I think they way she did it is fine. But yeah, every time I do a reread it's glaringly obvious that they story would have been five times better if they had at least one fricking friend in Slytherin.

JK Rowling has mentioned that she's not a fan of fantasy and thinks of the HP series as a children's story. A person that likes and grew up reading and watching fantasy, cartoons, and comics would have written it like that. To me the most obvious solution that wouldn't change the plot or outcome of the story would be to have made Luna Lovegood a Slytherin. It would have fit perfectly into the world building and story. The perfect character that wouldn't have been too Slytherin for their own good, would even give the other Slytherins and Snape a reason to sneer at her. And her being an outcast would have allowed her to be trusted enough to join Dumbledore's Army.
And Draco would be a girl that bullies and has has a crush on Harry (me)

The tv series is, if anything, probably going to be closer to the books than the old movies. I don't see it reimagining them in any meaningful way.
