i have never seen such a smug, self absorbed movie in my life
i literally couldnt finish it, it feels like it's written by someone that thinks hes far more intelligent than he actually is
its like Tim and Eric humor with none of the honesty or charm

First Charlie Kaufman exposure?
Nobody tell him about Synechoche NY
Haven't seen BJM but Synecdoche has plenty of laugh out loud funny parts. Like the priest's speech at the funeral, how it goes from sad and real to overwrought and wavers between them from moment to moment. It's brilliant, although the performance could have more to do with that than the script.
It doesn't feel that way at all and you simply got filtered.
Is this the movie about the israeliteel thief?
In a way
No it’s about people who enjoy being John Malkovich
why are you watching movies and worrying about what the director meant. you woke up in the wild one day and used to take everything at face value. now youre filtering yourself from finding something good about the movies you find unpleasant by genuinely engaging with this phantom of a director conception youre so personally offended by. its all whispers in the woods, anon. things might not be what you think they are.
based surrealist input/output quality control sorter
You take things at face value as a baby because you literally know nothing, you are an randomly weighted collection of electrical signal processors attached to a screaming and shitting mechanism.
We can't even process the world to understand what we're seeing until we start to feel out what we're looking at.
You're advocating for viewing movies from the lens of a rock or a vegetable. If everyone watched movies this way, the takeaway would always be "I just watched a movie - there were lights and sound and moving colors".
maybe sexual puppet shows aren't for you
You’re moronic
Has anyone here ever read the original script for Being John Malkovich? The second half once Craig enters Malkovich is absolutely bizarre. Would've been awful on film. Feels like the sort of constraints on his work that were there earlier have been taken away as his career and profile have progressed and his work has suffered because of it.
QRD on what the script is like?
Also is that really true though? I thought I'm Thinking of Ending Things was highly regarded
>QRD on what the script is like?
Craig becomes famous for puppeteering Malkovich instead of Malkovich becoming a famous puppeteer. Then the group that were planning to inhabit Malkovich are actually lead by the Devil and Craig and his Malkovich puppet battle a giant fire breathing puppet operated by the Devil. It's weird.
>I thought I'm Thinking of Ending Things was highly regarded
All his stuff is highly regarded, I don't care what critics think, that's my own opinion. I think Kaufman is a great writer but like many I think he needs parameters and boundaries otherwise his head goes up his own ass.
>Craig and his Malkovich puppet battle a giant fire breathing puppet operated by the Devil.
WTF I want to see this
adaptation also got changed
I love Adaptation but funnily enough have never read the script. What got changed in it?
prime keener
Poor man's Jennifer Aniston. Still would though.
Why did she walk away from Craig when he told her he's a puppeteer?
You might have brain damage or something.
That was a fantastic movie.
>it feels like it's written by someone that thinks hes far more intelligent than he actually is
I don't understand how you felt that way about such a laid back movie.
That sounds more like you're insecure about your own intelligence.
zoomers really cant handle movies without the decompression of commercial breaks.
It’s literally a parody of self absorbed smugness. You have a sun 60 IQ if you couldn’t see that.
How
I see lots of self absorbed smugness but how is it 'parodying' that
Is it because it's vaguely self aware or something and therefore everything in it is beyond criticism
>it feels like it's written by someone that thinks hes far more intelligent than he actually is
Weird, that's the impression I got from your post, homosexual
>i literally couldnt finish it, it feels like it's written by someone that thinks hes far more intelligent than he actually is
Stopped reading here
pseuds mad itt
Good to see Kaufman likers in this thread.
Donald's movie is real
The israeliteeynes of israelites being israeliteey.
thats exactly what i thought from the moment it started
>this is israelite comedy isnt it
didnt even know it was written and directed by a israelite until later in lmao
Once you've seen enough of them, you can tell right away. It's like finding out what a serial killer found funny. It's morbid peeking into a demon's sense of humour
Kaufman is the only person whose films I'm actually afraid of watching. Still haven't worked up the nerve to watch Anomalisa and I'm Thinking of Ending Things. Being John Malkovich is a masterpiece. Also, I'm not smart enough for Synecdoche NY, I get some general themes but always get lost.
its a well made, competent film but its head is firmly up its own ass
Which one?
I liked I'm Thinking of Ending Things a lot
From what I've gathered it's supposed to be the pov of a suicidal loser full of regrets that eventually kills himself, right? Is it as bleak as it sounds?
Well for starters no that's not what it is
>talmudic incoherent anti logos
>i don't get it... it must be genius!
this is basically all 'intellectual' output for the last century
incoherent anti logos
At some point you have to understand that regardless of whether you're right or not, you come of as a schizo.
Anomalisa is probably his most accessible film.
No way. Eternal Sunshine is his most accessible. Maybe Adaptation. A lot of people are going to be put off from the pacing of Anomalisa, not to mention that it's with puppets, has an awkward and long sex scene and every character aside from two (intentionally) sound exactly the same.
Oh yeah I completely forgot Kaufman direct Eternal Sunshine lol
That being said I'd still put Anomalisa as "accessible" even if slightly, especially compared to Synedoche, ITOET and even Being John Malkovich.
>Oh yeah I completely forgot Kaufman direct Eternal Sunshine lol
But he didn't, he wrote it.
Ahem. Aren't you forgetting something?
it's a testament to the evil of judaism
>John Malkovich
is an unbearable homosexual so for that reason alone i would never watch it anyway, i mean this guy is born and raised american but speaks like he learned english yesterday, the reason is because he went to france for a few years, learnt french and now speaks english with a fake french accent, just to let everyone know that he can speak french. imagine being that way and not having the excuse that you are under the age of 7.
Kaufman is kino (except for I'm Thinking Of Ending Things).
I thought it was a fun ride and the elder cult was spooky kino
probably won't ever watch it again though
Adaptation was my favorite movie as a young adult, now it's A Serious Man.
I have a big nose but I swear I am not israeli.
