Heather Antos and her friends at Marvel went out for milkshakes and posted it on social media. Comicsgate chuds got triggered by so many diverse women working on Marvel and started hateposting about Heather Antos.
A bunch of major comics writers released statements condemining comicsgate and supporting heather antos

/co/mblr has it right enough. Keep in mind that Antos was getting triggered by shitposting about her editing work. I'd put her in the same bucket as Zack as far as easy to rectally ravage. This is the same era that got mockingbird whining over bullshit harassment complaints an eisner nomination.

Note that her career has taken her to IDW now, which I think suits her. Politically and professionally.

Antos and all the other editors went out for milk shakes. Marvel has really shitty editors, so a lot of the comments were directed at how bad they are at their job, but it was spun into sexism.

A comic book editor gets the writer's script and sends it back with all kinds of changes that need to be made. They should, in theory, be catching typos, telling the writer to delete useless scenes, and catching continuity errors.

In practice, some editors really help make the comics better and some are useless and some are actively harmful, but unless you actually work at Marvel you can't distinguish between "mediocre comic that was a disaster until the editor salvaged it" and "mediocre comic that was good until an overzealous editor fricked it up"

In a cliche way, a lot of her early success seems to be the original swelling marvels push which was shitty but had a decent og run mixed in.

I’ve heard of Gwenpool once and but have not read it since I can’t be bothered to care about derivative capeshit anymore. I thought that the concept of her power seemed interesting, but I wish they had just let it be it’s own thing instead of using the name and costume to imply it’s just female Deadpool.

Also I know nothing about the “milkshake controversy.” Is it just chronically online Twitter users making a big deal about nothing? Because that’s what it sounds like.

The Hastings run is really, really good and, for the most part, has a definitive ending. It's widely considered one of the best runs of a new character in years and gave the character a huge boost of popularity.

Now is she "actually popular" enough where subsequent runs sold worth a shit? No. But that first run was VERY good and endeared her to a shitload of people.

That's the best part, a lot of them did try, and they all failed horribly. One of the bigger ones made the classic noob mistake of kickstarting a comic without thinking about the fact that it costs money to mail things. There was a point where he was shipping each individual floppy comic in its own personal fricking box, something no one who had ever paid even casual attention to a success comics kickstarter would've done, but they were all morons who didn't know anything

          Anonymous

They've tried with mixed results. It's not suprising that a bunch of noobs would struggle. What's also suprising is exactly how hard the anti types went after them, trying to prevent them from being published by literal nobodies, as we saw with that debacle with Waid and Antarctic.

Still got some mediocre comics, and some storytimes of pain out of it.

Does anyone care about her now that Ghost-Spider exists?

She's been more off than on. Had a stint in that marvel direct to web infinite comic...that didn't go too great.

You can tell by track record. Some creatives actually do better with a strong editor to keep them running smoothly. During this time there were some blatantly obvious flubs in the star wars books antos was working on.

Antos spends a LOT of fricking time getting into stupid, petty political battles. Possibly too much for even Marvel.

Gwenpool is nothing but a gimmick character created out of some gwen Stacy variant cover arts. She had one decent comic and a good design and now she’ll fade away into irrelevancy with the exception of cosplayers and fan artists

She was good only with Hastings writing so far. All others who tried her were bad.
She is just like Deadpool, only handful of writers can do justice. All others wants to write but don't have talent to make it funny and compelling.

I thought her comic was pretty good and this is coming from a Marvel-hating DC fanboy. The only Marvel stuff I like is Spider-Man related. I actually only read Gwenpool because I saw an out-of-context panel of Deadpool beating her up (based) and he tells her that most people think she’s an alternate version of Gwen Stacy, which caught my interest, as I did think she was an alternate version of Gwen Stacy and didn’t care until I found out she wasn’t.

Gwenpool was never popular, she had a small but dedicated following from people who were fans of the her when Chris Hasting was writing her. That series was too meta to ever have mass appeal, and nobdy since has written her well at all.
Niche character that happend to crossover with the cosplay community.

What do you mean now, Gwen (male) happened before Poole. Either way, she's a shit character and even if you're in it just for the porn, it all sucks. It's as if her blandness resonated so strongly it even affected creative output on smut, I call it Overwatch syndrome.

I really enjoy gwenpool, she reminds me of the best parts of 80s she-hulk and is a fun look into the marvel universe. I was always a sucker for the she-hulk character that became a villain just so she and her husband could stay relevent and not die. That being gwenpools entire character is an interesting take, her constant evolution isn't just new writers its her adapting to survive. The problem is i think she got fricked over by appearing at the same time as spider-gwen and she also got the "this is just lady deadpool" treatment despite being her own individual interesting character. Its one of the few series I still/would get physically.
