You mean like the box office returns of this movie?
$97 million worldwide against a $200 million production budget is just sad for a Pixar movie let alone one with Toy Story characters
>Insecure marxists who hate fun and want to make Important films.
yeah that perfectly summarized the direction they went with.
they were so focused on the lezbos kissing and implied turkey bastering in being done plot wise, that they haven't stopped and think that maybe, this film should've been more action/adventure sci-fi space roadtrip than what we ended up with. and maybe if someone did try to speak up, they would've called them a homophobe for not going through with their hour and 40 minute message.
man Pixar's been running on fumes, and now dumb ideologist wanting to spread their soapboxes through films with zero creative bone in their bodies have taken it's place.
So the black person and the little old person behind Buzz are the 2 women, I take it? And why do they all look like they're wearing Doomslayer armor? Why isn't Buzz also wearing that armor? Or why aren't they wearing the same suit he is?
Man, those toys are a blast from the past. I used to have a bunch of them, but I don't know if I ever had all the right parts. I think I mostly had the tail fin parts. Reminds me of those Inspector Gadget toys McDondalds used to do. I had a bunch of those as well, but yet again, I don't think I ever had all the parts.
They make lots of excuses to keep Buzz out of not wearing his classic outfit, of which he doesn't even get the REAL version until right before the end credits.
An Earth-based space exploration mission becoming a massive galaxy-spanning organization with deep space stations and becoming heavily integrated with alien member species is something that happens over two or three years, in the mind of the Cucksney apologist?
The "retcon" has nothing to do with when it's set, it that Lightyear (the movie) is now supposed to be what Buzz Lightyear (the toy) is based on. The opening of "The Adventure Begins" establishes that Toy Buzz is amazed at the existence of there being a movie about him, but it's the movie they're getting ready to watch, not Lightyear.
The movie doesn't make sense on it's own world since it claims to be a children's movie made in 1995 that Andy saw in theaters at the very first second of the entire thing, but then the director contradicts himself: > there was already a Buzz Lightyear spinoff in the form of the animated TV show, with Patrick Warburton having played the character instead of Tim Allen. Since you've worked with the franchise for so long, what was it like keeping that show in mind while you were also developing this film? >Angus MacLane: Well, that show was developed when we were doing Toy Story 2, and I always imagined that it was like the Ewoks or the Droids to the Star Wars universe. I feel like when they were making Return of the Jedi, they weren't thinking about Droids and they weren't thinking about Ewoks. So, that's about as much as I thought about it.
Then he claims Lightyear was made in the late 70s and Andy saw it on VHS rather than theaters
It's not even a retcon. I expected Lightyear to be one of those "live action" movies that later got rebooted into more kid-friendly cartoons, sometimes with barely anything to do with the original movie (looking at you, "Mighty Ducks"). Lo and behold, that's what the Lightyear director called it.
John Lasseter hates it, we don't know why exactly, but he was a powerful man and even after he's left Disney they have no intention of acknowledging Star Command.
John Lasseter hates it, we don't know why exactly, but he was a powerful man and even after he's left Disney they have no intention of acknowledging Star Command.
If they still haven't added this to Disney+ even though Lightyear is in theaters, then I guess they never will. I genuinely don't understand this, Disney is a corporation that cares about making money, why would they not put this movie and show on their streaming service so they'll make money off of it? It's like they want people to pirate it.
Pixar hated it, not Disney. To them it was a bitter reminder of the bad deal they made with Disney in their early days, where in return for distributing their movies, Disney would get full-ownership of the franchises Pixar created. Disney flexed this power by making the Buzz animated series without Pixar's involvement, and in return Pixar basically got bullied into doing the opening animations (which was the only part of the show/movie they were actually involved in).
OK, Pixar hated it then, but since Disney still owns the show, surely they could still put it on Disney+? Or does Pixar still hate it today so much that they asked Disney not not to and Disney decided to follow along to keep them happy?
>Zurg from the hit film Buzz Lightyear of Star Command rips NPC's out of their sleep and tortures them for answers on why his sequel is so shit (colorized)
>Or does Pixar still hate it today so much that they asked Disney not not to and Disney decided to follow along to keep them happy?
Pixar's old guard is mostly gone now except for a select few. But apparently from what other anons said in other threads Lasseter still holds some (albeit limited) power in Disney despite being publicly fired, so that's probably got something to do with it.
That's true, but it's certainly not out of the realm of possibility. John Lasseter was the chief creative officer for both Pixar and Disney Animation Studios, so he was high up on the company totem poll. For him to tell them "this is never seeing the light of day again" would be extremely easy.

