Indy 5 expected to bomb, close tie with Flash

>Dial of Destiny is expected to open on $65 million domestically, and only $140 million worldwide. Considering the reported $295 budget of Indy’s swansong, along with a heft marketing campaign, this puts the fifth and final Indiana Jones adventure on the same shaky ground as the likes of The Flash, which has been a massive underperformer in the last few weeks.
https://movieweb.com/indiana-jones-dial-of-destiny-opening-weekend-projections-disaster-for-harrison-ford-swansong/

That's what you get for letting Disney handle classic Paramount franchise and for bogging old-fashioned adventure in SJW trends nobody likes to see in it.

If that was really what was going on George would cement himself as the GOAT of GOATs for such a 4D chess move.

Bullshit. It ain't happening. Disney never admits failure for anything ever. If Disney ever went bankrupt, they'd take everything down with the shop. Also, modern Lucasfilm's assets are too worthless now to be an attractive sale.

I mean, that is very common, yes. Leave it with a lawyer to release in the event of your sudden death. Or if you're a full-on schizo like McAfee, they make plenty of deadman switch computer programs, so if you don't check in every so often, it can send an email or something. back in 80s, when Ford didn't wanted to do any movie after The Last Crusade, Dennis Quaid was offered the role of Indy for some scripts made by Chris Columbus (Indiana Jones and the Monkey King/Garden of Life) but the project went down in part because tests was poorly received.

That's why we had Young Indiana Jones instead of a recast.

Dennis Quaid in the late 80s or early 90s looked like Ford in late 70s. The point is they tried many times to recast Ford but the tests are always poor.

BTW, when the recast didn't worked they tried to present Quaid as Indiana brother, but it didn't worked too. The character will die with Ford.

The issue was indy 4 went into development hell for so long. Ford was set to come back in 1992-93. Lucas dragged ass and didn't settle on a concept for a while, eventually demanded aliens, and then Independence Day comes out and Spielberg flat out says no, no aliens, this movie just did it better. Then George makes the prequels, and when he finished those, he pushed to do make Indy 4. Basically, George Lucas had dick all to do in the early 90's and didn't figure out an indy 4 then, and decided to go ruin star wars for everyone first.

      >There's something else going on here that we don't understand.

The middle managers and many of the top mangers at these companies are WOMEN (sometimes lesbians) who are just THAT clueless. They think they're improving the series because they see the main flaws was lack of strong women. You see an insufferable "girl boss" shitting on an old man. THEY see a strong heroic female lead.

In short, women leaders for these companies are a disaster since they don't like and have no understanding what makes fantasy, adventure, or sci-fi work at all. Diversity hiring is one of the worst ideas ever, since it guarantees these nerd and male focused series are in the hands of clueless women who think they can do better and let feminist theories write stories.

        Anonymous

The problem is that these corporate types look at charts and say, “Not enough women, African-Americans, insert other demographic here are watching our movies. We need to improve international appeal.” These people don’t understand the basic principle of “if you try to please everyone, you please no one.” I guess it’s the inevitable result of spending the GDP of a small nation on a movie

          Anonymous

The idiot feminist middle managers have pulled a con on the money men saying they'll diversify and then expand the audience. White males are shrinking, ergo it makes less sense to pander to them. however, you shouldn't try to outright alienate them, and non-white males overlap WAY more with white males than they do with women. In reality, this was just carte blanche for idiot feminists to take over series.

Feminists always have MAJOR hostilities towards male media. Look at the original Bechdel comic and it's seething lesbians angry male movies exist. Now they got their wish, and their superficial critiques can't result in profitable stories at all.

diversity & feminist hiring practices = lack of strategic planning. all they had to do was make a really good cartoon series to revamp interest in IJones. small, lower cost test to see if public still loves the character. then from there do a movie. instead, after NO ONE gives a single frick about IJ since 2008 movie, they try to reboot now.

The mummy was incorrectly labeled as flop. Final financial report marks almost 20M profit. The portal that estimated initial loss made a critical mistake because they expected movie to finish box office run at around 350M while The Mummy reached nearly 410M. Universal producers were actually proud of box office performance but admitted the movie was rushed and promised to rework other monster movie attempts to avoid Mummy's mistakes and criticism.

The whole 'Mummy is a flop' bullshit comes only from miscalculation of final gross. But then people started to repeat same lie over and over.

They’ll go back to smaller budgets. This stuff has been in development since Infinity War and the Marvel heyday, when they thought big money equaled bigger money. But modern popularity is shifting, and there is a years long lag between trends of whats bombing to whats being released. Like all these moron bombs were shat out and greenlit when the IP was still hot, but the slow deterioration has caught up to them and they’re in a redzone like crazy now. It's production budget is somewhere around $295M, but its marketing + theater licensing brings up the break even point to approx. $900M, a number it will never reach. It's unironically over.

For a good part of almost two decades Hollywood has been terrible with budgets. CGI was supposed to make filming cheaper, but as making movies is almost completely CGI now, the budgets went insane as CGI, even shitty CGI, needs a lot of people to create it.

It's all israeli accounting bullshit. Lucas made the prequels for around 115 million each. So 210 million in today's money but there's no cutting edge movie development going on behind the scenes on this shit.

Didn’t love it. Cartoony, overly digital action. Fake looking in general. Some decent supporting actors like Antonio Banderas, but nothing for them to work with. Not a single striking shot in the whole film, you really miss Spielberg’s visual flair. Ending was so blatantly reshoots as well.

    Since everyone is anonymous,
hi Cinemaphile. I was involved in this movie many years ago (got fired).

The initial plan was to have Chris Pratt alongside Harrison Ford.
Kathleen was against it, I got fired during the time Chris Pratt was fired and Chris was replaced with that female character.
I dont know what happened after that since I was not involved. Also No Nazis in the first draft. And Spielberg wanted to go "full practical" with zero CG visual effects but Kathleen had to cut corners and it became difficult due to budgeting and schedule.

