the kung fu panda trilogy is honestly solid for what it is. People hate the second one, but its lows lead to the 3rds resolution. They're not perfect films by any means, but KP1 stands firmly on its legs allowing 2-3 to kinda hop, equating a solid afternoon of animated animal hijinx. Especially compared to how bad animated sequels typically were, changing voice actors, cheaper studios, possibly not even releasing in theatres.

This ruined the movie and the entire franchise. Having Po do absolutely nothing to advance himself in any of the movies and magically having the miraculous solution fall literally into his lap every time is ludicrous, and the dragon scroll being just a euphemism for believing in yourself was a real narrative let down. Tai Lung is also a terrible antagonist. His story is more sympathetic than Po's is, even after that they shoehorned in a deliberate character assassination by having him attack a village for no reason whatsoever.

Shen returns to his city full of pride, yet his parents are horrified. They banish both him and the wolves from the city forever. Shen swears revenge : someday he would return and China would bow before him. Shen's parents eventually die of broken heart for banishing their son and a council of Kung Fu masters take over the city. Shen and his wolves spend the next 30 years stealing metal to build cannons which shoot fireworks via gunpowder. Eventually, they return to Gongmen City, use a cannon to murder the leader of the council, imprison the other two council members, force the still alive soothsayer to hang out with them, and plan to somehow conquer China using a fleet of boats carrying those cannons (Shen wants that year to be "the year of the peawiener"). He ends up being defeated by the panda which soothsayer foretold would defeat him, who survived the genocide as a baby and became a Kung Fu warrior as an adult (after being raised by a goose who knew nothing about where he came from). Panda easily destroys all the cannons by redirecting their shots towards the boats carrying them, making them explode. Shen is accidentally crushed to death by one of the cannons, while wolves are killed due to being on the exploding boats
