This. By Paul marrying her, he tricks the Bene Gesserit into thinking they will get control of Paul and his heir through Irulan, but Paul cucks them, by literally refusing to have sex with Irulan and only impregnating Chani, which mindfricks Irulan so hard that she becomes his willing and loyal tradwife and stops working the Reverend Mother.

                >After cursing muad'dib, he died as a man knowing his son will save the universe
No, he rejected the Golden Path and told his son to live his life rather than worrying about what the future has in store, and sadly Leto rejected that. Once again, his life is intentionally portrayed as a tragedy.

Incorrect, I just reread the chapter, he never agrees that Leto should do what he's going to do, and says accepting the Mahdinate made him a bad leader because he compromised his principles. He still chooses to destroy the legend of Muad'Dib.

And this even includes the escorts I had sex with. I even spoke with friends and they shared the same experience that the 10/10s they were with were terrible in bed and the 5/10 were sex demons

Fremen were exiles and refugees. They're closer to Age of Discovery Americans or Australians, than they are to Indians or Abos. Second, most of their technology and knowhow comes from their unofficial leader Liett Kynes, who had access to all of the Empire's technology. Third, it appears a bunch of stuff can be made from spice, including explosives, plastic, rubber, etc. especially in a society ultra dedicated to recycling

You want to have some legitimacy so your enemies can submit to you without being completely dishonorable to their oaths.
Also being an usurper encourages other people to try their luck as well and you might end up being usurped yourself rather quickly.

Irulan really is a tragic character. Even after all her shittery in Messiah when Paul finally walks off into the desert Mohiam says that Irulan really did end up loving him and is in mourning. I look forward to her having a bigger role in Messiah which I think is what Denis was setting up by giving her more screen time in Part 2 compared to the novel.

                ?t=117
Part of the reason he wrote Dune Messiah was because people didn't understand that, so he had to make it even clearer.

She was manipulated into it by the Bene Gesserit, all because Paul told her he'd never frick her so that the Bene Gesserit could usurp their ubermensch child. All the while she has come to love Paul and he barely interacts with her except to confirm she's just a tool to him. If she did it because she just wanted the thrill of having power as an empress and PA isn't giving her that she'd be a b***h, but she's doing it out of love which makes her tragic.

Because she goes to discuss treason with her sisters, how can she expect any sympathy from him when she is a traitor? If she was less of a conniving b***h maybe things would be different also maybe not poisoning the woman paul loves

She only did that after Mohiam got in her ear and after Paul has repeatedly confirmed for the last 12 years he gives no shits about her. Imagine you're her, you have to marry the guy who overthrew your father, but despite that you've accepted your role and even come to have feelings for him. Then he tells you he has no plans to treat you as his wife and in fact won't even sleep with you to give you and heir. Instead, his consort who he actually loves will do that, which means the end of your bloodline. I'd be angry too.

Bad enough that she the Empress has lost a good chunk of political power, but now shes not even allowed to have a heir?
So she does the thing many harem women do, poison the consort and keep her infertile.
Paul will then get desperate for a heir as well as distraught that the love of his life has died.
And oh look a comforting shoulder to cry on.

In context willing means she won´t openly put Paul´s rule legitimacy in doubt. A consented political union means the other houses won´t be able to justify their revolts under her figure, consolidate an Irulan faction and call Paul usurper. This means their war can be treated as a rebellion tantamount to treason and they can all be stripped of any rights that come with nobility and executed as traitors under military law.

Because Atreides were untouchable on their home planet. They were supposed to go to Arrakis drain their strength on fighting the Fremen, with low spice production driving a wedge between Atreides and other great houses and the Spacer guild. Harkonnens couldn't do it on their own since they were a minor house and Emperor couldn't approach any of the houses other than Harkonnens. But Leto is no fool either, he sends Duncan ahead to forge alliances and gather intel. In fact he was likely to succeed if the Emperor gave him a bit more time. It's plans within plans

The joint Harkonnen/Sardaukar attack occurs so quickly, before Leto ever has a chance to frick things up so I have to imagine it was always the plan, that said, the Baron only gives Piter the choice between Jessica and running Arrakis for him after they capture the Duke. I don't know why they attack so soon so maybe plans change and they were originally planning on having Leto become hated, but the motivation behind attacking so quickly after the Atreides arrived is not clarified. That said, it took the Baron decades to save up the bribes necessary to use the Sardaukar and use the Guild transports so I doubt it'd change on a whim. Perhaps the fall guy was mutable and he just saw an opportunity to use Piter at that time.

Is the incest undertones in the book too?

To me this always felt like more of a "look how far we've fallen" scene than an implied incest theme, but in messiah the bg literally want paul to frick his sister, and he comes across her buck naked and sweaty and actually thinks about going for it for a second. The books are much more perverted than the movies.

Edited version with no ugly mutt zendaya when?
Surely we are only a year or 2 from AI being able to remove the judah.
Curveless, without cuteness or beauty the mutt is an abomination.

    Dune Bros
One problem I had with the movie was that if the prophecy was all manufactured by the Bene Gesserit, then why did the Desert Spring tears actually wake Paul up?

Because Frank Herbert was a shitty writer who lucked out on publishing esoteric concepts at a time before they took massive root in mainstream culture.

The desert spring prophecy isn't even in the book, idiot. Please refrain from future posting in Dunc threads, for the sake of greater board quality.

You can only imagine the screeching if he did it.
You should remember the screams at 2049 for daring to have naked women and women not being invulnerable.

Paul has the same poison transmutation ability Jessica has and used it to survive. All the events that "prove" he's the chosen one can be explained away barring the worm being his hype man, but that looked cool so whatever.

      It didn't.
He just woke up in that moment. Maybe even intentionally, or at least a part of him did it intentionally.
Remember: the Atreides are master manipulators.

So I as the audience am just supposed to assume that he "chose" to woke up in the moment?

See what drinking did to Jessica. She is not "herself" anymore from many standppoints.

One of my favourite parts in this movie was the harkonnen radio chatter. The pilots were cool too.

I dunno why it just really stuck out to me.

it stuck out for the same reason as the throat-singing in the first movie: because most of it was so boring and lacking personality.

Imagine posting something that's just 100%, factually, readily-verifiably wrong. Don't (You) me asking why if you seriously don't know, because I won't waste my time talking to someone I seriously doubt manages to tie their own shoes.

Because of space feudalism, ya dingbat. He's not marrying her for sex, he's marrying her for legitimacy. Legitimacy that can easily be questioned if there's any question of the marriage being forced.
    >inb4 why does he care about legitimacy
