The cinematography was not framed with open matte in mind. It is not the intended creative vision. More does not automatically equal better.
>creative vision
>NPC needs to shlop up what the directors tell him to shlop
just play video games then
Video games>movies
>NPC needs to shlop up what the directors tell him to shlop
That's the whole point you moron. We view the director's vision, and judge it critically.
>he larps as a critic
lmao
I'm here to be entertained, pal
I don't care.
More screen = more good
this, tbh
iirc the wire was shot in widescreen but framed for 3:4. so when hbo decided they wanted the show in hd they had to go through the masters and use cgi to remove shit they left on the sides because they were really out of frame
better than the simpsons where they just bulk cropped and sharpened it
also upscaled and color corrected
yuck!
more equals more you hyperautist filmschool homosexual
The director's vision can suck my wiener. It's not his movie any more, it's mine.
>pic
i actually always prefer the top. never modded skyrim, new vegas, gta 4 or any game besides quality of life stuff. i've always loved immersing into the fictional world which is done best with original assets and everything.
>any bethesda game
>best played without mods
youre a funny guy, ill give you that
i mentioned quality of life mods as an exception. other than that, i'm not sure what mods you're deeming crucial there. i'm fine without light sabers.
The only Bethesda games worth playing don't need mods.
tha's what "lore-friendly" mods are for. unfurtonately the one thing I'd want for all bethesda games, to get rid of visible pop-in, seems impossible in their engines.
fpbp with the exception of open matte breasts
Open matte is better because whenever I watch a movie I always like pretending I'm somebody on the set.
you can literally see the adjustable top flag of the mattebox in the first shot. That area of frame was never intended to be in the final product.
>you can see the hand dropping food on the tray
kek
Cluttering up the frame with more crap does not make it better.
But 35mm is 3:2 not this bullshit 4:3 crop.
Film is 1.375:1, close enough to 4:3
>But 35mm is 3:2
In photography, yeah, but cinema film stock certainly isn't, moron.
Asians are why everything isn't still lag-free 4:3.
Watching Showgirls in open matte is an experience.
imagine all the breasts to be seen in open matte
True
Cute
THIS IS NOT THE INTENDED CREATIVE VISION
CROP IT OUT IMMEDIATELY
https://www.redgifs.com/watch/dismalgrowingkissingbug
But her breasts was never cropped out.
They are. Go check again. Only in the open matte release can you see them.
Oh shit you're right. But you can clearly see them in the background behind the priests.
>clearly
entire background is blurred
Specsavers
i remember catching the movie on tv and you could see the breasts for a split second before she went background
I don't remember seeing that in the movie
anyone know where I can download the 1080p open matte of fifth element?
I wonder that too.
found it
used qBittorrent with the external search engine plugins
https://www.reddit.com/r/qBittorrent/comments/kzr0h5/guide_to_configure_jackett_plugin_on_qbittorrent/
Leeloo Dallas Multifapp
the frick is that
why were her nipples hard ??
is open matte even an option for most movies? is this a common format? can i just buy a bluray and flip on open matte?
Of course not.
I’m starting to turn around on Kirsten Dunst. Never thought much of her but I watched The Virgin Suicides and Melancholia and now she’s getting my dick a little tingly
Where do you find movies to download in this format ?
Imagine a future format not with black bars at the top and bottom or sides, but with little rectangles in the corners.
having a cross shaped tv would be very christlike
One does not simply open matte into Mordor.
>is that more buildings and sky? OH MY GOD IM GONNA COOOOOM
spotted the RLMtard
Rent free
what, should i be bothered for calling you out on your bs
fincher likes to shoot wider and taller than necessary so he can have more creative freedom in post
literally everyone does that
Certainly not if you're shooting with anamorphic lenses.
I fricking hate black bars.
maybe you should find other spots to pick up your bulls then
how many movies are actually avalaible in open matte though
Blade Runner, Watchmen, 300, Titanic (I'm sure there are more titty pixels in there), entire Harry Potter, Infinity War and Endgame, Gladiator
The Fifth Element, Drive, Tron: Legacy...
Anything good except Blade Runner and Gladiator? Most of these are manchild flicks.
Zack Snyder’s justed leauge
so just a bunch of bollocks? hard pass
4:3 was perfect, films switched away from it in the 50s just because they were afraid of being associated with TV.
It wasn't because they were afraid of being associated with TV. It was because they had to come up with a new gimmick to pull people back to theaters after TV became hugely popular.
>yes, I love seeing lights, flags and boom mics
that's not how it works
it's exactly how it works
unless the movie is being shot for both formats, producers won't dub a line just because the matte was open, that boom mic is going down to the frame line or the sound recordist will never work again
Then what's up with all the lights, flags and boom mics in Spider-Man's open matte version, huh?
>open matte
What's the point? There's nothing important or interesting in the extra space, and the higher aspect ratio doesn't fit my screen as well as the normal one.
Left is squashed so I'm gonna assume whoever made this was a lying homosexual.
nah the movie was pan and scanned ,from dvd and upwards
in the widescreen version of Jackie Brown you can't see Bridget Fonda's brapper
You mean the open matte version? The widescreen version is the regular one.
in the open matte version you can see her naked ass, in the regular 1.85:1 version you can't because the top and the bottom of the frame are cropped. The former is the fullscreen version, bacause it has the same aspect ratio of old 3/4 TVs, the latter is the widescreen version (aka the intended version shown in theaters)
I just now realized I accidentally read "can't" as "can" in
My bad. You're correct.
