where are the jokes?
how about they BARRY this show in the ground already
what was that weird fricking hank storyline too? i get that the wife was trying to shock the gay out of him but holy shit that ending sucked
I really hoped it was a hallucination/dream sequence until it was obvious that it wasn't
so unbelievably homosexual
i hate to say it unironically, but it start insisting on itself far too hard. the violence should have been kept light-hearted, and Barry's character should be written as the more realistic kind of sociopath with no real capacity for remorse. Would be funnier and cut out most of the worst of the show.
You know what it's like when a dumb person writes an intelligent character and it's obviously off? Barry's character feels like a psycho badass written by a pussy.
The writers have said they decided to jump the horse from comedy to drama. The fence sitting of tone was fascinating in its own right, where you'd get lines of dialogue that apply to the self-absorbed arts but comedically reflect Barry's struggle, but it seems to be going through a later seasons of M*A*S*H type of thing now.
I'm still loving it, but I get that a shift like that could be jarring for some. I'm in it for what shenanigans pic rel is gonna pull next.
My favorite line from this show will always be Fuches laughing at Stovka after he said he was 45 and Fuches immediately putting on a serious face going "okay, okay, I know one gal..."
I sort of forgot about the older, legendary assassin being this warped, broken man who misses his family.
It's nice that they've been warning us about Barry for a while.
Way too serious and the mob sidestory sucked.
This was the last season right?
Season 4 was confirmed, with Bill Hader directing every episode. Not sure what's left to do with Barry since they got him now.
Prison episodes? Prison escape? Therapy? They blame everything on Fuches? Barry becomes an assassin for the CIA? Gene does a play? Laura San Giacomo does a topless scene?
i'm guessing the asian fbi guy will pull some strings.
I like him and hope he comes back, but it seemed like they were just trying to use his character as the only person in the series who actually forgave the real Barry.
can they even pin anything on barry? fuches claimed he's the raven and was the one telling both gene and jim that barry killed janice
Brandishing a weapon and attempted murder if they go for that route. Given a big theme of the show is him just falling further and further while never getting caught, it's definitely possible.
brandishing follows the same rules as assault, you can't exactly threaten someone silently from behind where they can't see. attempted murder relies on the gun being loaded when last time it was seen gene dropped the bullets all over.
I'm not big into the lawyer stuff so I'll take your word on it, but they could also probably argue something to the effect of him believing Jim was blackmailing Gene and his intentions were pure. Which, in his own fricked up way, they are. But at the same time do you think they would pass up him and Fuches seeing eachother in prison? Could be kino.
he gets aggravated assault at most. the show doesn't really do realistic consequences for illegal shit and shows cops as extremely incompetent so I wouldn't be surprised if he just gets off somehow. or its a few episodes with him and fuches in prison
Barry's a luck god he'll walk somehow
Victor Zsasz breaks himself into jail Prison Break style with all the tattoos but hijinks occur and he and Barry get raped throughout.
Fonzie says heeeeeey, shouldn't have killed my monkey girlfriend.
Barry's annoying c**t girlfriend starts making shitty productions in Missouri.
The Raven goes and lives in a farm.
Le fin...
You jest but I sincerely hope they have Sally scenes about trying to start another fricking show.
Like I get that her killing someone is a game changer and we can't just drop the character, but with the direction the tone has taken, please GOD tell me we're done with the BanShe morons.
This feels the most likely.
*don't have Sally scenes
*I MEANT DON'T FRICK
>Like I get that her killing someone is a game changer and we can't just drop the character
she got a taste for blood and is off to kill sam
That would be far too problematic and kino for the writers to do
> newsradio reference
kino.
I think it went too fast, too many main characters for a 30 minute runtime
Yeah the runtime really hurts the show at this stage. It was good at first but there is too much happening at once now.
Probably. Shes basically been faking being a strong independent woman and now she knows she can actually do something real about it. I doubt she just straight up kills him but there will be some confrontation.
Get back in the trunk Cinemaphile
>buys him Burger King to eat in the trunk
I know it went darker and more serious but people who say there were no good jokes this season are shitters
that was like the only joke besides the sleeping dart one.
