Did you ever consider that their message was more relevant and revolutionary within their time period and that your decades later snobbery about it is misplaced?
No, not until someone pointed it out. I often have a hard time believing that people were so moronic back then, but I guess the evidence proves otherwise.
The importance of the college campus comedy circuit and the blacklisting of comics deemed not woke enough wreaked comedy for years following that change.
oh frick off with this red pill bullshit
comedians complaining about being called killed comedy
"you can't say anything about trans people"
meanwhile here's a 60 million dollar contract for Dave Chappelle to do mid tier jokes and monologue about how he's being oppressed by broke lefties
David Chappelle was a big name prior to the cultural shift. Wokes targeting famous and rich comics like Chappelle and Rogan for censorship is about creating a freezing effect on free speech for small time comics who don't have the famous comics resources and can be easily canceled.
Nah. Rogan created a narrative about being oppressed as a coping mechanism for not being funny. Chappelle hasn't been funny or relevant in ages and he started telling troony jokes as an act of desperation so people would start talking about him again.
troony you are delusional, Chappelle has been a consistently popular comic since his Chappelle show days. Rogan has consistently worked since the 90s but was never a big deal until his show got big which is when he was targeted by progressives because he went off script for Covid and his audience demographics are something those progressives can only dream of having.

Of course you forget to mention that Rogan accrued that massive audience *before* he started saying conspiracy theorist nonsense. And it was purely because of the guests he pulled; guests who consistently carry him because he's always been a terrible interviewer.
Oh and to suggest that Chappelle is anywhere near the level of popularity he was in the early 2000's is just blatant dishonesty. He gets more media attention now for making troony jokes than he has for years, and that's precisely why he's doing it. Controversy sells. Always has.

Rogan has had controversial guests on his show before it got big. Alex Jones has been on his podcast since it's early days. And David Chappelle doesn't have to tell troony jokes to sell out shows. You're an idiot.
But targeting rich and famous comics who are to big to be canceled was never the point. The point was to put a freeze on free speech by letting small time comics what will happen if they step out of line.

Comedians made people laugh by brazenly saying the things that many people thought about in private but may not express out loud. We currently live in a culture where expressing your impulsive observations is haram and you will lose your career if you do it. That atmosphere was created by the left and it is what killed comedy.
Except you're not telling the truth, you just hear comedians endlessly complain about it and funnily enough, none are cancelled

Plenty of people try to get their enemies cancelled and it doesn't work. It only works when they dig and find real dirt, and that's only when there is real dirt to find. Is it something I'm happy about? No, I think it's gross. People with integrity don't do that shit. More than anything it's a byproduct of people having way more public exposure in the era of the internet than they ever did before. But to say that it's a sign we're living in some kind of Orwellian dystopia is just histrionic, and to suggest that it's not a tactic employed regularly by BOTH sides of the political spectrum in the current era is deliberately dishonest.