the first 10 minutes of that opening scene was more Buzz Lightyear than the Lightyear movie.
showed my nephew the Cartoon movie after talking about how the Lightyear film is bombing and how the show was vastly superior and he enjoyed it!
he hasn't watched the Lightyear movie yet, but if he does, he'll probably see it's not even on par with what i showed him.
No? It’s like 20 years old, there’s nothing to talk about, no new art to post, no real source for new people to discover it. There’s a reason there aren’t many fans anymore. Nobody will mention it a week after the Lightyear movie is released on disney+
>screencap an alarm set for once a week every week for the next 6 years
I'm sure there's an app for that I'm looking because doing that manually would be a pain
A third grade edutainment game lmao. Pixar must have given the developers a decent Buzz model because everything else looks pretty much like you'd expect
why cant pixar just say that disney doesnt own the rights to the star command tv characters? why hasnt pixar taken legal action against disney, or better yet, turned the public against them? perhaps expose everything they have done in the past 50 years?
Because Disney always owned the rights to the Toy Story characters along with every other Pixar IP in the original five picture deal. That's how they were able to make the Star Command cartoon in the first place and it was why they were able to threaten Pixar with "We'll make our own shitty Toy Story 3 and Monsters Inc 2 if you quit on us and find a new distribution partner" and get them to merge.
then have pixar expose disney and get people to boycott disney parks and have them protest at the studios. get the pixar animators to finish the thief and the cobbler to piss disney off.
I just got back from seeing Lightyear, and it was very insulting.
During the entire film Buzz is emasculated as a failure, and he says so himself, how his best friend who happens to be a black lesbian, and who happens to also be a higher rank than him is better in every way. Also he was such a frick up that she was the reason he made it thru his training as a space ranger.
It's also not just a single scene of two lesbians kissing. The media is lying about that and trying to downplay it. So, like every time Buzz tests this hyper-drive system in the movie, he goes 4 years into the future, and each time he catches up with his black lesbian friend, and every time she announces again, and again that she's a lesbian. Did I forget to tell you she's a lesbian? Because the movie sure won't! The first time she announces how she got a ring and is going to marry her wife, and her and Buzz have a whole conversation about it. Next time she's having a baby, and then she has a kid, and it keeps going. And the movie never lets you forget about it and write it off as a small scene. They keep bringing up how she's a lesbian, even when Buzz meets her grand-daughter in the future, and she too starts bringing up how she had multiple grandmothers.
Oh! And it becomes a major plot-point to where she's Buzz's Ellie from the movie "UP," where Buzz is presented with the chance to save everyone after he stranded them and marooned on a barren planet, but it would mean changing time. And so doing would prevent his lesbian friend from getting gay married, and Buzz can't stand the idea of undoing the marriage, so he strands everyone. During this scene he even looks at a photo of his black lesbian friend too, to emphasize the point. In fact the whole reason Buzz and Zurg are fighting is, because they both want to help this black lesbian, and can't agree on the best way to do so.
Also at the end of the movie there's a cringy scene where he salutes the statue of the black lesbian.
Sure, but I'd want to use the arm laser as the main weapon, based off of how it was in the Toy Story 2 game from '99, with the charge shot. But seeing Buzz's face in the reflection would get old pretty fast. And I think I'd like it better as at least a Build engine game, since you could have Duke's jetpack
just wait till its on disney+ so more people can actually pirate the thing to watch it instead of just complaining about screenshots or webms
I really wish I could talk about the movie without the pol people getting worked up over it
The hatred has nothing to do with the lesbians no matter how hard you try to push that narrative, there's many people over the world used to that kind of stuff since anime has been doing it for decades now, most reviewers who went to see it just said it was too cliche, too boring and every latinamerican review I saw compared it negatively to the cartoon since that cartoon aired over here a lot back in the early 2000s and many really liked it, if you want a serious space drama do that and if you want a toddler's movie then do that, you can't half ass both and expect everyone to love it, pick one ad fully commit to it
I just got back from seeing Lightyear, and it was very insulting.

