he designed all the gods and their relationships with each other, he is responsible for the pre apocalypse part of the back story. I don't even care about this fat frick but it's dishonest to say his writing wasn't a massive part of the game.
I got every achievement in Elden Ring and don't know the slightest thing about the story. Never read items, skipped all cutscenes and looked at my smartphone whenever someone was talking.
obviously he wanted to hone the skills it requires to beat a single player hack and slash game. God forbid he doesnt have the skills to take on the next game that WANTS you to beat it so it can tell a story
If he ever finishes them, the next books won't sell anywhere near as well as they would have before the TV show fricked the brand but that's his own fault for being a lazy slow fat frick
Looks like fans finally realized that George Is a hack and won’t finish the series. Oh well, I’m sure he’ll put some pointless world history on ASOIAF that no one cares about
I knew he isn't going to finish the series, but I used to think he'll finish fricking Winds. It's been 11 fricking years, and all he has to show for it is the material he cut from Dance.
I love this ending for George. Never did a man so much deserve his legacy of piss and shit. >writes the series because "the good guy doesn't always win" >"oh no! people want Jon Snow to win...I know, I'll kill him! Hah! life is not like the songs, readers!" >Has no clue how to climax and conclude the series, so people stop caring >allows HBO/D&D to ruin the story and legacy >w-why don't people like my stories anymore? s-shae, pls help
This overgrown man baby should have realized you can depict a realistic, tragic story that retains themes of heroism, valor, honor and that these ideals triumph over the nihilism, laziness and shock schlock present in his abortion of a series.
>"oh no! people want Jon Snow to win...I know, I'll kill him!
Jonn Snow obviously isn't going to die, he's one of the three main characters along with Daenerys and Tyrion.
The prolog to Book #5 with Varamyr Sixskins slowly dying and looking to find a human body to transfer his soul/spirt into and ending up having to setting for his wolf, was included to explain the process of warging and show how Jon Snow will come back after his assassination by his brothers of the Nights Watch;
WunWun spazzing out
Jon Snow stabbed to death
His body put in an ice cell while the Nights Watch tries to calm things down
Meanwhile, his soul/spirt will have warged into Ghost
Once things are settled, a funeral pyre will be prepared for his body
Just before lighting the flames, Melisandre will give Jon the R’hllorian death ritual final kiss
Jon's soul/spirt will be pulled back into his body and he'll miraculously come back to life
Everybody is shocked as frick
GRRM never finishes the story
Not enough. I'm still bitter over getting invested in the characters he doesn't give a shit about.
i wonder if the TV ending had some similarities with his planned ending, but he is butthurt that it was so poorly received so now he's at a crossroads of whether he just releases it and be done with it or rewrites everything

I still think the only way his story would have a real twist is if it's a non-main character like Stannis who ends up on the Iron Throne through sheer stubbornness and sacrifice. He's one of the only characters to have a real arc of growth as a person too.
i wonder if the TV ending had some similarities with his planned ending, but he is butthurt that it was so poorly received so now he's at a crossroads of whether he just releases it and be done with it or rewrites everything

