does noone on Cinemaphile watch Bond films?
We never have Bond threads, no.
Did people back then think rear projection looked like shit?
It looks just as bad green screen.
*as
Back in those days England didn't have a lot of optical effects departments dedicated for sfx unlike Hollywood, and it was an expensive process. Plus most English directors disliked having just a blue background, even though it would be replaced later. For the space shuttle shots in Moonraker they relied on double-exposure techniques rather than optical compositing using the model in front of a blue screen. They were using rear-projection all the way upto Goldeneye.
Yeah, Dr. No had a budget of $1 million dollars in 1962 dollars. Today that's worth little over $10 million dollars. Consider the sets, the logistical costs, payroll, and everything else. Remember the recent Godzilla movie was made for $10 million dollars and look what they made with that.
>Yeah, Dr. No had a budget of $1 million dollars in 1962 dollars.
That was very low for an adventure/spy film back then. Don't think you really understand how film budgets have been historically.
>That was very low for an adventure/spy film back then
No it wasnt
FRWL was 2 million and the movie basically wasn't finished and had to be saved in editing (which made it the best Bond movie of all time). I think they went overbudget.
This is a Daltongay and Architect Appreciator Board.
Conneryboomers keep moving.
Dalton sucks. He never has humor you needed for Bond.
Woman: I got you all wet
Connory Bond: Yes, but my martini stayed dry
Only Bond as good as Connory is Brosnan
Pleb as frick post
Idiot. Dalton gays same same shit “he close to books.” Yet none of you gays have read Fleming’s books. If you did, you’d know he’s nothing like the books. Bond we know is from Connory’s Bond
Moronic uneducated post
Nice rebuttal
Dalton is a cool dude.
Thunderball is a film that is nearly 60 years old. For the time a lot of the effects in Bond films were good quality and inspired in audiences the intended sense of spectacle.
the underwater fight in Thunderball is kino
You mean the editing effects towards the end? Yeah they're pretty bad. But most Bond movies rely on in-camera effects.
This is why it should be made regular practice to update the movies for modern viewing. No remakes, but remasters. Probably be cheaper to do anyway. You can still have the original unaltered version available alongside the new version.
I am pretty sure they have done that sort of thing for old Doctor Who serials and TOS Star Trek, with the general opinion being the remastered negatively effects stand-out and feel soulless.
Because they do nothing for the rest of it. Just putting high quality effects onto low quality video does not make for a proper remaster. Upscaling and color correction needs to be done. That or ensure the new effect can properly blend in with the rest of it.
Gus Van Sant tried that and it let us see Anne Heche's butthole, so you might have a point
Its called SOUL brainlet
Movie sucks because le special effects are dated. Frick zoomer
i'm 29 homosexual
they're still good movies but the special effects are hilarious so frick off
black women can be hot.
>they're still good movies but the special effects are hilarious so frick off
Fricking moronic zoomie moron
>i'm 29 homosexual
>still a zoom zoom bottom b***h
Gen Z's 1996-2009. The oldest are 28 this year IE that anon's a millennial.
That's really nitpicking. It's literally a 1 year difference. There is no difference between a 29 year old and a 28 year old.
>black women can be hot.
Yeah but not that one
yeah but still no on that one
Garbage
****OFFICIAL BOND RANKING****
RIGHT HERE
>RIGHT HERE
TND turned me into a tactical gear gay when I was 6 or 7
Comic book bond was cool
Are the original novels good?
Some some are really good, some the later ones are 3/5 at best. Remember the films didn't go in book order, they went all over the place. I really liked Goldfinger, From Russia with Love, Dr. No, and OHMSS. You can find the audiobook versions on youtube. I read most of the books back in my middle school and high school days. Especially the long as period between Die Another Day and Casino Royal, thank god my best friend back then Horatio fricking loved James Bond as much as I did. I miss ya buddy.
Of the ones I've read:
Good:
Casino Royale
Live and Let Die
Moonraker
From Russia With Love
Meh:
Dr. No
You Only Live Twice
Bad:
Diamonds Are Forever
The Man With the Golden Gun
Dr. No is the best book though
>Permission To Die
holy frick what a kino title. you just KNOW at the end Bond tells the villain "you now have my permission to die"
Sounds familiar...for you...
if i drink your martini, will i get druk?
It would be extremely inebriating...
you're a drunk guy...
Barbara a cute.
super hot, but a terrible actress. common theme in the 70s/80s bond films.
Yeah true.
Usually they were just some bimbo someone was fricking on the side. They could take a knuckle and a knuckle to the face without bruising too bad without makeup, and still serve ya a martini and light your Lucky Strike cigarette for you.
>something came up
heh, he means his wiener.
