the entire "Japanese Golden Age" is a film school hipster meme, just like "Italian Neorealism" and "French New Wave"

            Best Macbeth adaptation to date.

Cool, I've wanted to see it for years. The clips I've seen look awesome.

no one considers sever samurai a masterpiece. youre thinking of ran, harakiri, or maybe rashamon. seven is just considered one of the best "samurai" movies. like japans version of westerns

Harakiri is so good even my 50 year old dad who doesn't watch foreign shit loves it. I tried to show him Ran afterwards, but he didn't care for that one.

It's pretty good but not even Kurosawa's best. Not even his best Samurai movie.

      >harakiri not even on the list

i dont think it actually needs to be said, but no, the bbc is not right. that is a universal sentence and can be used in regards to any topic at all

      >bicycle thieves is also still fricking amazing.
it's really good, but unlike 7s it is definitely too simple, predictable and straightforward to give me masterpiece vibes. Ozu is overrated as well.

If you can't conclude your movie in 2 hours at the absolute maximum then it's worthless garbage.

I think it's an absolutely fantastic movie and think it counts as masterpiece in the sense of how it was crafted (the village set design is phenomenal ) and for me I was gripped the entire time, but I think it lacks a bit of depth to truly be considered Kurosawa's best

I felt the ending was very poignant though.
