When it used to pop up on late night TV back in the day it was good to watch because every episode was kind of self contained.
Can you imagine if they made Oz now? Every jogger and beaner would be wrongfully incarcerated by on their way to classes at MIT. Prison rape scenes would have to be romanticized It would be so hilariously awful it might be good.
It would be the wet dream of every liberal politician in the country to make a show like Oz nowadays.

I'm pretty sure the body of that guard was never even found, somehow. I certainly don't remember there being any follow-up on a particularly brutal murder of a CO.
The age pills stuff is heavily exaggerated. The concept that instead of actually living X year sentence, you could take a pill that would age you by that amount of years is obviously very moronic but I don't think you're supposed to think it's a smart idea as iirc the prison is getting paid to test the pills, they've made dumber decisions in the past that doesn't seem to care about the well being of the prisoners. Literally nothing comes of the pills, other than the moron o'reilly having greying hair and looking sick which is reverted when he gets off the pills
That just makes it even stupider.

It’s a story about the prison system, so I expect it to have some realism. Michael from LOST keeps making statements about the American prison system as if they’re profound but OZ is cartoon shit
They're profound though.
The first 2 seasons were legitimately good, Beecher’s turn was well done and so was the rivalry between Said and McManus
Oz is very entertaining. It's not a smart show but the characters more than make up for any inconsistencies with logic or plot. It's set up is also fairly unique.
If you can't find entertainment in that, then you're either a boring homosexual or are too up your own ass to enjoy something that doesn't try to take itself seriously.
the first season up to the end of the prison riot in season 2 is pretty good, maybe even great. after that it becomes soap opera trash.

Probably? I know heroin is still used as a pain medication for some stuff in the UK. Probably not what I'd choose if I had to slice my gums off, but better than aspirin.
I liked it but it's not a show I'd ever recommend or watch again.
Beecher's redemption arc was pretty nice as well.
I had so little access to sexy stuff when it aired that I jerked off to that scene where the ugly mannish female guard jerks off the dude in the bath and then electrocutes him.
