NO, YOU NEED TO LEARN MATH PROBLEMS THAT YOU WILL 100% NEVER USE IN THE REAL WORLD UNLESS YOU PURSUE A CAREER IN MATHEMATICS!
Next you'll tell me schools should teach kids how to do their taxes, act in social environments, and why breaking the law is bad.

Brainlet, those are basically like weight lifting for your mind. It's TRAINING your brain to understand complex abstract concepts and logic. Also shit like basic fraction math you learn in highschool is very important in building or making anything and most people over 30 totally forget it and it's hilarious when you take a CC class with them and half the class is teaching basic math that I already learned. You're just too low iq to apply it.

I learned fractions in middle school. And that's fine and dandy.

                >AB=72+Y and Y=AB-72.
                AB-Y=72

                (72+Y)-Y=72 -> 72=72

                Alt

                AB-AB+72=72 -> 72=72

Like I said you can't solve it because you have two unknowns.

                Anonymous

Obviously, but the textbook wouldn't be asking you to solve the equation without giving you a value for something. More than likely the textbook would be asking how to find a given unknown rather than asking to solve, and anon was simply misunderstanding the assignment.

                If AB-Y=72 then:
                A=(72+Y)/B
                B=(72+Y)/A
                Y=AB-72

Listen here, if you couldn't solve that shit as a pre-teen without even needing to learn it in school, you're a fricking idiot. That's okay, not everyone can be smart, and you're not less of a person for being stupid. Take pride in who you are as a human being and don't compare yourself with others. Intelligence is just one trait of many, and you can still be kind, hard-working, loving and lovable. You're not lesser just because you're not smart, just like someone isn't lesser just because they're born without a hand or born ugly. Be a person people want to like, and they'll bend over backwards to justify your worth because that's what we do for people we like.

It's seen as "gay" because it's a left over of the dumbass "Father Knowns Best" style of upbringing; where boys are literally raised to not know how to survive without a woman around. Cooking, cleaning, sewing, balancing a budget, and child rearing were "women's work", so a man knowing how to do any of that was a sign of him being gay because it implied that he was planning to not have a woman in his life. If you're a millennial and don't understand why your dad was shit at taking care of himself once he divorced your mom, a BIG part of that is because he was literally never taught how to take care of himself.

Because barbeques are held in yards, which you'd have to do yardwork in an maintain which shows you're an outdoorsy type who can handle his way around a house, as well as showing off your yard and house as a sign of pride.

      >Home economics
      Not here.
But primary schools sometimes try to teach children how to cook useless dishes.

It would help society, though not the economy, if adults knew more about cooking than ordering in.
If it's one lesson a week then you have roughly 25 lessons or hours in an entire year devoted to it... which is not enough to cooking, hygiene and safety.
You might even have less food politics like fad diets, sugar in everything and corporate backed veganism/phobia of animal products.
Honestly there are a lot of "the world around you" subjects that should be taught but aren't, instead favouring honestly theoretical and higher level subjects that very few people find use for later on, like Religious Education, which is useless even at teaching you about your country's primary religion, let alone preparing you to be a loyal subject in the secondary political order.

The UK did have home ec once, but most schools who used to do it as a GCSE changed over to "Food Technology". Its been scrapped as a formal qualification since 2014.

I did food tech in the early 00s as a GCSE because nobody trusted me around power tools, and the teacher was intensely frustrated they couldn't teach proper cooking and household management stuff sny more

      >Its been scrapped as a formal qualification since 2014.

It should have more. Children used to learn cooking from their parents or community. If school is going to prevent them from existing in an environment to pick up homemaking skills naturally then it needs to teach them those skills itself.

When I did it, it was mostly baking really basic stuff like scones or yoghurt cake. I think if you did it as an elective for GCSE (the closest you Yanks have would be a High School Diploma) you also learnt about food production. It looked boring af, so I went did Business Studies instead. That was slightly more interesting, but everyone else basically saw it as an excuse to frick around, and not even in the fun way.

One time I made plain scones, and I forgot the sugar. I felt a right proper 'nana.

We had a cooking classes pretty regularly, but the last time it happened we spent the entire time baking because we didn't feel like making food. The only problem was that I got diabetes a year earlier so I wasn't able to eat most of the cakes I made. Huge disappointment.