No, you're wrong. The ADL literally exists for this extortion racket. All big corporations will ruin you at their whim. Sure, there might be some small businesses that will be objective, but the consolidation is immense and only worsened by covid riots and lockdowns.
Carlin, Bill Hicks, and Doug Stanhope are the unholy trinity of pretentious, self-righteous, hipster homosexuals that get off on the fumes of their own fake intellectualism.
In the defense of Bill Hicks when he was growing up the Religious Right / Moral Majority types had major mainstream no shit political power and were fricking awful. I'm skeptical he would have changed with the times so he'd probably be insufferable now but when he was endlessly shitting on TV evangelists they were serious business.
Still, his ideas were still pretty insufferable when you look at them through a more objective lens. He was a funny guy, but he was definitely a sophist at best when it came to philosophy.
not him but to add to what he said, for the time period it was in it wasn't sophist because most people didn't dare say that shit. You are using a relative adjective there to make a subjective comparison.
To an extent, yes. What's different is the level of influence and how they're regarded. These were people that could get shit banned and tv shows canceled all the while being taken very seriously. It's not easy to explain. Imagine a group of people got together and banned Halloween from your kid's grade school and then banned all non-Jesus Christmas iconography like Santa Claus a couple months later. You can't get the music you want to listen without driving 100 miles because no one will sell it. Is a censored version good enough? No? Get fricked we'll pray for you.
carlin isnt funny though, my dad gave me class clown for my birthday said it was the funniest album he ever had. shit you not the first 20 minutes is him making fart noises into the mic.
The bits about the beach being shit and then talking moths was funny. Its a very stream of consciousness type comedy that either hits or misses but its only maligned because he got put in the george carlin boat of guys who have SOMETHING TO SAY. For the most part Hicks' comedy was soc bits on the news and jokes about being a degenerate. He's pretty prototypical internet humour that way except he actually put in the fricking work and put out new material every night so he got a big name for it.
Are you fricking kidding me, where did you get this from you moron? Hicks was sympathetic to poor people, that's why in one of his shows he says "You think you're free? Try going somewhere without money.". Also, I don't care what anyone says, Hicks was unironically based and I always love Hicks no matter what. Hicks's iconic "It's just a ride" speech genuinely saved my life more than once.
>and religious people
Again, where did you get this from you moron? Hicks believed in at least some conception of God, like me. I easily rate Hicks above any comedian alive today.

Almost as bad as the time he said Sandy Hook was fake.
>Sandy Hook was fake
Uhh wtf? You deserve to pay literally $100M for even having that thought.
Play with fire, get burned.
Carlin, Bill Hicks, and Doug Stanhope are the unholy trinity of pretentious, self-righteous, hipster homosexuals that get off on the fumes of their own fake intellectualism.
I think he's great
Bill Hicks and George Carlin ruined comedy, I don't want to listen to some dude's lecture about society systems being bullshit
He's no Denis Leary
Back in his time religious people really did need to be taken down a few pegs, honestly. But shooting against poor people has never been okay.
That's a good point.
Yeah, fair enough.
Hasn't that crow basically just seemlessly assimilated into the Tea Party, and consequentially the MAGA/QAnon clique?
To an extent, yes. What's different is the level of influence and how they're regarded. These were people that could get shit banned and tv shows canceled all the while being taken very seriously. It's not easy to explain. Imagine a group of people got together and banned Halloween from your kid's grade school and then banned all non-Jesus Christmas iconography like Santa Claus a couple months later. You can't get the music you want to listen without driving 100 miles because no one will sell it. Is a censored version good enough? No? Get fricked we'll pray for you.
zoomies are all now unironic fundamentalist christians and neo-nazis. your comment is considered woke to them.
nobody hates bill hicks. they just hate a highly implausible extrapolation of bill hicks being alive in 2024 doing the same act he did in the 80s.
i wish i was dead bill hicks
Lazy, fat, dead bill hicks.
For me? It's Ninja Bachelor Party.
Stand up is for homosexuals like OP.
Alex Jones never said that
For me, its Eddie Murphy Raw and Richard Pryor
This thread is brought to you by the same people who do this for Carlin.
Seems they want to get the community hivemind to just dismiss them. Which means their voices are still a threat to the status quo to this day.
That much is evident.
carlin isnt funny though, my dad gave me class clown for my birthday said it was the funniest album he ever had. shit you not the first 20 minutes is him making fart noises into the mic.
Carlin is hilarious, but that's definitely not the album I would recommend someone.
Humor doesn't age well you fricking homosexual. How fricking young are you to have not figured that out by now?
Also, suck my dick.
he had some good bits.
I liked the Doug Stanhope newswipe vids
>le intellectual comedian
Tell some jokes clown
>hahaha, frick poor people
Are you fricking kidding me, where did you get this from you moron? Hicks was sympathetic to poor people, that's why in one of his shows he says "You think you're free? Try going somewhere without money.". Also, I don't care what anyone says, Hicks was unironically based and I always love Hicks no matter what. Hicks's iconic "It's just a ride" speech genuinely saved my life more than once.
>and religious people
Again, where did you get this from you moron? Hicks believed in at least some conception of God, like me. I easily rate Hicks above any comedian alive today.
Hicks hated evangelists.
