Will it be a new origin story moved to the present day? Or will they go though the process of an existing Agent getting told 'Your name is now 'James Bond'?"
It'll be disappointing either way. It'll either be a beautifully done period piece but with modern sensibilities in its politics and casting or it'll just be modern day shit. I honestly see no reason in them continuing the Craig run with another "James Bond". I mean, the name itself would carry so much infamy in the criminal underworld it'll cease to be a name any spy would use.
Bond isn't a regular spy, he's not even a spy. He's a 00, the highest tier of agent. Him being infamous actually works in that he's so efficient and undefeatable that he doesn't need covers or to misdirect. It's not a mistake or a plot hole, it's intentionally written that way. He's the MI6's best man and pseudo-mascot. It works if you make a bit of a Batman figure, like a villain knowing his time is up once he hears of Bond asking around for him.
