> They're just waiting for enough time to pass to hard reboot it. Give it 2-4 years.
They already did this. Producers admit they made a mistake changing Freddy’s iconic look. It’s going to be impossible to redo without Englund. No actor wants to copy another actors performance. But changing Freddy be like changing Michale Myers mask to a clown mask. Or Jason’s Hockey mask to a something else
>No actor wants to copy another actors performance.
While it might not be anyones highest dream, I'm sure there some actors who are fans who would be willing to try to copy it. I'm sure it will happen eventually.
We're in a weird zone where we kinda know that no one else other than Englund can do it but now he's starting to get on in years and frankly a bunch of the legacy horror franchises are in a weird spot at the moment save for Chucky because the original creators kept a vice grip on him.
In a post-Englund world, perish the thought, the way to go would be more survivor oriented Dream Warriors type shit, it would be aping Stranger Things, so you might need to wait a little bit and do it differently enough where people can recognise the distinction. I just really love the Dream Warriors, bros.
There is still a frickload of potential for A Nightmare on Elm Street, there are so many things you can do with dreams. Englund isn’t necessary at all, they can reinvent Freddy by making him more of a spirit that doesn’t reveal his true form often. As long as they have a direction that’s colorful and creative then they can easily revive the series
Also, there are many different types of horror that you can do with ANOES. Everyone has different fears and these fears can be shown in the dreams of different people. There is a lot of diversity you can have with the concept but the franchise is just dead
patrician taste. Were I to pitch a reboot, its Dream warriors style, age them down a tad for more empathy in suicidal thoughts, toss in a nurse Ratchet villian in the real world. Uniroincally can go pretty deep between the meaning of whats real by having the kids a super ego form against freddy and battle but fragile in the real world.
>Craven always intended for him to be a diddler
This. >but execs didn't outright let the series say it until the later movies
As far as I recal it was only ever implied in the original series still. But it was quite obvious.
the second one was dominated by its gay subtext, I think it matters what age you watched Freddy first. When he wasnt a meme and true horror, probably would enjoy a serious take. Now, hes basically a parody of the slasher genre
He was also acquitted of being a child serial killer and we know he was one

Then allow me to elaborate, even though its obvious to anyone with a white IQ.
The ambiguity of his guilt of crimes in life lent itself well to the overall characterization. A child murderer/rapist coming back from the dead to just wipe out all the children isn't very interesting. A man wrongly accused and then murdered horribly, thus becoming a gleeful child torturer and murderer allows the audience to not only root for him but against him.

In The Dream Child Freddy's own mother says he's a bastard child from rape and an evil frick. In Freddy's Dead his daughter literally sees him kill her mom because she figured out what he was up to. Literally nowhere has it ever been indicated that he was anything but a cruel murderer and guilty of everything he was accused of. The whole fricking intro to Freddy vs Jason is him talking about what he did before and after he died.

