Yes.
The good: >really good action and special effects >family-friendly >good casting >engaging enough to overlook flaws
The great: >celebration of good values (redemption, positive masculinity, teamwork, friendship, striving for excellence, sacrificial love, reconciliation) >didn't push the current agenda (not woke and heroes are allowed to be heroic) >respected the past >refreshingly different than most modern movies
The bad: >some things didn't make sense
The ugly: >several unrealistic moments
Overall impression: >8.5/10
>celebration of good values (redemption, positive masculinity, teamwork, friendship, striving for excellence, sacrificial love, reconciliation) >>didn't push the current agenda (not woke and heroes are allowed to be heroic)

tell me you're a boomer without telling me you're a boomer
>it was clearly Iran >only country with active F-14s
Likely true but I really appreciated that they never clarified "the enemy".
Came back from the cinema and rewatched the first one - it also brushed over who "the enemy" was.

It was JUST entertainment.
It didn’t make you feel like garbage about your country, your gender, your race, political party, religion, or values.
There were good guys.
There were bad guys.
There was right and wrong.
The hero was humbled.
Confidence, even arrogance wasn’t shameful… because it was merited.
Someone could be the best or excellent at what they did without apologizing for privilege.
No one was hellbent on upending fairly healthy social norms, hierarchies, or authorities.
Someone was in charge and someone wasn’t… and that’s life.
Elders were respected and revered, homage and honor was given instead of discarding or dismissing.
Children weren’t saving the world while parents were portrayed as helpless morons.
Duty and responsibility were positives not negatives. Risk was assumed for the benefit of others.
Jack-wagonry/muttonheadedness wasn’t glorified.
It wasn’t trying to normalize deviancy.
It wasn’t PG but it wasn’t gratuitous with language, stupidity or sex.
The F-14 suggests Iran but the end looked like they were flying from the Pacific to N. Korea. Some parts of Iran have snow but there are no forested mountains like that close to the sea like in the movie. I think they made it deliberately a combination of different potential enemies.
Take your fricking meds and then have a nice day
Israel is never fricking mentioned in the movie you psycopath. Stay away from children, you sick frick.
Yeah. The flying shots are amazing.
uhh I mean.. no, they need more minorities and it's naval israelite propanganda, i want to kill youself so I do anything for attention including self harm on the internet. see i say really stupid shit over and over again until people insult me.
but anyways. yeah it's really good visually speaking and the flying is amazing.
>flying is amazing
Indeed. I understand that the actors were actually in the planes rather than in rear-projected wienerpits on wires like in the first one.
YOU NEED TO INSULT ME NOW! IT'S GLOBAL israelite PROPANGADA SPREAD BY JORGE SOROS

Yeah it's pretty amazing. The cascade river shots were neat as frick. Indians and brazilians keep talking about the Su 57 haha. Oh man they really are in another world. The Su 57 is basically "what happened if the F 35 actually was a complete piece of shit money laundering scheme" the f 35 per unit is around 65 to 70 million now.
Absolutely. I haven't seen a cinema this packed in almost a decade. Its worth it for the flying scenes alone. Don't miss the chance to see that on the big screen because it won't be the same when it goes to DVD
see it in IMAX
one of those 4D IMAX things where the seat rocks around and sprays water at you
in Ukraine so you can hear real fighter jets fly above and maybe get blown up for the full experience
I just watched the first film last night and got back from the movies just this evening. It was incredible, I loved every minute of it. I strongly suggest seeing it in theaters, just to get thanked by based Tom for coming to the theaters to see his movie.
the entire film basically serves to set up the last act/ half hour. the last half hour is fricking amazing, tense, thrilling, visually spectacular and emotionally cathartic. mad max fury road is the last film that properly impressed me and this is even better
The whole idea of the movie is about obsolescence and age. Tom is a relic in the movie and as an actor, a remnant of a dying era. Drones are replacing pilots, it’s inevitable. But he says “not today”, and tells reality and fate to go frick itself. By all narrative principles he SHOULD have died, gone out in a blaze of glory to see in the next generation. But he doesn’t. He keeps going because he doesn’t care about the limits you impose on him. That’s what makes the movie truly in the spirit of 80s action, that larger than life heroic denial of the facts because the facts don’t satisfy us. That’s why this is extremely popular and movies like TLJ and James Bond were forgettable shit. WE KNOW people have to die, the good times have to end and we arent invincible and immortal. But maverick isn’t real, he can tell reality to go frick itself and for a moment make us feel a little better about it, and while we are sat in the theatre maybe believe a little bit in the wish fulfilling soulful hyperreality we see on screen. It’s hitting the same subconscious grooves heroic epics, medieval knight tales and all the other timeless stories do. It’s just the human spirit crafting it’s own based little reality without tempering itself or being dragged down by self awareness. That’s tom cruise, that’s top gun.
It's worth seeing at a cinema purely for the premium look of all the flying scenes but it's an entertaining action movie even though it's as predictable as it gets
Took my boomer dad to see it and we had a great time. Also Tom Cruise personally thanked me for coming to see his film which was nice. Was a little weird he called me by my full legal name along with social security number though
Worth seeing for Val Kilmer. Everything else is pretty give or take.
I loved how they give an introduction with museum piece Tom Cruise talking about "real" shit used on set. What a joke. >pic related, 5th generation Pete Mitchell
It depends on your nostalgia level.
For me, I saw the original when I was a little kid with a friend and we both thought it was the coolest thing ever.
So I saw this one in imax, with the same friend, and I think it will go down as my most kino theater experience ever. How many more times in my life will I experience something like that, probably none. I think that's probably the last great movie from the last real movie star I will ever see like that.
No. Not enough minorities. Cringe plot ("muh team"). Good only if you're a boomer
That's disappointing
Are you a literal moron? You aren't going to the movie because there isn't enough minorities according to a moron anon?
>Not enough minorities
No wonder it’s making billions
Nope, its below average boomercore with a >muh ebil russia plot
Yes.

