They already did this. Producers admit they made a mistake changing Freddy’s iconic look. It’s going to be impossible to redo without Englund. No actor wants to copy another actors performance. But changing Freddy be like changing Michale Myers mask to a clown mask. Or Jason’s Hockey mask to a something else

We're in a weird zone where we kinda know that no one else other than Englund can do it but now he's starting to get on in years and frankly a bunch of the legacy horror franchises are in a weird spot at the moment save for Chucky because the original creators kept a vice grip on him.
In a post-Englund world, perish the thought, the way to go would be more survivor oriented Dream Warriors type shit, it would be aping Stranger Things, so you might need to wait a little bit and do it differently enough where people can recognise the distinction. I just really love the Dream Warriors, bros.

There is still a frickload of potential for A Nightmare on Elm Street, there are so many things you can do with dreams. Englund isn’t necessary at all, they can reinvent Freddy by making him more of a spirit that doesn’t reveal his true form often. As long as they have a direction that’s colorful and creative then they can easily revive the series

Also, there are many different types of horror that you can do with ANOES. Everyone has different fears and these fears can be shown in the dreams of different people. There is a lot of diversity you can have with the concept but the franchise is just dead
Stranger Things is the one ripping off everything else. A good reboot of Nightmare can feel fresh compared to the shit that show does
patrician taste. Were I to pitch a reboot, its Dream warriors style, age them down a tad for more empathy in suicidal thoughts, toss in a nurse Ratchet villian in the real world. Uniroincally can go pretty deep between the meaning of whats real by having the kids a super ego form against freddy and battle but fragile in the real world.

The ambiguity of his guilt of crimes in life lent itself well to the overall characterization. A child murderer/rapist coming back from the dead to just wipe out all the children isn't very interesting. A man wrongly accused and then murdered horribly, thus becoming a gleeful child torturer and murderer allows the audience to not only root for him but against him.

In The Dream Child Freddy's own mother says he's a bastard child from rape and an evil frick. In Freddy's Dead his daughter literally sees him kill her mom because she figured out what he was up to. Literally nowhere has it ever been indicated that he was anything but a cruel murderer and guilty of everything he was accused of. The whole fricking intro to Freddy vs Jason is him talking about what he did before and after he died.