Literally no one has ever assumed Freddy was anything but a child killer before the remake brought it up as a plot
You can laugh with someone who wants to kill kids (after all, think of the shitbags we want to murder reading about them here on Cinemaphile), But you can't laugh with someone who fricks kids then kills them.
Yes, there have been some property rights issues with the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. The original film was released in 1984, and the rights to the franchise were initially owned by New Line Cinema. However, the copyright to the first film reverted back to Wes Craven's estate in 2019, after 35 years. This means that the estate now has the right to produce new films, television shows, and other merchandise based on the first film.
The rights to the remaining films in the franchise are still owned by New Line Cinema. However, there is some uncertainty about who owns the rights to the character of Freddy Krueger. In 2018, Victor Miller, the writer of the Friday the 13th franchise, was able to regain the rights to his story after 35 years. This led to some speculation that Wes Craven's estate could also regain the rights to Freddy Krueger. However, it is not yet clear whether this will happen.
The property rights issues surrounding the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise are complex and ongoing. It is possible that there will be further legal challenges in the future. However, for now, the Wes Craven estate has the right to produce new content based on the first film.
this baffling horrific input. Considering its easy peasy to pozz the cast. Freddy was an implied pedo for the truly desperate for a connection. The reboot was trash
Cope. Freddy was always based on pedos, they only hid it because they figured it would be too controversial in the original. Once he became such a popular character they dropped it due to mass appeal. Once in Freddy vs Jason they brought it back in subtext.
depends on the viewers lens, young and not aware of the pedo cult, he was just a murderer, sure its clear subtext to an adult. It still doesnt change the entire greentext is a wrong assesment on why they dont make any more
>hate and enjoyed slaughtered
interesting take, i see that as Jason trait or a more fitting for that IP, bc the body count is kinda the draw. Freddy needs to drop the Elmwood centric focus and expand into maybe a spirit of freddy or some occult shit gone wrong
i really just want freddy to try and cut some kids head off, come up with a hand full of that gay zoomer hair, then get disgusted and wash his claws in a sink
It was never explicitly stated in the movies but you could basically come to the conclusion that he was, I think the ambiguity adds a lot of sexual tension especially with the shit with him licking Nancy
Yeah I too wonder how come this IP hasn't been raped yet. Maybe movies like F13, Leprechaun and NoES got a reboot too early to make another adapted to modern audiences.
i'm so glad they stopped making those movies. it became very clear after the 3rd or 4th one that they were just having fun with them and it's the type of fun you can't have anymore without some c**t exec grilling a writing team about the broad appeal of the franchise and other associated homosexualry
i need to see freddy calling zoomer trannies by their original names and turning himself in a hotter passing version of them in their dreams just to make them suicidal
[...]
[...] >"Welcome to your safe space, snowflake! AHAHAHA!!"
I'd like to see Freddy enter the nightmare of a fedora-tipper and torment him with the simple reasoning that, if Freddie exists, the afterlife must exist too. He could show the atheist visions of Christopher Hitchens screaming in the flames of Hell and begging God's forgiveness.

The most recent Nightmare on Elm Street came out more than a year after the most recent Friday the 13th, though. I remember Rooney Mara talking shit about how she regretted starring in the remake.
Because it sucked and Robert England doesn't want to play knife glove fredster anymore. Nightmare on Elm Street has had a short but good run and like Friday the 13th it should stay dead.
because it's played out, do something new
That makes no sense, that has never stopped anyone.
How come a new Halloween hasn't been announced?
They're just waiting for enough time to pass to hard reboot it. Give it 2-4 years.

I was talking about Halloween in that comment tho
Another Halloween reboot? Nooooooo
Sorry abon, its going to happen
Thayer have a sequel with Danielle Harris back as Jamie and Robert Englund as Loomis
I wouldn't be surprised it that happens. If its successful it will get a trilogy too, then they reboot full stop.

No clue, Hollywood is going to miss its chance if it doesnt do it soon
They fricked up by changing him from a child killer to a child fricker.
He was always a pedo, all serial killers of kids are pedos, they just didn't make it obvious in the original so it flew over peoples heads
You never go full moron.
I guess making it text and not subtext filters a lot of people
No, don't do that, anon. Nightmare fans really hate thinking that they're favorite slasher character is a pedo.
Even though it's true.
You can laugh with someone who wants to kill kids (after all, think of the shitbags we want to murder reading about them here on Cinemaphile), But you can't laugh with someone who fricks kids then kills them.
>I kidnap kids and lock them in my boiler room
>... to murder yeah I never touched them that's awful!
you sound like a Kubric furry trying to understand a Tarantino toesucker.
Yeah it made him way too relatable
They fricked up by making a shitty remake that was boring. No one should care that much if Freddy fingers them before killing them.
this
its bad for the agenda
What agenda is there in depicting a fictional demonic child killer as a pedophile or not?
I think there's some weird rights issue
Pretty sure that was with Friday, I don't think there are any rights issues with Nightmare

Wow this is complete news to me, wonder why it hasn't been super publicized like the Friday thing
I read some article about it I think people are wary of doing anything with it because of this
What a bummer
>Victor Miller, the writer of the Friday the 13th franchise
he wrote the screenplay for the first movie only
>main character is a pedo who get killed and turns from groomer to killer
>not very inclusive
sadly this is actually the reason and no longer a joke.
What? He sounds very much like the face of the troony movement.
That makes no sense
this baffling horrific input. Considering its easy peasy to pozz the cast. Freddy was an implied pedo for the truly desperate for a connection. The reboot was trash

