This is good thinking. 99% of Halo is just moving forward shooting no-name aliens. You can't make a show based on this, you need characters and story.

i swear a lot of writers have no regard for the source material of comics/games because they think it's beneath them. these homosexuals probably have delusions of writing something like the sopranos but get stuck making a product.

yeah, the difference is in the passion put by the people making it, which most modern shows have none of it, they are all made by the numbers and meant to appeal to the widest audience possible to make profit

      Anonymous

This is exactly it. All the streaming execs don't have any taste or know what people want so they grab something people already like. Video game, toy, book, comic, anime, whatever doesn't matter they only want the brand. Then they hire some straight out of college dei writers who don't know the source material and make their own shit OCs. They didn't actually want to make it and it shows. Look at Dune as a counter example you can tell Villeneuve waned to create it. It's not perfect but you can tell he loves the source material.

        Anonymous

what i got from his adaptation of dune is that he is a hack, i didnt got the impression that he loved the source material, he removed all the weird stuff that made the book unique

Definitely the biggest flaw of Villeneuve's dune. Going for a "realistic" looking dune is boring.

That's weird, Albert. You never talked about Dune back in college. I only remember you talking about Harry Potter or Nietszche or whatever large technical jargon heavy literature book was mentioned by the professors.

They check ESG boxes and the people signing their paychecks don't give a shit about the property, they care about being on all the lists of good investments that homosexuals like Blackrock maintain.

The show failed and the only people who suffered were the fans, and maybe the actors who had to read those asinine scripts.

It's nepotistic hires. They can't get hired on actual merit, so their own creations being shit means nobody wants to pick it up. As a result, they only get work based on nepotism (or diversity) to work on somebody else's creation, which engenders hatred, jealousy, and envy and often results in them attempting to turn that other thing into their (shit) thing.

    That's my theory anyway.

this is exactly what happens; writers try to shoehorn in their ideas instead of sticking to the plot. apparently that was the tension on the witcher; cavill insisted that it stick to the books and games but the stronk womyn writers wanted to tell their own stories

      Anonymous

Partly true. Every studio has an embedded clique, and they all have to be hired and given work to keep their loyalty and ensure everyone does their part to milk the company, and "diversity" is usually the glue holding it together. Until the early 2010s nepotism was considered unacceptable in all its forms, whether by white male "old boy's clubs" or by women and minorities. It still happened of course, but society at least tacitly accepted it was bad. Now it is considered socially acceptable, as long as they give some spiel about diversity, inclusion and representation or something.

Because they writers and actors know deep down that they're inferior and jealous of the actual art's creators, so the consciously and unconsciously vandalize it and/or cargo cult it. Primarily to soothe their ethno-narcissism, off-beat sex habits, and/or veganas.

I also should mention the ones that play the game well get rewarded.

D&D did a bunch of work-for-hire on shitty adaptations (like X-Men Origins) and after GoT could basically write their own check for any project they wanted. Until they rushed everything and GoT went to shit.

That's not even the worst of it, the biggest problem is their original ideas are usually just bad and so what you get is an IP you love adapted with ideas that wouldn't have been enjoyable on their own in the first place.

  20. 3 months ago

Directors not really liking the original source material they got saddled with adapting isn't new.
A lot of adaptations were made by directors that were at best neutral towards the source material, and many diverge so much that it is clear the director had little respect for it at all.
Take "The Shining", you think that Kubrick actually liked the book, given how much he changed from it? Or "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep", vs Bladerunner.

The real difference here isn't just a dislike or ignoring of the source material, but a proud contrarianism towards it.
That happened in the past, like Starship Troopers, but I think the proudly juvenile writing-from-resentment style that is popular today makes it more obvious and obnoxious.

these are losers who are nearly 200k in debt from art school who think they're the next shakespeare. Imagine Cinemaphile trying to write a screenplay for Halo. Every pretentious whim would find its way in to mock and deconstruct the material. It appears only Japanese writers are willing to embrace the absurd. Arrogance is a poor substitute for skill.
