the sequels were made for and enjoyed by man-children, not children
children these days like peppa pig and minecraft, they couldn't care less about movies
People fundamentally misunderstand the criticism levied against the PT and the ST. It's not the same kind of criticism.
What most people have a problem in the sequels is NOT the content (except Jar Jar and midichlorians maybe) but the execution of the prequel trilogy. Noone hates the IDEA of a republic turning itself into an empire through intrigue and conspiracy, or the tragic fall of Anakin to the dark side as he's being manipulated. they dislike the pacing, the acting or dislike the use of bluescreens and CGI (which in this day and age of marvel movies and the sequel trilogy I wish people would complain about) but ultimately it's a coherent, well-thought out story. So after a while you'll forget about the CGI and really the only thing that stays with you is the story. Which is why the prequels seem to "redeem" themselves after so long, because the main thing they offer is the completion of the story.
The Sequel Trilogy on the other hand commits a whole different set of sins. It's the IDEA of this new empire rising basically undoing the OT and effectively retconning everything from Vader's sacrifice, Luke's triumph over the dark side. The entire story of the trilogy is completely incompatible with the OT, unlike the prequels. Even those that pretend to like the sequel trilogy secretly know it's garbage. They know TFA is just ANH remade, they know it makes no sense for the fallen order to exist in the first place. We all do.
At least today, the sequels benefit from online memes and viral marketing and toy sales. 10 years from now that will be gone. It might already be over. Noone will remember the sequels fondly, especially the ones that got to know these movies as their first star wars movies.
The prequels had good designs, an excellent soundtrack, and some genuinely good moments, e.g Order 66, duel of the fates, etc. What do the sequels have? You may call Anakin building 3PO stupid, but nothing beats the sheer moronation of the sequels.
>Lucas actually planned out the prequels
Sort of. In the sense that the ultimate outcome was predetermined he was always boxed in, but the movies themselves were made as he went (and sometimes revised even during production).
kids loved the prequels when they came out, nobody loved the sequels except monetized youtube critics that needed to protect their association with Disney
The kids of the 70s and 80s took their kids and themselves to support Lucas' prequels. The associative merchandise reflects this. Disney nu wars can and will never say the same.
Or the sheer lack of creativity >all the aliens are generic blobs - almost no OT aliens return; destroying the world building >it’s an xwing - but it’s black! >it’s a tie fighter - but with a gunner seat! >it’s an ATAT - but it walks on its knuckles! >it’s a star destroyer - but it has big guns! >it’s a Death Star - but actually a planet! >it’s Hoth - but it’s salt instead of snow! >it’s the emperor - but in a gold robe! >it’s the emperor - but wait not let’s just reuse him anyway!
Fricking lazy ass fricks.
Right, the PT had a lot of problems but it (the Republic and the Clone Wars) was a new "sandbox" to build new stories games etc from. The ST was an OT remake, instead of something new to carry the IP years from now
anakin building c-3p0 only doesn't make sense if you're an ot boomer >dude darth vader built c-3p0 the galaxy is so small
it makes sense when you watch it in chronological order >droids belong to Leia because they used to belong to Anakin and Obi-wan
they say nothing about Luke and Leia being siblings though >the princeess I went to go rescue just happens to be my sister. >dude imagine a little kid han solo in the prequels amirite (which george didn't do because he knew it would be fricking dumb still doesn't give George any credit where it is due)
This. I would also add that Lucas actually planned out the prequels, whereas Disney was flying by the seat of their pants and changed directors twice.
Jar Jar Abrams was rushing to finish the script well into filming taking place since he fired the other screen writer who was making something more akin to George's plans but JJ wanted to take the direction of the movies away from the prequels. OT boomers hating on the prequels are directly responsible for the outcome of the sequels
Millennial kids generally enjoyed and were invested in the prequels.
Zoomer kids mostly don't give a shit about the sequel trilogy.
So when they grow up I think by and large they won't care about it.
>we had so many fricking games every year from the 90s-2005 ish >disney gave all the rights to EA and they've made nothing but pay to win garbage with battlefront
Right, the PT had a lot of problems but it (the Republic and the Clone Wars) was a new "sandbox" to build new stories games etc from. The ST was an OT remake, instead of something new to carry the IP years from now
>Jedi Knight series >KOTOR series >Battlefront series >Republic Commando
Frick, man. Will Star Wars vidya ever be that good again? All we have now is some homosexual Dark Souls clone.