I'd say Daenerys will die in the end and probably by Jon Snow's hand and she'll inadvertently nuke Kingslanding due to all the wildfire stashed everywhere, after going to war against nephew fAegon for control of the Iron Throne.
fAegon plot has been hinted at in the books since Bran’s first green dream and Danny’s visions in the House of the Undying. Dan and Deebie are just lazy israelites who consolidated the shit out of plot lines because they’re lazy and wanted more screen time for meme dwarf and Grey Worm to stare at Missandei (who are extremely minor characters in the book)
fAegon is absolutely integral to the plot with Daenerys. Excluding him (and replacing him with Cersei, I suspect) completely butchered the Dany storyline. He was never going to be king, or at least for long, but he will be a catalyst for some massive shit that is about to go down.
Wish he just came out and said he gave up on finishing everything and instead just making excuses and dragging the fans along. It’s clear he doesn’t know how to finish the story. AFFC and ADWD were bloated with all sorts of stuff and he doesn’t know how to tie everything up. World of ASOIAF became too big for him and he caught up in too much worldbuilding. There’s a reason why he wrote to history books filled with details that won’t end up mattering instead. Shit, ADWD literally has a whole page dedicated to Tyrion describing turtles, fricking turtles. George has long described himself as a writer that doesn’t plan anything out
Didn't he say that, once he died, he would leave instructions to destroy every note and script so as to no one could finish his series? Or am I misremembering?
Supposedly but regardless of his wishes, his wife automatically inherits his estate and can do as she pleases and odds are GRRM received all kinda advance payments from his publisher, who will have a contractual right to finish the story with a ghost writer.
I doubt he's had any substantia advances, considering how much he's made. He reached the levlel where he didn't need advances to live on while writing, especially after the HBO deal. He probably swapped advances for a bigger percentage of sales. And, rights to ghostwrite something after an author dies is unheard of in the publishing industry.
And, his wife gets everything, if he leaves it all to her. He could put the IP in a trust, that she's the benificary of, or donate his files and such to a university. Nobody will know until, his heart explodes while patting some nerd chicks ass at a convention while keking.
>You want to tell new stories, not tell the same stories over and over again
But they are telling the same stories over and over again, they just replace a beloved character with some ugly black woman.
>which means there should be enough fire-breathing and aerial battles for even the most hard-to-please fan
Imagine thinking the problem with the show was "not enuff dwagon".
Notice they said Star Trek fans hate Star Trek, and Tolkien fans hate Rings of Power, not Tolkien fans hate Tolkien. Star Trek always had several writers. Tolkien's work was one man's brainchild.
Why don’t these people understand that being a fan of something means you DONT want them to continue to dump more and more shit into the universe. All these stories being turned into brands and continuous universes to sell product in was the worst thing to happen to fiction. Good stories deserve endings

There’s still room to end the series with heroic themes. Not that he’ll ever finish it.
Even if they were for some planned later payoff, 4 was where he started adding characters that I didn't care about who didn't do anything that seemed to matter and without whom the rest of the book would have been more enjoyable. On a book-by-book basis, it was not as good as the first three.
quentyn was a big timesink but i think he was there firstly to provide another pov for slavers bay and that war, but also to establish dornes machinations. Dorne and the fake dragon are gonna decimate highgarden and the lannisters will rise again to take them down just in time for long night to start and dany and jon to reocmbine whats left of the northern powers after stannis and the vale suicide into each other
So, what do all those channels whose content primarily focus on the show and books discuss now? Did they all just fade away? What does Westeros forum talk about now, I’m sure they’ve managed to create every theory possible
Easily. Everything and everyone I hate I used to love. Things and people that I never loved, I don't truly hate. At worst, I just have a distaste for them. You need a pretty decent level of investment to develop genuine hate. It's either something you used to love, or something that threatens the things and people you love currently.
>move into new apartment few years ago >meet next door neighbors >they have a young daughter that they've named Daenerys >"we just love the show, haven't read the books whose got that kind of time? lol!" >few weeks later finale airs >don't see them for a while >finally see them like a month later >insist that their daughter is named Daniella
Imagine the finale being the moment where they change their minds, when Daenerys in the show was fricking and sucking off some greasy horselord since Season 1 lol.
His books are a window to a fleshed out world, the story itself doesn't need an ending. That's life. We live a short time, too short to learn everything or see the ultimate fate of human kind.
Scaremongering with the word "nuclear" just lines the pockets of Big Coal. Regardless of the outcome, you will always be a golem to rich business owners.
When he announced he was going to release his 7th book in 2020
there was this article that had him say they could lock him away until he had finished.. winds of winter? i think it is
And i decided to start reading so i could catch up before it was released
I read A game of Thrones entirely in 2019 and then lost it at A clash of Kings
so i still haven't progressed past 200 pages of it even though i kind of like it, but i won't want to force myself reading it without feeling like continuing
And i keep on being hopeful i actually will get through all 6 before he releases it
Am i going to make i, even taking all my sweet-ass time, or nah?
Wrong. He SAYS he began writing it, but that's a lie. Literally all he has shown for it (the "previews") were just cut content from Dance and even those previews are no longer canon. You need to accept that the fat frick hasn't written a single word for Winds and never will.
I gave up on him too by now. And I held out for a while.
Though, people were already screaming at him to finish the books before he “dies” like, 2 years after Dance came out. Some of the fans are just fricking moronic buttholes that probably broke his spirit.
I know he's a famous billionaire by this point and has no reason to even get out of bed since he's literally won at life, but don't you think there's some small part of him that's ashamed for not finishing his art? Even if you don't give a shit about the fans, don't you owe it to the characters? To yourself?
>his art
Perhaps he had a moment of clarity, and now recognises his own work as trashy pulp shit.
The kind of people who read it would have been his biggest clue.
I haven't read the books, and I only watched like 3 or 4 seasons of the show, but my theory is that he CAN'T finish the story because of Jon and Dany.
He set out to write a Machiavellian, "realist" plot in a fantasy setting, but against his wishes, the machinery of the story inevitably produced two genuinely idealistic and heroic characters — Jon and Dany (I know they are flawed, but still in many ways they are classical heroes).
This has put Martin in an inescapable bind: he can't give these heroic characters a properly satisfying heroic ending, because that would go against his nihilistic philosophy, his "realism" which he imagines is the heart and soul of the books. So he's stuck between ending the story poorly while staying true to his philosophy, or giving the story a true epic-heroic conclusion and betraying his worldview.
He simply doesn't know what to do. If Jon and Dany didn't come out of the story, and Tyrion remained the most central character, he would have finished the books ages ago. I think he's genuinely upset and confused that he accidentally wrote two heroes despite himself.
Martin set out to subvert fantasy, but in the end fantasy (with its inherently heroic-mythic character) subverted Martin. Tolkien bros, we absolutely won.
That only makes her a fallen hero or anti-hero. The fact is she has the moral vision and great ambition of a classical hero, even if she fails in her quest. She's not a vulgar minded cynic like Tyrion (clearly Martin's favourite character).
Again, even if you're right about that, the fact that she's willing to make such a bold stand is evidence of a heroic character, even if she's corrupt on a deeper level.
she only wanted to do it out of profound egotism and self-aggrandizing hubris, without literally any consideration for the horrible consequences
she did it to feel good

