so your dad ruined your genetic line for you but made you more tolerable to be around? not sure if that is based or not, or what it would be based on

                Anonymous

Well the thing is my guy, life is really complicated and you can't just view romantic relationships and having a family through the lens of what someone can materially offer you and your lineage. Sometimes things just work out differently than the technical "optimal" choice, and honestly, from the kind of person my mom was there was simply no other option and given her disposition it probably was the best option. Intelligence isn't everything and I've frankly got plenty of it and having super intuition the likes of which only the truly creative/imaginative will understand coupled with a deep natural understanding of how people work and feel is a very potent combination no matter which way you slice it. I wouldn't say I'm more tolerable to be around necessarily, depending on who you ask I'm a total ass hole or an extremely cool guy, but I understand people in a way that frankly I know almost no one else does. I've never met someone like me before, and that's not just egotistical delusion. I'm genuinely just one of god's prototypes and I'm totally comfortable with that.

                Anonymous

It's a curse for sure and the more you have of it the worse it can potentially be, but that's only if you aren't able to use it for the good of yourself and others. You need the disposition to be a benefit to anyone to go along with it, otherwise you will languish the squalor of self pity and lament.

It’s because niggs and poos and chinks have had population explosions and the vast numbers of low iqs have simply taken an even larger majority of the global population

      >inb4 chinese test scores at their like two prestigious schools
Chinks primary cultural value is cheating. Cheating isn’t even an unspoken rule in china it’s a spoken and shouted from the rooftops rule.
Ask yourself, besides gunpowder, and definite props to chinks for that, what of your daily use technological advances that you rely on day to day came from China? That’s right none.
Don’t get me started on poos and joggers. Additionally all the inbred muzzies throughout central and Western Asia are also idiots and they overpopulate as well.

Tldr whites don’t have enough children to impact global numbers and they are the only ones who contribute to civilizational progress due to their inherent high iqs

I remember studying history around that time. My course was full of white girls who seemed permanently pissed off that 99% of what they had to study was to do with men. They were always going on about women in history and their influence. (fricking lmao) This was also the first time I experienced moralising in academic history. Before then, I didn’t think that anyone judged historical figures by our current modern day standards. I was so wrong.

Looking back a lot of this was about 8 years ago and it was an elite university, so when you see some article in a lefty journal about how white man bad and we need to tear down his statue, they probably went to uni with me.

        Anonymous

NTA but the real morons think american public high schools are real vigorous tests of intelligence. High schools are moron machines and I consistently hear about very intelligent, accomplished, and skillful people who are dropouts. Also it's consistently morons with no taste in art that describe everything obscure or everything their brains can't fathom as "pretentious". It's like clockwork.

Most of the time I hear people calling something pretentious, it's because of something like that one porn chick's video where she's squatting naked over a canvas dropping eggs out of her vegana and peeing a little bit. A not-so-out-there example would be that dude who flings paint and sells his paintings for obscene amounts of money to vain rich people. But maybe that's selective memory because I'm so used to tuning out people chimping out with buzzwords on here.

Yeah, it's the same chick who did that video where she's standing around in public with a box hung around her waist which has a cloth-covered opening over her crotch, letting strangers come up and finger her a bit. M-something. Moira maybe, IDR. It's been posted on here hundreds of times, maybe not Cinemaphile but other boards.

The most intelligent/adult thing you can do is appreciate different movies for what they are. It's okay to enjoy capeshit for what it is (blockbuster popcorn flicks), and then watch old/black-and-white/whatever the frick 'pretentious' movie you want and enjoy them for whatever they are trying to accomplish.

          >The most intelligent/adult thing you can do is appreciate different movies for what they are.
It's even more intelligent to see the objective quality in a film. Sure you can enjoy crap and have your guilty pleasures, but if you think they're good just because you like them, you're dumb.
I've seen so many pseuds trying to justify why some old artsy b/w movie is supposedly good but with no actual arguments, it's sad. And I say this as someone who generally appreciates classic movies, I'm just not duped by literal pretentiousness.

You can recognize objective quality, realize that not everything is a fricking masterpiece, and adjust your expectations accordingly. It's not "I like this so it's good", it's "I know that this isn't good, but I can still get some enjoyment out of it." Sure there are moves that are just flat out 'bad' but most aren't like that.

Fair enough. My pet peeve is just people who praise some typical arthouse fare for being different, when much of it just plainly not very good and was just hyped up over time for whatever reason.