TV seemed more upset about the black rookie rather than the lesbians, anon
Okay but counterpoint:

To be fair we all know there was no need for Toy Story 4 or this movie, Toy Story 3 was the perfect ending but they keep milking this series in hopes of getting their pockets full of money, that's the very reason Disney choose this movie to be the return to cinemas rather than Turning Red as originally planned, they were sure it was going to be a smash hit due to the Toy Stiry brand

I actually do think Buzz Lightyear is a strong enough character to carry a sub-brand on his own. Thought so for decades.
Such a shame that they used the toy story brand so agressively to market the new movie because I think it ends up being a detriment to the films potential staying power. If we DO eventually get to the point where there are three Lightyear sequels, a video game, and a tv show, the last thing anybody's going to want to be thinking about is the fact that it's technically a toy story spinoff

classic toy buzz works better as a 3d model and a character. no idea why they took a campy cartoon parody character and tried making it into a pseudo-realistic "he's just a guy like everyone else" schtick when that was the entire arc of his fricking character in Toy Story is accepting he's a toy and not the character or cartoon he's based on. He has more depth and emotion as a fricking toy than a human and THAT is fricking uncanny. It's not just taking away the chin spiral or forcing buzz to take off his purple space hijab. No. This problem is the dismantling of a character's fricking soul to take away all the pride and coolness and campy fun and replace it with a hollow shell of a man filled with the ideals of side characters.
Frick you Warp, I know you're behind this you fiend.
The reviews themselves have nothing to do with it, but the vitriolic celebration of it's failure does.
The fact that you can't enter any Lightyear thread without the text spammer showing up to tell you how much he hated black lesbians is what makes it impossible to discuss. Not the mediocrity of the movie itself.
I had the movie on VHS but never saw a single episode of the show. I did have the PS1 game though, and that had clips from it. There was an energy vampire and a bigger, meaner X-R style robot and some kind of cyborg werewolf, cool shit.
The show had Warburton planned because Allen didn't want to, but after a while(and the success of Toy Story 2) Allen eventually agreed to do the special VHS movie.
Sox was 1000 times more marketable than any other character in the movie, you're telling me they didn't make any plushies or toys of the cute comic relief robot cat?
Blame Disney for the inconsistency. Mind you by the 2010s (ts3/4) buzz is still popular. Well popular enough to have a kids meal toy of him

I think that instead of making Lightyear the "original" film that inspired the toys (and TV show I guess), they should've established Buzz Lightyear is already a franchise with various types of media, and that Lightyear is simply the "2022 reboot" that adult Andy sees.
Barbie literally said that they didnt have enough Buzz Lightyears to meet demand. This Al's probably just overstocked after people stopped giving a shit
The girls were hot here
I'm not kidding, the first time I saw the new cast I thought it was an all male cast but it turns out 2 of them are female

Andy's racist

Unbelievable
Why are people saying that Lightyear retcons this when this takes place far in the future?
Because there's no aliens in Lightyear. At all.
That usually happens when things take place in the past.
>aliens suddenly exist after a brief time-jump
No, that's not "what usually happens" when things take place in the recent past.
Millions of years of evolution don't happen over the course of a couple generations.
>he's just learning about cube based time
don't worry bud. It'll just take you another million years of evolution, right?
>Making contact with aliens takes a million years
Well frick me, I guess Star Trek and all other sci-fi is bullshit.
why did you quote me? senior dumbass? maybe it'll take you another fricking million years to come up with an excuse
The movie ends with a formation of a new Star Command. I have no problem believing they make alien contact only after that.
I guess we’ll just have to wait for the next movie to see Mira
Im not saying Mira will necessarily be in it, but some aliens designs would be nice
Especially since this movies secondaries were so forgettable
homie are you implying Buzz Lightyear is a million years-old immortal who lived long enough to see Mira and the gang?
>a million years have passed
>but I do not age
I went to infinity, now I can never come back.
An Earth-based space exploration mission becoming a massive galaxy-spanning organization with deep space stations and becoming heavily integrated with alien member species is something that happens over two or three years, in the mind of the Cucksney apologist?

An action movie made in the 90s having an explicit lesbian is very unlikely but plausible, but no way it could happen in the 70s.
Fixed so the favorite movie actually makes sense for a 90s kid like Andy.
wait does that say rated (R)? kek

John Lasseter hates it, we don't know why exactly, but he was a powerful man and even after he's left Disney they have no intention of acknowledging Star Command.

why cant pixar just say that disney doesnt own the rights to the star command tv characters? why hasnt pixar taken legal action against disney, or better yet, turned the public against them? perhaps expose everything they have done in the past 50 years?
Because Disney always owned the rights to the Toy Story characters along with every other Pixar IP in the original five picture deal. That's how they were able to make the Star Command cartoon in the first place and it was why they were able to threaten Pixar with "We'll make our own shitty Toy Story 3 and Monsters Inc 2 if you quit on us and find a new distribution partner" and get them to merge.
then have pixar expose disney and get people to boycott disney parks and have them protest at the studios. get the pixar animators to finish the thief and the cobbler to piss disney off.
lol
lmao
they didn't even bother pitch shifting patrick warburton's voice, just left it as it
>"I swear, I didn't know she was under warranty!"
This show was a gem, put it on the dam service already.
the whole series and movie is up on youtube, albeit crap quality due to recording straight from broadcasting TVs, but it's all we got.
i recall another anon doing an HD rework, i wonder how's the progress on that is going?
Frick I can't believe I let his thread fall off the board so quickly
Hope he comes back with more

