They keep shouting for him to "hold the door" so they can escape, which effects him in the past and fricks his brain up. Hold the door eventually turns into "Hodor."
One of the protags travels back in time and makes an otherwise healthy kid moronic solely for the purpose of having him be a doorstop one time in adulthood. It's laughable.