Honestly, I sort of get it. Like, I am an ESL and I achieved my current grasp on English not just because formal education didn't care for English classes, but specifically because no one forced me to just get good at it. I got internet, got bored of it because there was no content in my language and started chatting people overseas, and it snowballed from there. So, when I see film school students sighing about studying films they have to study in the program, I sort of get that contrarian impulse that might have nothing to do with movie itself. If person isn't interested in studying Orson Welles I think there are plenty of other classics to study from and take valuable lessons for the kind of movie kid wants to make.

This I don't get, it's one thing when you are forced to study something, but it's entirely other thing to just be confused how someone chooses to spend their leisure time. Like, yeah, classic movies hold up, watch Kurosawa those are great movies, watch Glengarry Glen Ross, watch one of my favorite movies Paper Moon, if not the favorite one, it had no technical limitation to be white and black but it chose to do that.

I wasn’t a film student, but there was a film club at my uni and I met a lot of cool people there, though some were admittedly turbo autists. No need to suffer fools or suffer what’s in front of you, expand your circle, go out and join different clubs and be yourself. Vertigo was my second Hitchwiener, first one was Birds.
I knew it was some conspiracy created by the husband because he tells the ex-cop he got the job thanks to the wife (I think the company was owned by her family). There is an old book I had to read at school were something similar happens, but it was a house and a small store built with the help of the woman.

My first was Psycho and Vertigo was my second too. But again Psycho is probably one of Hitchwiener's most famous and parodied films so it wasn't as suspenseful to me. The reveal/twist in Vertigo happens almost too quick to process, when you see what actually happened at the top of the bell tower. And I didn't actually clock that Judy and Madeline were the same actress at first either. Maybe I'm just dumb/slow but it makes for a satisfying second watch anyway.

Sometimes it's because the film was the first to do something so naturally watching it in the present day you're going to have a different experience watching it than someone decades ago would. Like you're not going to coom over a shot showing a ceiling in Citizen Kane without any context.

I dont know man, i just thought it was a very boring movie with mediocre acting, same goes for Rope, both kind of blend together for me as just very boring mystery films. I saw The Seventh Seal. from around the same time and it thought it was a masterpiece.

I don't think you really start to appreciate "masterpieces" until you've seen so many movies that you start being able to predict stuff that happens in films you're seeing for the first time. Stuff like:
            >car chase
            >"We've got company!"
            and
            >"oh no! I've got two dates on the same night... in the same restaurant!"
            and
            >"3...2...1... jumpscare."
When everything becomes predictable these "boring" films become a lot more interesting, because they're stylistically different. At least that's how I feel.

the film students are bad but a lot of teachers are equally moronic
      >took an intro to film class for an easy A, about 100 students
      >failed actress milf professor is talking about directing actors
      >shows a clip from oceans 11 "this director does a good job juggling all the stars personalities"
      >shows a clip from magic mike "this director has no idea what they're doing"
      >raise my hand while she's talking
      >"you know both of your examples are steven soderbergh, right?"
      >a few students laugh, she stares blankly for a second before saying "i had no idea" and moving on
most film professors are dumbass failures who get off on having an assistant grip credit on some one season sitcom 20 years ago. the only film classes worth taking are tiny lectures about hyperspecific subjects

The oldest movie he'd seen was top gun and he thought blade runner was too old and slow.
Everything was too boring, subtitled or violent.

159 IQ. Never attended college. Never finished high school. For me growing up was a hobbesian type of existence, where every kid in my classroom didn't want to be there, couldn't be taught and didn't want to learn and hated anybody that did. I was constantly bullied and picked on for being smart to point of where I had to become a bully myself just to survive. I did alot of damage.

Now that I'm adult, I would like to think this sort of behavior is no longer prevalent among people but it does set a precedent. You can see it with what type of music what type of movies, what type of tv shows, even sport drives today's culture. Popular mainstream music is just spoken word recorded over top of simple four by four beat (Rap), popular tv shows and movies are all straight forward formulaic three acts dramas, and most popular sport is simple game of five on five basketball (NBA).

This is culture that we now live in. This is what the constant dumbing down of a country gets you and why we are now fricked as species. Everything you ever loved, all great art, film, music, sport, literature and television may never of existed at all because to vast majority of people out there it's like it never did in first place. It's also why I have no hope for future as I remember what was it like growing up. These types of people have destroyed everything.