If the choice is a Bond girl that can act yet is ugly or a Bond girl that is hot but cannot act, I will always choose the latter.
Seething Craiggays
Honestly, I don't really dislike any Bond actor. Even Craig was pretty good in Casino Royale.
The problem is the films they appeared in. Brosnan's only real knockout was Goldeneye, and Craig's only good one was Casino Royale. They "modernized" the franchise only to churn out one good movie and then a bunch of shit twice over.
Jane Seymour is still sexually active in her early 70's. Woof.
>I'm a zoomer
You care about special effects and not about how convenient the plot resolution usually is?
really good stuff,
Sean Connery:
Dr. No
From russia with love
GoldFinger
diamonds are forever is the worst he did imo
- George Lazenby 007 is also pretty good even though it was only 1
Roger Moore
Spy who loved me
Moonraker
Live and Let die & man with the golden gun
overall solid movies although didn't really like the last 1 he did as much.
Timothy Dalton was alright, nothing against
Pierce Brosnan super solid in all of them
Daniel Craig, Casino Royale, spectre and skyfall rest felt subpar.
The early Bond films were notoriously low-budget productions, and even as the success of the films led to larger budgets, most of it went into paying Connery's growing salary.
>safe edgy npc contrarian choice
t. mad Craiggay
Gen Xer. My booomer dad grew up on original Bonds. I loved the movies. Read all the Ian Flemings books. They were awful. Every homosexuals that hates Connory or prefers Dalton I know never read the books. Terrance Young ignored Fleming. He wanted a wolf in a tuxedo. He for Sean Connory who never wore a suit until Dr No as Bond. Fleming hated Connory calling him a thug. Than he saw Dr No, loved Connory so much he made Bond part Scottish
LALD has the greatest death scene in all of cinema
?si=NIiZ1sC2XGm8Zynz
He always did have an inflated opinion of himself.
Craiggays make me laugh
>Brosnan
>Connery
>Dalton
>Moore
>Lazenby
>Craig
1st two are interchangeable depending on tastes, the rest of the list is set in stone.
Golden Eye is the peak of the franchise. And despite Craig being the worst Bond by far, Casino Royale is a arguably a top 5 Bond movie, indisputably a top 10.
Casino Royale was such a good movie and it only went downhill from there, so much potential wasted.
The movie won an Oscar for effects and it fully deserved it. A lot of it was real like the jetpack or that perfect stund when Bond climbs on the boat at full speed.
And they actually designed and built a transforming boat for real.
Wasn't this the one where they blew up the boat for real? Also the one with Sean Connery swimming in a pool with actual sharks in it?
It's probably the least special effects laden Bond movie.
They just filmed real stuff where they could, screw the cost, instead of relying on "effects".
They really broke some record when they blew up the boat. It pretty much disappeared. And with the shark it's true too there was some gap in the pool that wasn't covered with glass or whatever they used and you can see in one scene shark getting a bit close.
It's in the making of documentaries. Each one is great I think they were on DVD or maybe Laserdisc versions but they're fantastic each is like an hour long.
What are you even talking about you dumb zoomer moron? Thunderball has the most impressive stunt work and practical effects of the early Bond movies. The underwater battle between Spectre and the CIA is still impressive today, that shit is so hard to do it would all be cgi now.
It's because it was choreographed and directed by the late Ricou Browning aka. the underwater Creature from the Black Lagoon
Dalton kings never lose
>be in only two movies
>get criticized for your acting
>leave the franchise at its all time low and so irrelevant that according to a poll most people of young generation didn't even know who James Bond was
>get fired by Cubby Broccoli himself
>years later get attention because people want to be seen as cool and original and don't go to the most obvious choices like Connery so you're the next best thing for contrarians
It's hell.
You are such a loser
And yet each point is based on real reviews and real history of the series that can be cited.
The last point is based on me being here long enough.
Its all based on you having dogshit taste
You don't know your history this is why these threads are usually so awful. People only know how to make tier lists.
What maybe can be debatable is Cubby firing Dalton. What happened was that he demanded Brosnan for the next movie after LTK. It's unknown if even without the problems Dalton, even if agreed which is another unknown factor, would've been in the third film. Looks like EON wanted a clean slate.
You really just have shit taste anon, its not complicated
In what? Movie franchises I read about? You don't know many critics criticized Dalton for his acting?
Shit taste
I don't think critics judge acting based on their taste. That would be weird.
"If there was a man I could dream of
I'd dream about a dream come true
If there was a man I could ever love
I'd wait a million years for someone just like you
All my life I have been belated
Never taking any chances, always hesitating
Where's the payoff? Where's the glory?"
S O V L
Dalton gays and Brosnan gays don’t lose.
The underwater scenes were groundbreaking for the time, even though they go on for a bit too long
