My dad worked nights and lorded over the television all damn day. Every summer break he would torture me with that old black and white shit. Now it's my favorite and I torture my gf with old shit.
Andy Griffith and leave it to beaver if you want super wholesome
Green acres, Beverly hillbillies, Lucy if you want more adult comedy
Perry Mason, Gunsmoke if you want drama
I'm 37, this is back in the 90s cable days.

>that time sonny thought he killed a kid >spent the entire episode borderline suicidal >reconnects with his son >very somber and reflect episode >previous episode was a comedic one about a reggae singer who tried to cryogenically freeze himself
The tone is all over the place
Generally, I disagree. Older TV series were mostly very formulaic, disposably episodic, often corny, did not reward close attention, had poor production values, and prior to the late 90s or so were almost entirely barred from including any edgy content. That doesn't mean it's all bad, but the best stuff produced from the late 90s onward blows the old school stuff out of the water.
The best older movies, on the other hand, can be and often are timeless.
Legend of the Galactic Heroes

Why do old movies hold up so much better than old TV shows?
eh? lots of great series with proper full seasons are excellent and very watchable.