      >If you want to learn
This reveals you have no idea why smart people like what they like. They don't like it because they are learning something. It could be that the work has more depth which the smart people instantly understand but the normies have to take the time to "learn" in order to process more information that's less familiar. Where you have to learn to keep up I've already understood.

I hate being stupid. Like I want to be an intelligent person - I try to read as much as possible. But I just seem to keep constantly tripping over myself and questioning every opinion I have on life. I feel completely lost and I watch other people excel in specific areas and I want nothing more than to be that person. It bothers me. I actually TRY to be intelligent but everytime I look back on waht I said or how I said it I cringe internally. I yearn to be smart but I think my IQ is more or less 100. I feel stupid when I read things that other people seem to be able comprehend quickly. I think living as a stupid person is real suffering. I know tehy say smart people are less happy compared to the stupid but it seems to me that it's much more fulfilling to be intelligent than to be happy.

The American cut isn't terrible, but the worst part of it is that it spoils the ending of the movie by moving the destroyed Tokyo panning shot to the very beginning. I guess pretty much everyone more or less knows what the plot of Godzilla is now though anyway.

Fun fact: The Japanese version of Godzilla 1954 is one of the only three Godzilla movies that shows booba (topless granny on one of the island scenes kek). It's one of those "if you blink, you'll miss it" things. The other two are a brief shot of a pinup/nudie magazine in Godzilla vs Megalon, and the prosthetic android boobs in Terror of Mechagodzilla.

Am I the only one who was actually alive during the 90s and 2000s. No one talked about film like they do together. One of the most discussed films in High School was fricking Scary Movie and Napoleon Dynamite. People almost NEVER talked about directors much less writers and cinematographers.

Movie IQ got higher, not lower, even for capeshit consoomers.

few people still actually discuss technical aspects of a movie. most people just parrot some youtuber opinion or nitpick irrelevant details. at least midwits limited themselves at saying they liked or not the movie, now they act like they know shit

Yep, most of my friends who have never seen a Letterboxd or Youtube film essay in their life have extremely varied movie tastes instead of just all Lynch or all Lars von Trier. One of my friends favorite movies is My Cousin Vinny, There Will Be Blood, Take Shelter, and Captain America 2. People in real life just watch movies and enjoy them, this media culture war doesn't exist outside of Twitter.

That guy got ripped to shreds so hard he started talking about how he was going to kill himself and it was everyone else's fault for making fun of him.

As a recovering zoomer, I have to admit that I had to essentially "train my brain" to enjoy and appreciate older films. I still get this uncomfortable feeling in the pit of my stomach when I watch black and white films, like there's something better I could be doing with my time, but I keep at it. It really is just being ADD and ADHD addled that's the issue, most people can't do anything that's remotely outside their comfort zone, and the comfort zone they've been trained into for the last 20 years is CGI capeshit. Deep down, I think that very few young people actually WANT to be this way, they all want to broaden their horizons and experience stuff that's older and a tad more sophisticated. But they're hampered down by what's become an Instinct of sorts that guides them back towards modernity whenever they stray too far from the fold. It isn't really instinct, of course, it's an entirely artificial notion. But it's just as real as if it were an instinct.

to be fair it's not really just a zoomer issue. I'm a millennial and grew up watching older movies because I was raised on westerns and universal monsters, and all my friends around me as a kid thought I was crazy for actually enjoying watching old black and white movies. some of my friends have kids who still love the old shit, it's the same as it ever was, a lot of people only like what's contemporary for them, some people can watch anything.

    Honestly, I can relate.

For the better part of a decade, I exposed myself to classic & critically acclaimed films. Started with Casablanca when I was 18, from then on, I watched Scarface, Citizen Kane, 2001, Pulp Fiction, Saving Private Ryan, Blues Brothers, basically every film that I only knew from pop culture references. After finishing Apocalypse Now at age 27 & hating it, I gave up.

I loved or liked some of them, but most of these movies, I was bored watching them, loathed or didn't care about the characters, etc. Honestly, I just wasn't having fun watching these films, nor did I understand why people held them to such a high pedestal. No, I never went to film school, so I couldn't appreciate things only film nerds would notice, but as someone who tries his best to enjoy movies in general, I couldn't get into them.

I should mention, for reference, that I am 31 years old. Before I get accusations of being a "zoomer."
