Reminder that the modern insistence on portraying autism as nothing more than a cute quirky girl, is a way by the same women who bullied real autists 10 years ago to now feel better about themselves by reclaiming the label and subsequently taking it away from actual autists, justifying their mistreatment of them and helping them sleep better at night

They're not doing it for (you) or for other autists, they're doing it for the sake of their own moral conscience

The issue with this line isn't that it's unrealistic
Trust me, autists can and will talk like this
The issue is that it's portrayed as some kinda BRAVE and STUNNING #TRUTH YASS QUEEN SPEAK IT moment, as opposed to what it really is- cringy and lame- and that feels jarring

      Also this
You hate this line coming out of this character, despite it not at all sounding unreasonable for an autist to say, because you subconsciously feel how disingenuous it is

It's not that they can't or don't understand the concept. It's just more of a conscious effort on their part to exercise it whereas it comes naturally for normies.

Normalgays are some of the less empathetic and worst people you'll meet
At least most autists are genuine in their expression, they can be nice or they can be buttholes like most people, but whichever it is, you'll notice

This, a ton of people are claiming to be autistic nowadays just cause they're kind of socially awkward or weird, it gives them leeway to get away with shitty behavior and oppression points due to their supposed autism. Autism and ADHD are a fad now.

Autism can be two ended - You can have zero empathy, or you can have hyperempathy. Autists exist on rules. those rules tend to be consistent, but kind of alien to those around them.

      Anonymous

Your brain isn't wired the same way mine is. You think I get empathy from 'neurotypicals'? Frick no. If I act differently, it's because I'm 'moronic' or 'a creep'. But suddenly if I say I'm autistic everyone suddenly starts getting sympathetic and understanding.
I literally wrack my brain every day to try and act the way you c**ts seem to want society to run and all I get is fired. Frick off.
If I don't act empathetic, it's because I haven't seen empathy enough to initiate it.

Maybe true. I always felt like I cared more about others than other people when I was kid (I've changed since then, though). I was always compulsively polite and dreaded making other people upset.

No, I can shut down during overwhelming situations and be unable to speak though, it’s just temporary

Me too. Sometimes if I'm in a bad mood I have trouble speaking full sentences.

You don't want one, you just think you want one

When I'm alone I'm very messy and sloppy. But anytime I've had a roommate I've kept things pretty neat. I'd probably just clean up after her.

So the problem is inaccurate representation then?

There's not a lot of research into autism being hereditary. As an autist myself i don't want kids either. But it's more (for me at least) kids being terrifying for me. They're loud and unpredictable, which are things that just set me up to 20 in terms of stress.

This makes me think. Does a neurotypical person even have the ability to write an autistic person and vice versa? The differences seem too significant and both seem incapable of fully understanding the other.

Typically, if medicated correctly it gets rid of the depression that leads to bad hygiene. With some level of motivation we’ll take to it like a fixation, and yeah it’ll probably consume our life but we do it well it just depends on what we’re motivated to do.
