that they can claim was a huge amazing thing they accomplished.
This is why there is always an announcement when some background nobody character that appeared for 5 seconds in some whatever scene is announced as gay even though it never comes up in the movie/show at all.