Basic turkey crown recipe for taste and moistness throughout
    >obtain turkey crown, stuffing mix, sausage meat, butter and streaky bacon (back bacon is fine but harder to work with), plus whatever spices you want
    >preheat oven to 180°C
    >set turkey on a baking tray
    >gradually mix up your stuffing mix and sausage meat with boiling water and a little butter until you have stuffing, be mindful of cross-contamination
    >turn the turkey over and stuff it into every orifice, especially the big cavity on the underside
    >turn the turkey back over so the stuffing is on the bottom
    >gently and carefully work the top layer of skin away from the rest of the bird with your fingers to create three small pockets, two at either side of where the head would be and one at the other end
    >take some butter (mix spices into it if you want)
    >work spiced(?) butter into the pockets
    >flatten the butter against the flesh
    >rub spices onto the skin
    >layer the bacon in streaks across the turkey, covering everything
    >add water to the tray, enough to reach about 1mL depth
    >add turkey to the oven for however long your bird takes to cook (will vary by size, consult packaging or internet for guidance)
    >remove turkey 30mins before the end and strip off the bacon, set on a plate for later
    >baste turkey with juice in tray
    >stab turkey to check if the juices run clear
    >if they do, baste a little more, cover turkey with and return it to oven for final 30 minutes
    >consume tasty bird corpse

I never got the point of stuffing turkeys. By the time the stuffing is properly cooked you've overcooked the meat. I prefer to spatchwiener the turkey, dry brine it, and glaze it as it cooks with aromatics on the bottom. Stuffing I just cook separately since you get a better crust that way.

Because you slow roast a turkey you fricking berk, it allows the stuffing to flavour the meat.

It's why you're supposed to roast your veg in the same oven.

Yeah but the teacher would usually have us using recipes that required:
One 18.25 ounce package chocolate cake mix
One can prepared coconut pecan frosting
Three slash four cup vegetable oil
Four large eggs. One cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Three slash four cups butter or margarine
One and two third cups granulated sugar
    Two cups all purpose flower
    Don't forget garnishes such as
    Fish shaped crackers
    Fish shaped candies
    Fish shaped solid waste
    Fish shaped dirt
    Fish shaped ethyl benzene
    Pull and peel licorice
Fish shaped volatile organic compounds and sediment shaped sediment
Candy coated peanut butter pieces. Shaped like fish
    One cup lemon juice
    Alpha resins
    Unsaturated polyester resin
    Fiberglass surface resins
    And volatile malted milk impoundments
    Nine large egg yolks
    Twelve medium geosynthetic membranes
    One cup granulated sugar
An entry called 'how to kill someone with your bare hands
    Two cups rhubarb, sliced
Two slash three cups granulated rhubarb
    One tablespoon all-purpose rhubarb
    One teaspoon grated orange rhubarb
    Three tablespoons rhubarb, on fire
    One large rhubarb
One cross borehole electro-magnetic imaging rhubarb
    Two tablespoons rhubarb juice
    Adjustable aluminum head positioner
    Slaughter electric needle injector
    Cordless electric needle injector
    Injector needle driver
    Injector needle gun
    Cranial caps
And it contains proven preservatives, deep penetration agents, and gas and odor control chemicals
That will deodorize and preserve putrid tissue
    Stuff like that

I was in 8th grade in 2010, and genuinely almost killed myself, the bullies in high school are actual psychopaths, the worst thing they ever did was so bad I can't talk to people in real life about it, not even my parents know what really happened.

But then in 9th grade and onward, it was different, because those bullies were expelled permanently (we never found out why), but also, there was a girl who actually spoke to me willingly, we became good friends as time went on, and in 12th grade we were in the same class again, because she got along with everyone I was invited to one of those "jock" parties with her, it was actually pretty fun (I got laid that night), we even went to prom together.

Basically, the first year of high school sucks, unless you already have friends or an older sibling or if you aren't an easy target.

it's real. I wanted to take it, but they made me take wood shop instead and we did literally nothing. I think we turned a saw on one time, but the whole school did so poorly on a standardized test that the state was going to pull funding, so alot of elective classes were converted to emergency math classes half way into the school year.
We still failed because we were miserable, knew we had no futures, the school treated us like products, and it was just bullshit for Boards of Director's car payments.