Oh no!
And we used to have >Quake 3 clone with a lightsaber >Generic Bioware game that got old on release >Casual Battlefield clone >Casual 3 hour long Halo clone
>So, literally nothing like Quake 3. The lightsaber combat is completely different to Quake gameplay.
It literally reuses Quake assets. It is literally Quake clone. >Lol. You were too young to remember the hype around this series.
Only because it was Star Wars. The game was garbage console shit. DnD mechanics in it were laughable. >It plays nothing like Halo.
Yeah, it's worse. >For one, it's actually not a console baby aim assist shitfest.
Republic Commando is literally console baby game with no real gunplay and any advanced FPS mechanics whatsoever. And it's also 3 hours long.
The point is, I don't think there's ever been an original SW game that was good. All of it is casualized copy pasta with SW skin slapped onto it, which is the main selling point. As videogames, they were never that good, and whatever it is they were aping was always better.
Something being true doesn't make it relevant. The Great Gatsby uses some of the same words and letters as the The Catcher in the Rye. Would you say one is a clone of the other?
Super financially successful too. If people hated it, there wouldn't be entire sections of toy stores dedicated to them that sell like hotcakes. I don't think anyone can deny they made big bank.
I had like 15 Chancellor Valorum action figures
I just wanted more and more of the cool spear for my stormtroopers
I don't know why my parents kept letting me get the same one
No... For several reasons >It wasn't made by George Lucas >It wasn't released in a period where the minds of people who watched it weren't tainted by zoomer tiktok/youtube/twitter internet >it wasn't memed on as much (in a charmful comedic way, rather than downright hating on it) >they'll still need to release a trilogy which ends up being worse than the sequels
>we had so many fricking games every year from the 90s-2005 ish >disney gave all the rights to EA and they've made nothing but pay to win garbage with battlefront
>RLM reviewed the Obi Wan show and outed themselves as Disney shills >people point out that their positions on the Prequels can't possibly be trusted considering their track record of abhorrent taste >RLM fanboys start seething and spamming
Don't let this thread distract you from the fact that in 1998, The Undertaker threw Mankind off of Hell In A Cell, sending him plummeting 16 feet through an announcer's table.
True fans supported George and so much so that the associative Merchandise made billions up until Disney bought the IP!
Star Wars Merchandise Died since Disney!
Try again, Mike!
((Journalists and writers)) seem to like it, but that may be just them selling out to the mouse for continued access and paychecks.
[...]
You're right, I'm not. And you're clearly butthurt but have no argument or else you would address what I'm actually saying instead of resorting to buzzwords. Cope and seethe.
Disney owes the investors nearly 20 billion on Star Wars. It was 4 billion in 2012, so its probably 4* that number today.
The only reason ((people)) like the shitquels now is because Disney's propaganda campaign is in full swing, pushing so hard for everyone to like them and insulting anyone who doesn't. Without that constant aura of artifical hype, people will start to recognize them as bread and circuses aimed at the lowest common denominator audiences who don't ask anything of their media. So no, in 20 years I say the opposite will happen. People will come around on the sequels, but in reverse from the prequels.
((Journalists and writers)) seem to like it, but that may be just them selling out to the mouse for continued access and paychecks.
>shitquels
You are not a woman
You're right, I'm not. And you're clearly butthurt but have no argument or else you would address what I'm actually saying instead of resorting to buzzwords. Cope and seethe.
>retroactively start liking the sequel trilogy
That isn't the correct use of the word. The correct use would be that they retroactively describe the prequels as always being well liked and respected, despite this only being a recent phenomenon.
no as they are literally just reboots of each film of the OT. they have terrible characters generic plots. only thing that coild be enjoyed is Rogue One.
unless disney makes another trilogy thats somehow worse than 7-9 which is impossible to do. i dont think anything can be worse than8-9
It won't, only because """people""" already think disneywars is "good".
There's nothing to turn around on.
Whereas the small minority of people who still have an objective grasp on reality know the OT is the only worthwhile Star Wars. Period.