There’s literally hundreds of examples of this VHS-only nudity
Another one I remember is the girl doctor from House shows her breasts in the full frame version of one of those final destination movies
I hope someone made a list of those examples.
There’s a bunch of them here
http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/showthread.php?s=21af935c5b420468e9323c9c115564d8&t=368198
I remember seeing a long list on a different message board ages ago, can’t find it now >.<
Were do you get these? Are you using Dall-e 2 to complete the frame?
>Were do you get these?
Torrent sites.
>Are you using Dall-e 2 to complete the frame?
lmao
Which ones?
Thanks for the laugh.
>zoomer brain in action
It's funny, they're like little kids. They think everything they know always existed.
Are you really this stupid?
>coping
>Are you using Dall-e 2 to complete the frame?
>open matte
more like open CRINGE, or open REDDIT
are you telling me my favorite movies are out there with frames capturing more footage than their widescreen counterpart?
wat about the Lord of the Rings Trilogy
or the Dark Knight
I want Bobbie Jo and the outlaw open matte
where do people get open matte versions?
At the goodwill store
Some of the ones I've got were tv rips.
Streaming services.
rutracker
the internet
tor browser
found a new bandwagon to jump on, eh?
you pathetic hipster, you!
where did ypu get this?
areall 3 films available in all 3 ways?
and then what is that, vhs/dvd/4k ?
or what? i need answeerrs
No, home releases have the intended cropping. This open matte stuff is coming from streaming services or TV broadcasts that are not showing the movies properly.
damn so is lotr tilogy ripped and available in open matte then?
Fellowship and The Two Towers have open matte versions out there, but The Return of the King doesn't.
And neither of the films have a perfect open matte version out there. You're going to have to choose between additional height or width, since both versions lack the other.
i thought widescreen was what dvd's usually have
i seen ''fullscreen'' come by before and then there always were the black sides on the left and right when watching on a modern tv anyway
>You're going to have to choose between additional height or width, since both versions lack the other.
couldn't someone make a complete version by overlaying one on top of the other?
it's possible but takes a ton of time.
https://forum.fanres.com/thread-20.html
why not just overlay the wide version over the long one?
i've never seen anything make less sense
>filmed with 1 camera
>widescreen is full width
>fullscreen is full height
or are they released indipendently and is the actual open matte still in the vaults?
>or are they released indipendently
Of course.
alright so i see out there but we can't yet obtain it
pitty
the Harry Potter ones are widely available
>but we can't yet obtain it
but I can
ok ok ok please help me out magnet
he's lying don't sweat it
they're going to be shown in a polish theater, that's where he got the screens from

Humans have two eyes next to each other horizontally. Our vision is widescreen. I agree it’s fake and gay to cuck out by just cutting off the top and bottom of your own movie, but with the advent of digital cameras that record directly in whatever format you want, widescreen is the superior choice. Still, it’s a fun gimmick to look up films that were cropped and see what they look like uncropped.
>I agree it’s fake and gay
what makes it particularly fake though? any frame size would be equally fake and arbitrary. whether the limitation comes from the filming equipment or from later production should hardly matter to the viewer. the first reply nailed it as it's all about arbitrary artistic vision. chances are that any crude change to content by a nobody will hurt the experience. though this admittedly probably isn't the case with fidelity upgrades relating to image and sound quality.
I actually wasn’t talking about films where the director intended it to be seen in a wider format, but when older films would get cropped to fit widescreen tvs. If you intend your film to be viewed in widescreen but you’re shooting on 35mm, I don’t think that makes the open format the “real” version of the film
open matte is homosexual moron shit
moron, youre not supposed to see the frame. it's not like IMAX movies where theyre filmed with IMAX in mind but cropped for home release so they could maintain IMAX exclusivity for whatever dumb frick reason.
you don't get to decide what is supposed to
Anti-open matte sentiment started as a Freemason conspiracy to hide more Munchkin suicides in The Wizard of Oz. The tradition continues to this day because they put "hidden in plain sight" child abuse in the letterboxing of films. They believe they absolve themselves of karmic debt through a loophole by admitting to their crimes in a roundabout way.
where did you get that from?
None of the image in The Wizard of Oz is even matted out.
kinda related: American Pie's 4:3 version has a short glimpse of Shannon playing with herself.
>bro you can see way more, just ignore the camera parts and boom mic moving around bro
don't ignore them. they make the movie better.
Anyone got The Big Lebowski open matte? The movie looks different in 4:3, and the widescreen is cut from the 4:3.
Is it easy to find them?
Rutracker has a big list.
Blade Runner 2049 open matte is absolutely better than scope. Just brings the visuals and the aesthetics to life more without breaking composition.
Dune will also work better as open matte (or IMAX Enchanced etc.)
Because both these movies were shown in IMAX theaters, so they were shot with higher aspect ratio in mind. The Blu-ray edition especially for dune is shit, and lacks the scale of the full picture.
