I don't know. There isn't even a really distinct aesthetic associated with it.

Is that even happening? I mean sure, zoomers on social media are engaging in it but I don't think I've seen much mainstream media trying to recapture the essence of the 2000s

Shoe brand I work for already moving from late 00's designs to early 10's, though it feels like early to mid 90's still the most popular.

Early to mid 90s has actually had a bit of a resurgence with Gen Z lately, I think they're interested by it because it's the last period of culture before they were born. Been seeing a lot of love for music and styles from that era.

      Azumanga > Yotsuba

Yotsuba has certainly taken it easy in SoL town for years and years, forgetting its secondary cast. It might be reviviing a little.

To be fair to Yotsuba, it never stood as much of a chance with me personally, Chiyo was the least interesting character in Azu, so having a series focused around a character of a similar age and removing the school framing, not as much appeal

Chiyo was 10 was Azumanga started (it's interesting how she looks and acts differently at the end when she's 13). Yotsuba is 5 (still; ~six months have passed since the series started).

It’s more about how they act than their actual age

I like both but I kind of like yotsuba more, it felt like there was more going on in terms of character dynamics and scenarios, at least in the earlier chapters. Most of the jokes and characters Azu don’t really do it for me especially with the school setting. The 4koma is better than the anime anyways

As far as I can tell they were still latching onto the 80s, did we even have a 90s revival?

There was a brief 90s revival in the early 10s and a few other attempts spattered about it, but the 80s always kept pushing it back down. I'm so fricking sick of 80s nostalgia it's unreal, that shit's been going on since the early 00s now.

Bad. They hire people who know of the shows, but inevitably end up hating the characters or some fundamental aspect of what made the original show work.