Argie here, not literally ALL (I know I'm not), but the vast majority sure. It's pretty lame actually. People claim those islands are ours just because of geographical placement, as if that was reason enough. All the while they spout political propaganda from a dictatorship that happened back in the fricking 70's, which started that war only to give people a greater sense of patriotism even though they knew they couldn't win. They sent young people to die in a cold land and somehow that's something that brings pride to boomers instead of shame and resentment for Videla (dictator at the time). I mean yes, most people here hate Videla, but they hate him because he killed locals, not because he started a war that was lost from the beginning. And even then, they hate the brits even more. They hate regular english civilians more than they hate a dictator that killed them and sent them to die. Shits fricking dumb if you ask me.

they have to live with British cuisine so many would consider that punishment enough. Also everyone who did those wrongs are long dead or dottering old fricks dying slowly in nursing homes. Koreans and Japanese are mostly cool with each other with that logic despite what is honestly pretty recent history and have more of a business rivalry than anything. Sure the circumstances leading to that are kinda unique but I think that's a good model for citizens of nations moving forward instead of just constant seething about the past

I am also an Argie and agree with him; most of the younger generation thinks like him too. Honestly, good for the people there that got the English Nationality, It kinds of sucks here, even if not as bad as some other south hemisphere places for the time being

You got to remember that, as you said, people don't actually really know much about Argentina nor the people that live there, this is a big country, you have snowy mountains, deserts, beaches, and jungles all included within. Plenty of people got very little contact with the whole situation and most of the population now got born after the facts.

Another interesting tidbit is that the dictatorship of the time was literally gifted to us by USA; no conspiration theory there, this was a known and verificable fact, they didn't want another socialist ally on the south; Videla thought the US would back him up when he started the war, which obviously wasn't sound thinking because the US dropped that hot potato when the Brits said "No, we do want those islands" and sided with them. Most of the actual army was defending from a posible attack from chile, hence all the kids not used to the cold sent to die in what they thought wouldn't be a fight.

It's pretty sad when you look at it that way, plenty of people died and the veterans were in worst state and more hated than Nam's; up until not that long ago you would see them, missing limbs and asking for change on dirty streets, now completly forgotten in favor of propaganda from some disgusting politicians.

no, this was 100% homegrown, most of the military high command were peronists buddies who personally dined with the peron family and did the coup out of increasingly setentista paranoia.
the CIA literally made an intelligence report stating "these guys are delusional schizos who believe there's a communist conspiracy to take over the country"

Anon, there is actual literal evidence and even people on the US know right now about the whole thing.

              https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Condor

Beyond the evidence, do you believe that by coincidence all the southern countries came to be under military order at the same time and right after the Cuban issue?

Now, that's a real conspiration theory; they literally used the body of Peron's wife as table. For whatever sick populist reason both Evita Peron and Doming Peron's bodies were taxidermized and when the military took over, they would show it and use it to show what they thought of them.

I mean, you can believe whatever you want, but there is massive evidence of what I am saying, and Peron was a socialist.

amego you are literally not reading the article you posted.

Just because the CIA knew about it doesn't mean it orchestrated it. Condor was homegrown.

Wanna know real CIA interference? Read the reports on Allende's and how they financed Chilean Syndicates to pull a general strike in Chile so he'd resign. They didn't even plan or expect pinochet to take over. And they did the same thing in Brazil 10 years prior.

Most combatants are dead by now anon, but maybe you are not from Argentina or too young, because seeing a Vet missing a limb, dirty and trying to sell you tissues or some other shit.

Now all people see is the whole "Malvinas Argentinas Thing" rather than any real love for people that, in their youth, fought for a lost cause, died, eat human flesh, and came back hurt physically and mentally. The so called pension paid next to nothing.

    >Is home economy a real thing or just something you see in cartoons?
    No.

    BUT

We had this one time project on the final year of highschool that could've involved making chocolate (Or some pastry, can't remember) as one of the options to sell to family/friends/whoever and use the money to fund a trip at the end of the year, but it doubled as a project that was going to be graded, something about how to start a bussiness, if we had gone with the baking we would have to get a permit to sell that and i don't know if someone had to come to check the product didn't had a billion pubes inside

Anyway, my group was a bunch of lazy fricks (myself included) and we just end up making scarfs becouse we just thought it it was just a piece of fabric (can't remember the name of it, but it was cheap) with the logo of the school ironed in, we were wrong, we ended up making a bunch of ugly rags that we had to sell to all our known family/friends since we already took the money, probably the most embarasing moment of my life looking the the people's faces when delivering, im actually sorry for what i did