Tell us more about the era of silent movies, grandpapa.

So, for what other reason the US would bomb Iran?
>clearly Iran
What did Iran do to deserve this?
watching tom cruise's face on the big screen is enough of a reason
Yes, it is a fun movie
Yeah. The flying shots are amazing.

100% yes. IMAX if you can find one that isn't only showing Generic Park..
Absolutely. I haven't seen a cinema this packed in almost a decade. Its worth it for the flying scenes alone. Don't miss the chance to see that on the big screen because it won't be the same when it goes to DVD

Or hear it. My seat was shaking.

I just watched the first film last night and got back from the movies just this evening. It was incredible, I loved every minute of it. I strongly suggest seeing it in theaters, just to get thanked by based Tom for coming to the theaters to see his movie.
I just saw it for the second time with my parents. Held up and we may watch again in a few weeks
Yes. From all 2022 releases, only The Northman and Top Gun Maverick are (at least so far) worth watching at the theater.
What's the best time to avoid people?
The opening carrier launch/Danger Zone was loud as FRICK and it was great.
>gearing up for the mission
>orchestral rendition of danger zone playing
?t=160
the entire film basically serves to set up the last act/ half hour. the last half hour is fricking amazing, tense, thrilling, visually spectacular and emotionally cathartic. mad max fury road is the last film that properly impressed me and this is even better
It's only worth seeing in the theaters.

kino post, kino movie. Contrarians just don't get it.
Having a decent concept for your screenplay and writing a good script to back it up are two different things.
Well said friend.
based as fricking hell, how do i become like cruise/maverick?
don't think, just do
be yourself
My theater played it too loud. Ears have been sore for a week and I'm dizzy and may have hearing loss.
Liked the movie though
It's worth it. The action sequences are excellent and worth seeing on the big screen.
It's worth seeing at a cinema purely for the premium look of all the flying scenes but it's an entertaining action movie even though it's as predictable as it gets
Took my boomer dad to see it and we had a great time. Also Tom Cruise personally thanked me for coming to see his film which was nice. Was a little weird he called me by my full legal name along with social security number though
that's pretty damn rude of Tom to leak your social to the whole theater
just came back from the theatre
it's literal kino
Yes. Just got back from it. Super kino. It really does remind you of what a good movie is
I liked it yeah. It was fun which is pretty rare these days, even with dumb superhero stuff
How the frick did he survive ejecting in Mach 10?
Thetans protected him.
It's worth seeing multiple times in the cinema
Worth seeing for Val Kilmer. Everything else is pretty give or take.
I loved how they give an introduction with museum piece Tom Cruise talking about "real" shit used on set. What a joke.

I got covid from going go the theater but it was worth the 3 month hospital stay
not if you are a flaming homosexual

So the story is cliche paint by numbers woke lite shit. But the ending is kino and well worth seeing in theaters.
watched it today. it's really worth it, a proper blockbuster to give us a rest from the soulless disney garbage
