I frankly did not enjoy the first movie either beyond the night fury, the forbidden friendship and the final boss. The academy slapstick training while fun wasn't very great and the secondary characters were annoying and abysmal in the TV Show. The TV Show was exceptionally poorly written.
I was hoping the second movie to be more pure action and world design and lore dump that builds on the first movie's setting and elements like you usually expect out of sequels.
I was expecting a water adventure like they teased that 3 years when HTTYD 1 was first released, but I never expected the water dragon plot to be pure shit to the point it makes Ice Age look like a good series.
Was hoping for an Atlantis/Journey to the Center of the Earth tier adventure with The Croods level of journey and mini events going on.
The second film was so odd. Nothing felt properly developed, especially the villain.
Dreamworks doesn't try very hard when writing sequels. After Shrek 2 grossed almost one billion worldwide, they realized just how profitable CG sequels could be and stopped caring. Panda 2 and Dragon 2 were obviously written in a rush
Panda 2 was nothing but chase sequences and action sequences (without any of the direction the cool Tai Lung scenes had) followed by extremely slow as frick scenes.
HTTYD was terrible sequel wise because we had to wait 3 years for each movie to come out, it was garbage. I think we had to wait 2 years for the TV Show to come out only to wake up that in the first 3 episodes absolutely nothing happens and when they finally introduce a villain it's another shitty human and the series feels like any garbage toddler action adventure show like Master Raindrop.
Panda 2 is one of the worst CG films by a major studio imo. Between the thin story consisting only of chases, action and slow exposition, the painfully unfunny humor, the cliched "where did i come from?" drama, the bland villain that fails to awake sympathy, Po's antics not being endearing anymore, the awkwards tonal shifts, the rushed pacing (there is no build up), and the forced cliffhanger, it's a real dud
The last part where Po get blown up just so they can have that crappy backstory flashback and at the same time somehow the villain STILL didn't leave the main city despite already being on the ship was weird as hell.

Ice Age 3, Despicable Me 3, Madagascar 3 were good, especially Madagascar 3.
The entire Madagascar series was entirely carried by the Penguins, they are the only reason why I would ever tolerate watching a movie about a bunch of New Yorkers trying to get back to the 10th circle of hell they call home.
The tiny bits with the penguins were great, especially the christmas caper 15min special, however in the cartoon show and in their movie they sucked ass because morons didn't understand that rule of cool is more important than pathetic comedy.
Man I rewatched Christmas Caper hundreds of times as a kid cause of how much I loved it. I really was a Penguins autist back then.
In the movie they weren't as pathetic as they were in the cartoon show despite whatever imbecile writer's attempt at dragging them down to make himself feel better with his donut steel OCs nobody cares about. I'm pretty sure the Penguins movie was sabotaged and those donut steel OCs were like Scrappy Doo aiming to be this pilot for a new series by dragging parasitic and dragging down lovable characters to make themselves look better.

The only decent Dreamworks cartoon show was Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, it wasn't great or anything but It was way better then the other ones. Every other Dreamworks cartoon was hot garbage.

I actually did think the first season was getting better towards the end. I have only watched a lilttle bit of Season 2 so far.
It was a disappointment for sure. The only reason I didn't dislike it more because Game of Thrones was a dumpster fire and this made me feel better seeing the characters get a happy ending.