Freddy is a children's character. It's tough to make R rated children's movies in this day and age. You could only get away with that shit in the 80s.
You might have a point. But It worked out
>Freddy is a children's character.
I loved freddy as a kid. tons of white people did.
What a moronic and half-naked comment.
>kids can't like horror things, they're rated R!!
brownoid moment. loved hellraiser too as a kid.
I'm glad they haven't. The first three Nightmare on Elm Streets and Freddy Vs Jason are good but everything else in the franchise sucks.
Thats most horror franchises
fred is supposed to be scary and evil, but you enjoy watching him kill people because he's funny and creative about it
turning him into a literal pedo makes it so you can't cheer him on anymore.
the original was obviously also a pedo, but they didn't show his shoe box of child porn, so it was still something you could joke about
like how friends can joke about each other being pedos, but you wouldn't actually associate with a guy who got busted for CP
another reboot is needed,
this time with teenagers that the audiance would hate and enjoy seeing slaughtered.
>hate and enjoyed slaughtered
interesting take, i see that as Jason trait or a more fitting for that IP, bc the body count is kinda the draw. Freddy needs to drop the Elmwood centric focus and expand into maybe a spirit of freddy or some occult shit gone wrong

How is being a child murderer any worse than being a child rapist
we've all wanted to kill someone
its relatable
no one wants to relate to a diddler
without checking im assuming he wasnt a full blown pedo due to MPAA more than anything
It was never explicitly stated in the movies but you could basically come to the conclusion that he was, I think the ambiguity adds a lot of sexual tension especially with the shit with him licking Nancy
Yeah he acts like an uber creep towards her
Dumb take, he was always a child rapist and people watched 10 movies in a row.
Want to know why the Freddy franchise is sleeping? Because the most recent one was GARBAGE that took itself too seriously.
Mostly correct. The main reason the franchise is sleeping is rights issues and worry about who will play Freddy.
Freddy is a character that belongs in the 80's. They tried to make it again in 2010. It failed. Simple as that.
Yeah I too wonder how come this IP hasn't been raped yet. Maybe movies like F13, Leprechaun and NoES got a reboot too early to make another adapted to modern audiences.
It worked for Halloween
i'm so glad they stopped making those movies. it became very clear after the 3rd or 4th one that they were just having fun with them and it's the type of fun you can't have anymore without some c**t exec grilling a writing team about the broad appeal of the franchise and other associated homosexualry
It would work as a streaming show
I'd like a tv series more than a reboot I think.
random but I read in a book recently that Nolan was influenced by Freddy's Nightmares to make Inception
Same
because freddy got fingered
They were all new when they came out anon
How many child killers aren't also diddling them?they seem to go hand in hand.
The real reason is Freddy is a pedo and there’s an effort being made to not depict pedos as scum
No there isn't
Freddy Krueger is the son of a Catholic
Of course he loves raping kids
Sounds perfect for a troony to play him in the reboot.
Well Freddy has turned into a woman on multiple occasions
Richard Brake. New Freddy. Thoughts?
He looks the part, but I'm not sure I've seen him in anything.
Man, Powerball drawings in the states look kino.
I don't want another reboot, I want a sequel with Alice.
because freddy making fun of zoomers while killing them in ironic ways would trigger a lot of lefties
No it wouldn't
>NOOO! YOU CAN'T JUST PREY ON MY INNERMOST INSECURITIES AND THEN USE THEM TO KILL ME IN A SARDONIC FASHION!
Thank god anons don't write movies
i need to see freddy calling zoomer trannies by their original names and turning himself in a hotter passing version of them in their dreams just to make them suicidal
I'd like to see Freddy enter the nightmare of a fedora-tipper and torment him with the simple reasoning that, if Freddie exists, the afterlife must exist too. He could show the atheist visions of Christopher Hitchens screaming in the flames of Hell and begging God's forgiveness.