>dislike the force awakens because it's ANH again
"at least it's not the prequels" >dislike the last jedi because it became abundantly clear disney had no plan for the trilogy
"you just hate it because you hate strong women" >dislike the rise of skywalker because it's a hotter fricking mess than attack of the clones was >normies hate it too
star wars fans are fricking weird
Disney's dying. The prequels associative merchandise made billions. There's videos of businesses shredding dumping and crushing Disney's nu wars merchandise!
Every other IP toys makes billions except for Star Wars. Look at Light Year! They're killing profits for the message and diversity! They're hoping Larry Fink bails them out.
the sequel trilogy to me is just working in Solo, Rogue One, and Last Jedi, it's fun for all that to tie together and for shit to have hit the fan after Return of the Jedi, a literal who shows up at the behest of Leia to say Luke is needed, but he is in the final throws of his jedidom, and blah blah words - he shows up and that entire sequence where a lone jedi heads off a fricking army using his force power, that's the end of Star Wars for me, the panning out over the galaxy talking up heroes coming to face off against villains and the inevitable rise of evil and imbalance of the force; THAT'S FRICKING STAR WARS.
>OT - Lucas >PT - Lucas >ST- no Lucas >random shitposters on Cinemaphile: THEY'RE EXACTLY THE SAME HAHA
To think the ST and PT are equivalent requires you to draw an arbitrary line between the OT and PT that doesn't exist
>liking the sequel trilogy >Han's, Leia's and Luke's actors still alive >no reunion scene, they don't even give a frick about each other, exactly ONE scene with Han and Leia where they just talk like mopey weirdos who got divorced 20 years ago and are still seething about the thing >end of TRoS retroactively makes 8 movies irrelevant
Absolutely, utterly impossible.
I tried really hard, for a time to get into the lore of the new canon and the ST, but to me it just doesn't really work. I liked some stuff, especially some of the books and most of them focus PT/OT characters or scenarios, there hardly is any relevant media for the ST.
If I watched the ST and liked the characters and plotlines within there is very little to get attached to past the point of the actual movies, so I feel like kids who grew up in the 2010s and became SW fans will just gravitate to what the related media focuses on and that's PT/OT.
This. They fricked up so hard by not creating an interesting universe for the ST to inhabit. The political state of the galaxy is nonsensical, no fricking Jedi to speak of, Han and Leia hate each other, Luke's in exile... Say what you want about the prequels but the world and lore are so naturally fascinating, conducive to tie-in stories, comics, merchandise, etc. You WANT to jump in and learn every random detail. With the sequels you just don't care because Disney doesn't care.
The prequels were really stupid in some places but also had a lot of memorable scenes and characters.
The sequels were mostly forgettable except for some really stupid stuff.
I can’t think of a single quote or scene from the trilogy that could be used out of context in a humorous way. If it doesn’t even have that then I doubt it will age the same way the prequel trilogy has.
There's nothing 'retroactive' about it lol. All that's happening is opinions are settling to a point that actualy reflects the quality of the movie in question
You see it all the time when something is massively overhyped at release, people say it's the greatest thing ever made, then eventually consensus settles on something more reasonable.
The reverse is also true. The vitriol towards the Prequels at release is in no way proportionate to the quality of the movies, so of course eventually less emotional and rabid people will re-evaluate them in a more positive way.
With the sequels, the only one even comparable is The Last Jedi, and that's the only one I can see getting any kind of critical re-examination (also because, much like the prequels, a lot of the story and themes in TLJ have been completely distorted by internet discussion to make the movie seem worse). The Force Awakens already went through the 'overhyped to lukewarm' reception, and nobody cares enough about 9 to really have an opinion either way.
TFA and TLJ were both successfully critically and financially, they both also have good user scores too, only TRoS has a mixed reception. 20 years from now idiots like you will say no one liked those movies when clearly a lot of people did, just like you are doing today
i went into a theater with a bunch of people excited to see TLJ (i hated TFA and joined them to hatewatch it) and every single one despised the last jedi. Rian Johnson having his own trilogy cut tells you everything you need to know.