>no centaur cyclops space ranger cadet gf
it hurts
SUCC
Okay, if Mira is off limits why not just use one of the background aliens
cuties
Any other background girls?
I recall a cute alien waitress at the space diner
thanks for the space babes screenshots anons
based
Nice, any cat-like alien girls you got?
Not on hand, no. Pretty sure the waitress
mentioned had a somewhat feline appearance, though. And four arms.
the waitress from the gravitina episode that Mira tried to hook up Buzz with
Nice, thanks anon.
Same anon here
, do know what episode this was or have a full body shot?
I believe it was the gravitina episode that was one of the first episodes, I think episode 2 or 3 in season 1
Dam, 2 and 3 are gone.
I was also going to ask about cleaner anon
Reminds me of Star Trek Discovery where it turns out there was a strong black woman named Michael behind a shitload of stuff in the original Star Trek
She was Spock's human sister that he never mentioned
You sound insecure
Also
>That pic
We dodged a bullet. The last thing this movie needed was a romantic subplot
>Legitimate criticism about how the central hero is portrayed
>Toss out an insult as a counterpoint

>During the entire film Buzz is emasculated as a failure
?
she deserves more art
commission it
Warp’s apparent death still holds up after the twist, since Buzz really did lose him as a friend in that lab.
would you play a buzz lightyear doom mod?
Sure, but I'd want to use the arm laser as the main weapon, based off of how it was in the Toy Story 2 game from '99, with the charge shot. But seeing Buzz's face in the reflection would get old pretty fast. And I think I'd like it better as at least a Build engine game, since you could have Duke's jetpack
Yes
>she could phase through you at any point and rip your insides out
quantifiably based
Imagine the fisting
I really wish I could talk about the movie without the pol people getting worked up over it
just wait till its on disney+ so more people can actually pirate the thing to watch it instead of just complaining about screenshots or webms
This is what happened with encanto. It was impossible to discuss while it was still "the Hispanic movie that nobody watched"
The hatred has nothing to do with the lesbians no matter how hard you try to push that narrative, there's many people over the world used to that kind of stuff since anime has been doing it for decades now, most reviewers who went to see it just said it was too cliche, too boring and every latinamerican review I saw compared it negatively to the cartoon since that cartoon aired over here a lot back in the early 2000s and many really liked it, if you want a serious space drama do that and if you want a toddler's movie then do that, you can't half ass both and expect everyone to love it, pick one ad fully commit to it
Okay but counterpoint:
The mediocre reviews have nothing to do with the lesbians.
The fact that it's impossible to discuss anywhere absolutely does.
Nobody is trying to push a narrative anon. You are paranoid.
TV seemed more upset about the black rookie rather than the lesbians, anon
>"Fire on the planet of widows and orphans!"
>"You fiend!"
>"I knew that'd get him"

Ooh, can't say that in the UK...
Why not?
Slag is slang for women of ill repute in Bongland
What would you say sounds worse, and which one sounds funnier:
prostitute or Slag?
I had the movie on VHS but never saw a single episode of the show. I did have the PS1 game though, and that had clips from it. There was an energy vampire and a bigger, meaner X-R style robot and some kind of cyborg werewolf, cool shit.
The show pretty much has everything the pilot will lead you to expect, but with Patrick Warburton as Buzz instead of Tim Allen.
To be fair, the VHS "movie" was just the first three episodes strung together with Tim Allen overdubbing Warburton.
>overdubbed
Oh really? I figured they got him for the first couple then decided to switch VAs
The show had Warburton planned because Allen didn't want to, but after a while(and the success of Toy Story 2) Allen eventually agreed to do the special VHS movie.
>"Buzz it's time, get in the suit"
do you think he sleeps in it?
Funny how in retrospect it makes it seem like there were literally no other characters worth merchandising other than Buzz and Zurg
Seeing shots like this now makes me think that Buzz was actually a shelf warmer that nobody other than Andy wanted.
It just means that buzz and zurg were the most marketable characters. Notice how Buzz even got a kids meal you. Where's the Sox kids meal toy
Sox was 1000 times more marketable than any other character in the movie, you're telling me they didn't make any plushies or toys of the cute comic relief robot cat?
Yes
Well, that's dumb.
Yea
Barbie literally said that they didnt have enough Buzz Lightyears to meet demand. This Al's probably just overstocked after people stopped giving a shit
Wasn't there just one Zurg in the bargain bin in the entire store?