That's hubris, the mark of a classical tragic hero.

She saw slaves suffering and decided she wanted to help them. Her flaw was that she didn't properly consider the legal and economic implications of instantly uprooting systems that have supported civilizations for thousands of years with no practical ideas about how to replace them.
That makes her naive, not evil or egotistical.
are you illiterates unaware of the thing called "God complex"?

She's a POV character. We literally read her mind when we read the book and we can see for a fact that she is deeply bothered by the suffering of innocents, especially slaves, and wants to free them and create a world where everyone can be safe and happy.
You're the only one with a complex here. A complex that drives you to take straight forward information we've all known for decades, look at it and say "AKCHEWALLY, Danny is EVIL and INSANE and I'M the only one who's smart enough to see it, unlike you IDIOTS. God I'm so much smarter than everyone else around me"

I'm convinced it's not that he just can't or isn't trying to write, it's that he can't figure out exactly how he wants to make all the moving pieces of the story fit together. He tries rewriting a small part in an early chapter, but that requires him to then go through the entire rest of the book to make sure the change fits, which then requires more changes in turn, which require even more changes in turn, and by the end he's already had another idea and needs to go back and change something else early in the story too and the process repeats.
The book is technically finished, but trapped in an endless revision and re-writing hell. It could be released right now if he really wanted but he just can't get it to feel right.
I don't get why people seethe so much, ever since they stopped following the books the story improved and shit actually started happening.
The best episodes is when they defend from Blue Zombies and then escape via boat, and that has nothing to do with the main story either.
Story of the books was boring as frick before d&d had stuff happen.
Like most boomers, he can't handle that people on the internet speculate on his works. He thinks his ideas are Super Special since he made so much money from them so when someone on reddit guesses his plot he throws a temper tantrum and refuses to finish what he started.
what did he think was going to happen? he abandoned his only big success before finishing it and left 2 israeli Hollywood writers to fill in the ending.

Then why did he give this quote?
Because he has to at least pretend he still cares. Kind of like how he pretends he hasn't finished Winds of Winter.

what would be the consequence of not pretending?
nerd rage

what he said, but replace "fans" with "writers and producers"
he can't understand how people who like tolkien wouldn't like fanfiction commissioned by the people who brought some intellectual property rights.