Well shit I thought a bunch of people liked TFA and TLJ and that there was plenty of evidence in that from reviews and forum posts online, but I guess you and a bunch of your friends didn't like it then they must be lying.
>anecdotal shit oblivious to the facts
Rise of Skywalker still clocked in the obligatory billion dollars, and they're still pumping out shows and side projects. TLJ is polarizing at best, but like it or not everyone still pays attention to it. Even the youtubers who utterly detest Didsneeyd can't stop talking about it. You want to see a movie that actually killed a franchise? Transformers 4.
>b-but the le toys!
Kids don't buy toys as a whole anymore, moron. It's all about iphones, fortnite and youtuber shirts now. When was the last time you walked in a Target or Walmart? It's not just Star wars stuff still sitting on shelves. Hell, the fact that Toys R Us doesn't even exist anymore should tell you how general the problem really is.
>TFA makes 2 billion >TLJ makes 1.4 billion >ROS barely clocks in a billion
You lost 50% of the audience lmao. They stopped making Star Wars movies and turned to cheap tv shows for a reason.
Fricking Aquaman made more money than the conclusion of the sequel trilogy, Jesus Christ. And remember, Disney paid 4 BILLION for this franchise.
Most people were fooled by TFA's nostalgia pandering and member berries. There was huge hype going into TLJ. All they had to was have Luke kick ass with his green lightsaber and train Rey, and it would have made 2+ billion easily, but Rian fricked it all up.
kids loved the prequels when they came out, nobody loved the sequels except monetized youtube critics that needed to protect their association with Disney
Cartoons and games saved the prequel trilogy and its setting. No one is using the sequel trilogy for anything because it is too much of a wreck. Everything coming out now takes place before the OT.
yes, because it’ll be gold compared to the inevitably of sheboons twerking onscreen for 90 minutes straight >WET ASS PUSSY >WET ASS PUSSY >fo dat >WET ASS PUSSY
Prequels >great original stories and aesthetic >memorable quotes and characters >technological achievements >Made by George Lucas, so Canon
Sequels >drab aesthetic and OT ripoffs >literally nothing memorable or memeable >corporate garbage, so fan-fiction
Not an even comparison whatsoever. Everyone knows this. What’s more interesting are the motives of the homosexuals pushing this idea of ‘muh in 100years you’ll see...’ There’s a clear desire to bring down the prequels. After all, prequel-hate is why the sequels exist and only ripoff the OT, and why the sequels were tailored for the OT fanboy. The PT haters STILL can’t accept that people like these movies. This recent idea of equating the two is just their most recent attempt to relive their butthurt for the PT.
>prequel-hate is why the sequels exist and only ripoff the OT,
This is somewhat true, but I don't think you can blame people that dislike the prequels. To me it just meant they failed to internalize why the prequels are turds and why the OT is good. The sequels are what they are because they were made by people with a facile understanding of Star Wars.
No but no one will still care about the prequels either
little children will like something which disturbs and horrifies anyone that has already been born in 2022
No, and this video does a good job of explaining why.
The sequels don't stand alone and achieve anything as their own movies, each one is an anti-movie that exists only to undo and cancel out previous Star Wars movie/s. >Force Awakens is anti-prequel >Last Jedi is anti-Force Awakens >Rise of Skywalker is anti-Last Jedi
The prequels have a lot of flaws but at least they are unique and try to expand the universe without shitting on any previous Star Wars material
Why would they?
Same reason people are now defending the prequels - childhood nostalgia.
>nostalgia
Now try it without autistic buzzwords
the sequels were made for and enjoyed by man-children, not children
children these days like peppa pig and minecraft, they couldn't care less about movies
>man-children
Sci-Fi and fantasy, in general, are right now and have always been designed for man-children. I realized this too late.

Nobody is even going to remember the sequels to begin with, hell people have already forgotten about them except for Cinemaphile.
>liking the sequel trilogy
>Han's, Leia's and Luke's actors still alive
>no reunion scene, they don't even give a frick about each other, exactly ONE scene with Han and Leia where they just talk like mopey weirdos who got divorced 20 years ago and are still seething about the thing
>end of TRoS retroactively makes 8 movies irrelevant
No.
The prequels were really stupid in some places but also had a lot of memorable scenes and characters.
