Arnie was always going to get pigeonholed due to his size and goofy enunciation. He's just not the sort of guy you can put in a dramatic role. But that's true of pretty much every action star. Even Stallone, who most people respect as a a legit actor wiht some range, would never get the DDL / Brad Pitt roles.
But in a way that's what makes Arnold's resume so impressive. He did ONLY genre shit but did it so well they transcended the genre itself and became Iconic without qualification. T2 didn't just do well for an action movie, it was a success by any standard. People's moms went to see that shit. Arnold was so fricking kino he made a niche genre mainstream.

The Terminator 2 is a legitimate contender for greatest action movie ever made. It will be remembered for decades, long after Arnold is dead. What movie will Dwayne Johnson be remembered for? Please. I like him as an actor, he has a certain charm that is fun to have, but he lacks that extra star power that Schwarzenegger had and I don't think he will ever have it. We will see.
Arnie is only a movie success because he came out in the right time and worked with the right people, if he came out now he'd have just as much of a tough time as The Rock does. The big muscly action star is no longer a thing, modern action stars are John Wick everyday man looking people.