And Spielberg wanted Shia back. The second draft had Shia's character.
Shia and Chris Pratt were gonna become a duo and continue the franchise.
The script was really funny and I think it would have become great.

i believe they are overconfident, in the sense that they think they can't fail. they think they have total control, in that whatever they put out, the goyim will eat up, no matter how bad. and so far they are being proven wrong. matrix 4 was bad and not enough good goys showed up to watch it. lil mermaid was bad and same happened. they thought goys were so frickin mentally mindbroken they'll consoom anything, and yes there are diehard fans who will, but not enough of them. so now we're in the part where even though they were proven wrong, they continue to double-down like a desperate gambler. except they also have a lot of money, hundreds of billions and access to loans, so they think they are too big to fail. also the execs, who are just mindless puppets anyway, know they have golden parachutes so they won't suffer any huge financial or lifestyle changes. KK and Igre will still be multi-millionaires even if they both got fired. we're at a pivotal point in this absurd clown reality, and that's why i am still paying attention to see which domino piece drops first and causes the chain reaction.

it could also be a controlled demolition, whereby these huge private equity firms like blackrock want media companies such as disney, vice, buzzfeed to make huge blunders on purpose, to crash so they can buy them up on the cheap and have total ownership. right now they already have a huge stake but not the whole thing because of factors like maybe disney family members still own shares, stuff like that. big picture is that they want to consolidate everything, and that's also why disney bought up many other studios and competitors such as Fox. soon the only thing standing in their way are a few uncorruptible officials who might flag these transactions for anti-trust reasons, but eventually no one will really care to check financials so the hollywood accounting scam will continue.
there's also interesting stuff going on with censorship, because you clearly see negative reviews being censored on rotten or imdb, but youtube still allows these podcaster guys to say negative comments about "woke" movies. maybe they want to give the illusion that the tide is turning when in fact they are just grabbing more control.

but if disney+ maintains fewer subs, and disney has several flops in a row, that will at least drop their stock price a little, which then calls into question netflix, which then spreads to apple and amazon (both copying netflix with streaming platforms). so you see this could just be the beginning.

I do believe a big part of why Ford worked so well was that he knew the script for Star Wars was a bit iffy in terms of dialogue. Indy on the other hand worked because it was a serial throwback and Ford, being as old as he is, had a good idea on how to spin a character like that.

Way to give away you’re a lying moron with one line. Even Nolan uses CG in his movies. There’s no avoiding it in the modern day. It’s too effective at helping reduce costs and keep people safe. Especially octogenarian Harrison Ford. Also, it was Spielberg and Lucas’s idea to start the movie with a younger Indy, which would require? Gasp. You guessed it. CG

Iger’s fantastic lack of foresight during the Fox acquisition means you’re going to get Big Comcast Dick shoved straight up your puckered anus to the tune of $27 billion next year and if you want that to not affect what IPs you can own into 2025 you should figure out how to make movies that appeal to real audiences and not the ones on twitter

      What were the plot leaks?

        Anonymous

I read it on Cinemaphile and didn't save it. But basically Arcimedes made some device that could turn back time and what made the time travel a closed loop was him seeing the plane that travel back in time.

          Anonymous

          [...]
The leaks were confirmed ages ago and then double and triple confirmed by journalists last week and anons here yesterday. I don't know how there can be any discussion about their validity now.

Thank you both for answering my question.

And that sounds really terrible, you have an artifact that can travel through time and choose to do nothing interesting with it.

            Anonymous

Apparently the dial points to gaps in time or some bullshit, its not actually a time travel device, that's how they fly the place in to the time vortex or whatever and the Romans shoot the plane down in the past.

          Anonymous

Close but a bit off. Archimedes doesn't create time travel his dial just measure's where a time fissure would be

the big one is that ford's indy dies and the woman takes his hat and goes on his adventures, basically takes his place. they may have changed it to just him dying and her being sad. mads the evil nazi guy also dies randomly, and doesn't succeed in changing anything with the dilator so the entire movie is pointless.

He doesn't die and she doesn't take his hat but it's pretty much her adventure and he's along for the ride. She's also a prostitute who fricks to get her way or information despite being hideous

yeah that is true. hero prevents villain from getting and using the doomsday device or mcguffin. we get entertained from the chase and struggle. i guess most movies are pointless, especially if there is no moral to the story. every hour we spend consooming entertainment media, is an hour we're not improving our skills, making more $hekels, or questioning lies we were taught (e.g. the hall-of-costs).

that's true. but Jones going up against the nazis or the nazi-like russians yet again to foil their very weak attempt at world domination is boring. the stakes were not clearly laid out in crystal skull. it was left abstract (if the soviets get the skull they will definitely use its power to somehow win)...but he ends up helping them find the skull the entire movie and leads them to the el dorado place. there was never a world-ending threat, not even a big city was about to get destroyed if the bad soviets got their hands on the spooky relic. this is what makes indiana movies boring to modern audiences. they want tangible rewards and struggles to prevent X apocalytic event.

some nazi guy maybe getting some dial that maybe helps him go back in time? who cares. it's not going to get asses into seats. disney will have to fudge movie ticket sales.

Maybe in another world where they didn't cast Shia, pratt could have played his son or a student of his but recasting after 40 years wouldn't work, he would always look like Chris Pratt in an Indiana Jones costume, he'd still have to be his own thing, like mutt was. Even then that doesn't really work, as by that point you're getting in to the 60s 70s where it's not the same world or tone, the world is a much smaller place by that point and with the current political climate he couldn't even play similar character without it going down like a lead balloon with the sjw and cuck audience.