The books are still good and I don't think anyone thinks otherwise. Only thing that sucks is that the fat frick is never gonna finish Winds of Winter.
>The books are still good and I don't think anyone thinks otherwise.
Apart from, you know, literate people.
The first three books are still some of my favorites.
And what other favourites do you have? Post for keks.
His books are a window to a fleshed out world, the story itself doesn't need an ending. That's life. We live a short time, too short to learn everything or see the ultimate fate of human kind.
>or see the ultimate fate of human kind.
I think you might be wrong on that count.
I don't count my soul being summoned to fight along side Jesus and the Heavenly Host as part of my lifetime.
I was thinking more along the lines of nuclear apocalypse.
He is never going to write another book. He hasn't even started Winds yet and he's just stalling and waiting for his death.
he began writing it like 5 years ago
Wrong. He SAYS he began writing it, but that's a lie. Literally all he has shown for it (the "previews") were just cut content from Dance and even those previews are no longer canon. You need to accept that the fat frick hasn't written a single word for Winds and never will.
reminder that prestonjacobs is making a winds of winter fanfiction project
did he recover from that weird meltdown he was having about people mocking Corlys Velaryon for being cast with a black actor?
never seen the meltdown is it on one of his livestreams?
link to meltdown?
I'm not angry at you George.
I'm just disappointed.
>A Dance with Dragons
>It's a chapter not set in the North
Nobody ever loved you, Fat ass. They simply liked the story you stopped telling half way through.
>George RR Martin can't understand one of the most basic sources of human drama
I believe it.
That sort of internal motivation and spirit is the complete antithesis of his entire being.
Finishing your work is a tired cliche he's all too happy to subvert
Kek
>his art
Perhaps he had a moment of clarity, and now recognises his own work as trashy pulp shit.
The kind of people who read it would have been his biggest clue.
He hasn't had children so he didn't gg yet
Tolkien bros, we absolutely won.
daenerys is literally the villain of the story idiot. The smartest 5% of the fanbase knew this years before the last season
That only makes her a fallen hero or anti-hero. The fact is she has the moral vision and great ambition of a classical hero, even if she fails in her quest. She's not a vulgar minded cynic like Tyrion (clearly Martin's favourite character).
wanting to abolish slavery is one of the most evil and destructive things a person could ever do
Again, even if you're right about that, the fact that she's willing to make such a bold stand is evidence of a heroic character, even if she's corrupt on a deeper level.
she only wanted to do it out of profound egotism and self-aggrandizing hubris, without literally any consideration for the horrible consequences
she did it to feel good
That's hubris, the mark of a classical tragic hero.
are you illiterates unaware of the thing called "God complex"?
She's a POV character. We literally read her mind when we read the book and we can see for a fact that she is deeply bothered by the suffering of innocents, especially slaves, and wants to free them and create a world where everyone can be safe and happy.
You're the only one with a complex here. A complex that drives you to take straight forward information we've all known for decades, look at it and say "AKCHEWALLY, Danny is EVIL and INSANE and I'M the only one who's smart enough to see it, unlike you IDIOTS. God I'm so much smarter than everyone else around me"
She saw slaves suffering and decided she wanted to help them. Her flaw was that she didn't properly consider the legal and economic implications of instantly uprooting systems that have supported civilizations for thousands of years with no practical ideas about how to replace them.
That makes her naive, not evil or egotistical.
It's good to see 13 year olds haven't changed.
Yeah they're still defending ASOIAF.
there is a thin line between hate and love Georgie
He realized he forgot to write any POV chapters in the Reach, so he's rewriting the entire thing.
Your sales can't nosedive if you never release new books
NOW I ADMIRE TOLKIEN I DO
SEDATE THAT homie
Poetry, since people who used to look down on the man as a result now admire Tolkien
maario naharis
soulless
I don't get why people seethe so much, ever since they stopped following the books the story improved and shit actually started happening.
The best episodes is when they defend from Blue Zombies and then escape via boat, and that has nothing to do with the main story either.
Story of the books was boring as frick before d&d had stuff happen.
Why doesn't he class action the studio? Unironically.
I don't understand what legal leg he would have to stand on.
If horrendously fricking up was actionable, studios would never make any adaption
any of you homosexuals that ever compared him favorably with Tolkien should, kindly, go play in traffic.
No one does, he's the one that forces it
Like most boomers, he can't handle that people on the internet speculate on his works. He thinks his ideas are Super Special since he made so much money from them so when someone on reddit guesses his plot he throws a temper tantrum and refuses to finish what he started.
What a dumb dumb dumb quote. The fiercest hate generally comes from betrayed love