The sequels were mostly forgettable except for some really stupid stuff.
The prequels literally did not have a single character
>The prequels literally did not have a single character
what did he mean by this?
TLJ is the only one that has any potential to experience some sort of retroactive appreciation
the others are too soulless for that
I can’t think of a single quote or scene from the trilogy that could be used out of context in a humorous way.
A lot of people actually liked the prequels, especially ROTS even back then. I know I lost my shit in the theater back in 2005.
TLJ killed Star Wars. My friends and I all stopped going to Star Wars movies because of it.
>anecdotal shit oblivious to the facts
Rise of Skywalker still clocked in the obligatory billion dollars, and they're still pumping out shows and side projects. TLJ is polarizing at best, but like it or not everyone still pays attention to it. Even the youtubers who utterly detest Didsneeyd can't stop talking about it. You want to see a movie that actually killed a franchise? Transformers 4.
Merchandise is dead in the water. Disney has bought tickets in the pass so a billion dollars box office means nothing!
Merchandise is fan approval of which the prequels did Billions!
Disney nu wars is dead!
>b-but the le toys!
Disney killed Toys R Us! Disney literally Said, All your products has to be The Force Awakwns!
>TFA makes 2 billion
>TLJ makes 1.4 billion
>ROS barely clocks in a billion
You lost 50% of the audience lmao. They stopped making Star Wars movies and turned to cheap tv shows for a reason.
Fricking Aquaman made more money than the conclusion of the sequel trilogy, Jesus Christ. And remember, Disney paid 4 BILLION for this franchise.
TFA, were it about Ewoks and Robots, would have made 2 billion.
TFA as it was killed the Merchandise.
Most people were fooled by TFA's nostalgia pandering and member berries. There was huge hype going into TLJ. All they had to was have Luke kick ass with his green lightsaber and train Rey, and it would have made 2+ billion easily, but Rian fricked it all up.
>TFA and TLJ were both successfully critically and financially
i don't care about israelitemoney or the opinions or hacks
No. And I liked the prequels from when they first came out and always will.
Prequels merchandise made billions. So you were in good company.
20 years? Probably less!
Reminder that The Force Awakens will be 10 in 3 years.
kids loved the prequels when they came out, nobody loved the sequels except monetized youtube critics that needed to protect their association with Disney
it doesn't have "memes" so no
Cartoons and games saved the prequel trilogy and its setting. No one is using the sequel trilogy for anything because it is too much of a wreck. Everything coming out now takes place before the OT.
The prequels were always good.
The sequels never were and never will be good.
yes, because it’ll be gold compared to the inevitably of sheboons twerking onscreen for 90 minutes straight
>WET ASS PUSSY
>WET ASS PUSSY
>fo dat
>WET ASS PUSSY
We already have this, though,
>Padme he was 17 years, 364 days, 23 hours and 3500 seconds old you sick frick
Padme was 5 years older than Anakin.
I learned recently that Han/Leia and Kylo/Rey both have a larger age gap than Padme/Anakin
Kinda weird that only one gets talked about
That's becouse Padme meet Anakin when he was a child
That's because those characters meet while adults and don't feature hilarious dialogue like "Goodness you've grown!" that call attention to it.
And yet the Prequels merchandise Made Billions! Can Disney say the same?
Prequels
>great original stories and aesthetic
>memorable quotes and characters
>technological achievements
>Made by George Lucas, so Canon
Sequels
>drab aesthetic and OT ripoffs
>literally nothing memorable or memeable
>corporate garbage, so fan-fiction
I always liked the prequels. I dont like the Disney.
Gen X’s will but kids won’t since they don’t care about Star Wars
No but no one will still care about the prequels either
little children will like something which disturbs and horrifies anyone that has already been born in 2022
Prequels made its billions in merchandise! Of which Disney can never say!
No, and this video does a good job of explaining why.
The sequels don't stand alone and achieve anything as their own movies, each one is an anti-movie that exists only to undo and cancel out previous Star Wars movie/s.
>Force Awakens is anti-prequel
>Last Jedi is anti-Force Awakens
>Rise of Skywalker is anti-Last Jedi
The prequels have a lot of flaws but at least they are unique and try to expand the universe without shitting on any previous Star Wars material