I ended up repeating the grade anyway so i guess it got what i deserved

It was a mandatory thing when I was a younggay. Mostly prepping, cooking, washing up and eating a meal. Cleaning, learning a bit about things we couldn’t do as school like laundry. Brought home a book that was about half assorted useful info and half easy recipes to get you started. Absolute trash. If you weren’t poor and therefore a moron you didn’t need it and the whole concept is viciously anti-business. Another reason MENA immigrants are a plague, poor people survival habits are anti-business and a direct attack on job creators. Fortunately it’s been eliminated. Unfortunately it’s been replaced by Islamic Studies, Performative Wokeism and Even Newer Math. The Day of the Rope is coming.

people faking being vets has made the news multiple times. mostly claiming to be active combatants (the legal qualifies for the pension).
I'm not saying it couldn't happen, but it isn't the standard normal by any metric and the state of our vets is nowhere near comparable to vietnam's vets by the simple fact we had two months of active combat and only 2000 casualties, vast mayority of both simply returned to their mom and lived a poor wagie's life lke everyone else.

I don't love my country man, nor do I idolize it, I just don't have any positive feelings for the US nor do I think it beyond logic after what happen in Cuba that it US would do something like that mid cold war.

It isn't "too crazy", it's factually wrong. I actually hate gringos but I aren't stupid enough to believe literal propaganda by morons stuck in the 70s.

        >It's literally leftist revisionism because it was more convenient to blame the countries' awful social situation on foreigners than actually fix shit.

I don't think one thing changes the other, really; is not that the US being more or less involved would do anything to the actual matter at hand. I am not blind to the shit that was going on before the military took over, and many people would tell you that for all the crap, some stuff got better, with how bad it had been; nor do
I think USA should take blame from the dictatorship actions, but again, one thing doesn't change anything of the other, and it's hardly "factually wrong" just because you think so; even taking a step back on everything, lack of evidence is not evidence of anything. I never said "they were puppets of USA" either, if that's what you took from it, and I do have family that went to war and came back like shit. One of my uncles ended up with a psychotic break and lived the rest of his life under medication, getting by due to suing the army when that was feasible.

Most stuff I have read about this subject has mention of what I said at the start; The US backed the military taking over; Videla thought USA would back him up, which is as far as went with that at the start.

I can agree to disagree with you on the rest, and stop derailing the thread further.

Also, home economics does exist in this country, just with other names and mostly in private schools. I didn't go to a private school, I just know people that did

It was called "Family and consumer education" when I was a kid, or FACE.
Essentially the same thing but with a different name to avoid connotations of stereotypes and such.

Home econ is literally the only class I actually felt like I learned anything useful in. Learned to cook which is a skill I still use daily and learned CPR that could save someone's life one day. Every single other class was stuff I already knew, knew was completely useless or stuff I'd only need to know for a career I wasn't going to have. Never got taught how to do anything else important like open a bank account or drive of course.

      We learned that in PE.

Our home ex class was just a filler class that the teacher gave you an A for simply showing up.
Didn't learn anything at all in it, and there would be weeks at a time where we would just be sitting around doing nothing while the teacher was on her phone or "taking care of something" out of class

Its a real thing in a lot of european junior high schools. Mostly its just learning how to bake bread and how to gut a fish.

I like this guy's art but he has a real problem with constantly introducing characters and setups that never seem to go anywhere before he drops them and starts on something else; I don't know if its something to do with the "Twitter artist" mindset or whatever but the guy just can't seem to commit to anything for very long

It's just artists in general. Can't tell you how many times i've seen a R34 artist who starts a lewd comic that looks like it's gonna be amazing and it never gets finished cause they decided to move onto something else. Same thing here with his concepts and ideas. Plays with them for a while, does his whole character design thing he likes so much and once that gets old, does something else.

I feel like I'd enjoy these more if the artist didn't self-insert himself as "Tough Macho Quiet Guy" every setting he does

He kinda looks like his self inserts, but of course he puts himself in a way better light than he would be in real life. He's fricking buff, but I doubt he's as confident as he likes to portray in the comics, or that he has much interaction with wymyn in general. Still, seems like a cool guy to hang around. Certainly wouldn't be afraid of anyone if I had him on my side.

HomeEc was real when I was in school.
Girls took it. Cooking, sewing, etc.
Boys took shop. Planes, band saws, lathes, wood glue.

I enjoy watching the DIY videos on Facebook and YouTube, but I don't have the equipment Norm Abrams does.
Whereas I DO need to cook and do minor clothing repairs.

In other words, HomeEc would have been much more useful.

Are we talking about education in this thread? I teach at a nonpublic school for students with disabilities. Most of our students are somewhere on the autism spectrum, but we program for all students whose "home schools" can't manage their symptoms well enough to provide services. Ask me (almost) anything.