I'm not gonna throw a whole list at you, but a lot of the Police Captain's dialogue seemed to be the levity too. There were times I also found myself laughing at the dark stuff in a black comedy kind of way, like when Gene is freaking out and his suitcases explode.
the scene with gene running through the lesbian's yard was pitch perfect
>i don't understand why you're leaving me
>you have too many dogs
this was something out of a shitty early 90s flick
>>buys him Burger King to eat in the trunk
There's nothing funny about poisoning an old man
>Uses Gene's money and hands him the change
There were some funny moments this season, but overall all of the storylines just felt so meandering and pointless. Like they have all these great, beloved characters but they do absolutely nothing. And I don't understand why the writers decided to do everything in their power to make us completely hate Sally.
she was a total piece of shit since the beginning
The whole story arc with the tv producers and showrunners took up way too much time. Feels like the writers of the show was just circlejerking some inside jokes that no one really cares about. Made the rest feel kinda rushed.
Which job do you take Cinemaphile
de boss
consogme?
de boss can sok me
>serial killers are bad, m'kay?
TV doesn't know how to write a villain protagonist
Barry isn't a serial killer or a villain.
Fuches, if anyone, is the villain.
He's A killer, and we can't portray Dexters Walts and Davids winning on TV.
Killer, sure. But not serial.
And if he had no soul like Fuches, he could "win" with all his killing, but he has one. So being a killer isn't sustainable. I don't really see your argument.
>people who do bad things on tv get punished, always
>the show is about a guy who does a bad thing
>I THOUGHT the charm of the show was watching this bad guy try to reinvent himself
>the writers are telling us its really just a show about how you'll never come back from your past mistakes
>this thread is about why the third season was lack luster
>I'm trying to say the show betrayed what it was about, IMO
He's trying to come back from his mistakes by murdering more and more people.
Albert basically gave him the forgiveness he wanted and he still went after Moss.
I agree that the story has strayed from being about acting to a wienerup cascade. But like a drunk fat man once said, if you want a happy ending, it depends where you end your story.
There's a difference between coming back from your mistake of being an butthole, and coming back from your mistake of being a murderer. Gene got his redemption, Sally will eventually redeem herself, but Barry will always be a piece of shit and it would be wrong to try to act differently.
>Sally will eventually redeem herself
She's traveling to Joplin with the intention of killing her ex
Watching Sally get choked was kino
you can only push a premise so far. 3 seasons is far too long without bringing anything fresh/new to the table.
I felt the exact opposite.
Cant wait for season 4 in jail & noho hank and cristobal taking over the world
YOU GOTTA TELL ME RIGHT NOW BARRY
WHY CHRIS?
HE WAS A SWEETHEART HE LOOKED UP TO YOU
TELL ME RIGHT NOW
DON'T JUST FRICKING SIT THERE YOU FRICKING TELL ME
>I know where i'm going after I die
Afterlife and supernatural elements confirmed
Hallucinations of a guilty man. But I like the idea that it isn't necessarily "Hell", since they've avoided saying it.
Maybe it's somewhere worse.
>Hallucinations of a guilty man.
I know this is probably the case but i hope it's not, or it at least leaves room for plausibility like the Sopranos.
>Maybe it's somewhere worse.
Banks of Jordan? Hades?
Cleveland.
WHY'D YOU JUST SAY THAT?
great scene
I like this character
it had to be a hallucination on acccount of Gene and Sally being there, don't you think?
>the writers are telling us its really just a show about how you'll never come back from your past mistakes
I don't think that's true. barry's morality is still all fricked up, so he can't come back yet. sure, he feels guilty, and he wants to make things right with the people he wronged, but he isn't willing to face any consequences. from the show's perspective, Barry should be thinking like Chris did in the scene where Barry kills him -- he should realize that he NEEDS to face the music.
The second one was a hallucination (representing his subconscious belief that he's turning Gene and Sally into worse people)
The first is up for interpretation
was getting sick of gen until i mrealize this is the last episode of the season if he will become famous after this & a hero then i good with him coming back
Does anyone listen to Hader on the Prestige TV podcast? Dude sounds genuinely depressed.
hopefully he's just tired from working so much but he also works in pedowood so it wouldn't surprise me.
He was asked if he thought the season was too bleak, and responded something like ‘if you think this is bleak go watch the news’ which seems like a terrible way to think about a television show. Like homie that’s why I don’t watch the news.
Ep 6 was kino
Ep 7 was a bit of a lull
Ep 8 was just grim
Apparently s4 was written during the pandemic, so clearly there’s some plan.
the season 3 finale has got to be one of the single worst things I have ever witness, the absolute egregious change of tone and style from the first 2 seasons is astonishing, the writers literally had to go out of their way to frick up this fricking hard yet they somehow managed it, the downfall of this show over a single season has been monumental. If they do not do a complete 180 and turn the tone back to that of season 1 this show is done for
>Show develops and grows and stays true to where the story was headed
>Cinemaphile complains
Like clockwork
The story in no way at all needed to head that way, the frick are you talking about, they had a million different outs they could've taken with the story. Not to mention the random tonal shift and for what reason exactly ? clearly the show didnt benefit from it.
It absolutely did after Season 2. Barry needed this emotional low point, I don't know why you think this is somehow out of character for him or the show. It wasn't a random tonal shift, it's literally the logical progression from Season 2
How can Cinemaphile love BCS but hate Barry? Makes no sense.
It started shit and only got better
I liked it better when it was a comedy.
Season 3 was by far the funniest season though, maybe not minute to minute but all the jokes they pulled were genuinely great
Honest question where are you on the spectrum.
I didn't laugh a single time during the entire show
I like where it's headed now
The problem is the entire concept of the show; assassin doing assassin things but the killings can’t be funny. There’s only one direction that can go, which is the overly heavy dreary show we have now.
>but the killings can’t be funny
Did you just forget the bomb, or the suicide bomber, or the fricking bikers
wew
show jumped the shark when the wolf girl sat on the roof for 8 hours. wtf were they thinking.
this season had many stupid moments too. some good stuff, some interesting stuff...but ultimately fell short
that episode was fricking abysmal
season 2 episode 5
Highest rated episode of the entire series. Who’s in the wrong here?
>Highest rated episode of the entire series
bullshit, people liked that shit?
9.8 on IMDB
welp, after this season I'm not watching this shit over the initial release schedule anymore. too fricking annoying being drip fed 30 minute episodes for zero fricking payoff
>REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
frick he basically did, didn't he?
>Le season 3 goes DARK
Moral Orel and its consequences have been a disaster for television.
This season lost the tone balance fir sure.. too depressing.
Too much shit was happening in the season.
>Fuches goes to a farm twice
>That lesbo chick who was a focal point but then fricked off nowhere to be seen (glad she was gone but she was unneeded altogether)
>The mom and son who were planning to kill Barry but then she shot her kid and they disappeared, not even confirming if he died
I hope for this show's sake that Hader can get HBO to give them a 44 min runtime (minimum) because holy shit. It wasn't that bad in seasons 1 and 2 but it's clear that they are stuffing too much with little breathing room. And with only 8 fricking episodes.
Yeah the runtime and season limits are noticeably stifling the pacing
this season was all reactive. dealing with the aftermath of Janice and Ryan's deaths was a waste because we never cared about those characters. so Ryan and Janice's fathers having these emotional scenes where they lament their losses was boring as frick because the show was never about them
they should have written new adventures for Barry instead of rehashing past events
>we never cared about those characters
It's about how Barry, Gene, and Sally deal with the consequences of what Barry did you absolute brainlet.
and it was terrible television
Exactly and it’s all because Hader believes it has to be real and honest. Like no it really doesn’t. It has to be interesting and entertaining.
>real and honest
this show is the antithesis of real
It was great, get over yourself
Hader can put together a strong vignette here or there but that's all he seems capable of, doesn't have the discipline or autism to put together an entire season. Show also stopped being funny, I would not have predicted Sally would have the storyline with the most laughs.
>Show also stopped being funny
No it didn't, pretty much every episode besides the last use a lot of dark humor
>doesn't have the discipline or autism
This show and the MC is incredibly autistic.
I do the head slapping sometimes. Is that weird?
Breaking bad tier show (it’s bad )
Why does HBO put zero effort in this show? They don't market it at all. Season 2 was pretty popular on account of Ronnie/lily being in a popular time slot, why'd they piss it away? Is it not hitting the right taste clusters?
HBO treats its comedies poorly. This could also be a factor into Barry's tonal shift this season
>Why does HBO put zero effort in this show?
Off topic but why don't HBO release their shit in 4K?
Concept sounds good, but I was out of it by the 3rd episode.
am I insane or is there someone in the shadows of the last shot with the black guy, like moving in the background and then the FAINTEST HINT of someone entering from the left frame?
Knowing how fricking stupid the plot is getting it wouldn't shock me if Janice survived or some shit. Reminder that she wasn't in Barry's near death afterlife.
could be true, we didn't see a body
